Can I set up a new iPhone using an old iPod backup?
The support articles cover backing up and then restoring from backup but only on like devices. I just got my first iPhone and I need to set it up with my old iPod data. iTunes didn't cue me when I plugged it in and just set up the phone as a new phone. I just want to make sure I don't render the phone useless or something if I restore it from iPod data. If I have to re-enter everything manually I might cry.
I'm going to answer my own question in case someone else needs it.
I synced my iPod. Then, I wiped my iPhone and restored it to factory settings. Since I've only had it 36 hours, there wasn't much to lose. When it came back up, iTunes asked me which backup to use (which it didn't the first time, I still don't know why). I selected the one for the iPod. Everything seems to work. It installed everything, apps, as well as app data, but left everything unique to the phone alone. My biggest fear was bricking the phone if I installed iPod data over it, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I still have a new, functional phone but now it has the treasure trove of data that's been in my critical device for the past four years.

How can I back up my new iPhone using the old back up from iPhone 4
How can I restore my iPhone 4 backup to my iphone5 as I have start my iPhone 5 as a new device . I wish to restore from my iPhone 4 backup as there is a lot of photo inside .
Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and install any updates available.
Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from. -
can i set up my new iphone 5s using my ipad (because my work laptop wont allow me to installl itunes).?
No, but you do not need iTunes to setup a new iPhone 5s. Create an iCloud backup for anything you want to transfer to the new iPhone.

I'm trying to set up my new iPhone using iCloud - I entered my apple ID and password and selected the backup to restore from but the next page asks me to enter a password for a DIFFERENT apple ID
What different Apple ID? Yours? Your friends? Your dogs... ? I think we are going to need more information. You're probably best setting up the phone as a new phone and restoring from iCloud later on.

Can i set up a new iphone 5 on my mac running version 5.0.6 and transfer my data to the new phone from my iphone 3
No, you need 10.6.8 for an iPhone 5.
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
Snow Leopard General requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply. -

I just got an iphone 6. Not all of my music was on itunes, so I logged in and instead of clicking set up as new iphone I hit restore from backup, thinking it only pertained to the music in itunes. Now my new iphone looks just like my old iphone and has iphone 5 settings. How can I undo and get back to iphone 6 settings?

i recently bought a new iphone 5 and gave the old iphone 4 to my mum. every time i take picstures they automatically store on the iphone 4, how can i set up a new icloud for my mum on the iphone 4 but keep everything on my iphone 5?
Your iphone 4 must still be logged into your icloud account. Go to settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of page and tap Delete Account. This will remove all your data from the old device but not from icloud or your iphone 5.
To create a new icloud account for your mum, go to

Back in March my PC crashed while updating my Iphone 3Gs. Both froze and were rendered unusable. The Iphone had to be restored to factory settings in order to be used. The PC required more work and was delayed by warranty issues. In the meantime I bought a laptop and installed the newest version of Itunes. Itunes recognizes my phone but only comes up as "Set up your Iphone" with two subsequent options: set up as new iphone or restore from back up. I have mistakenly chosen the option to restore it back to July 2, 2011 when I last synced. No big deal, but it will not let me go beyond that screen and I cannot transfer my recovered apps or anything else. Any help on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How can I set up a new iPhone from a backup that is too large
I have just received an upgrade to an iPhone5. The problem is that my old 4s was a 32GB and my 5 is a 16GB. Is there a way to set up my new 16GB phone from a 32GB backup?
The iPhone's backup is not a full mirror backup.
The backup does not include any iTunes content - no music, tones, podcasts, movies, tv shows, audio & print books, and 3rd party apps. The backup does not include any photos that were transferred from your computer. -
How can i set up my new iPhone again?
i just got a new iphone 4s and i didnt click the right button to restore as backup to my previous phone, so nothing transferred. what can i do? i accidentally set it up like i have never had an iphone....
Hi gys,
jlindh123 is right. Or, if you haven't got any valuable data in your new iphone yet, you can go to Settings > General > Reset and then choose "Erase All Content and Settings". This will delete all data currently stored in the phone, restart, and then you'll perform iPhone activation from all over again, like it's new.

HT1688 How can I set up my new iPhone to sync with my iPad
I recently lost my iPhone so I went through insurance to get a new one. I know my iPhone wasn't backed up to iCloud in a while but my iPad is still up to date. How can I get my new iPhone to be the same as my iPad?
iDevices do not sync with one another, never have.
All content should be in iTunes on the computer, connect the new iPhone to the computer and either restore it from the most recent backup of the old iPhone or set up as new and sync the desired content to the device. -
i need to know what i should hit on itunes for my phone, it says set up as new phone or restore with backup, i dont want to lose what i have on my phone right now, i just want to put the music i have on itunes on my phone.... what should i do?!?!
OK, we don't have the whole story, but it is likely that you previously synced the phone to a different computer. The iPhone can only be synced to one computer at a time; if you change computers the contents of the new computer will replace the contents of the old computer.
If you restore with backup (assuming the computer you are using has a current backup) you will not lose any app content. If you restore as new you can then add music and apps, but you will lose everything else in your backup.
