Can I set up a wireless printer as a network printer and not use Airport?

I have a HP Photosmart Plus wireless printer set up in my network for use by several iPods, iPads, and iPhones.   I have an iMac running 10.6.8 that I want to set it up on, but to use it as a regular network printer, not using Airport.  Is this possible?  I haven't been able to hit on the right combination of settings.  I have a Samsung laser printer that works this way, and an Epson that is attached to an Airport Express, but all I get on the HP is garbage.  It will work when I set it up using the HP install disk, but I have to use Airport and I don't always get a good signal where the iMac is located.  I would prefer to use  the wired connection to my router and access the HP's IP address, like a wired network printer.     Any suggestions?

I'm using a Canon printer here which is networked via my Airport Express.  My printer cannot be Wi fi enabled simultaneousely with an ethernet cable connection. It is either or.  I realise that this doesn't fully answer your question, but I just wanted to give you a clue.  You'd need to consult your owners manual, or HP to get a definitive answer.
If you want to use the HP printer printer only with the wired ethernet connection to your router, that should be no problem as long as it is ethernet capable.
After setting it up for wired ethernet capability, you will need through the sequence of powering your router down, and resetting you Lan network so the router and printer can pick up their respective IP assignments.

Photoshop has to have full administrator rights to have read/write access.
This means you need to run Photoshop CS5.1 in an Administrator account and set it up to "Run as Administrator."
    1. Close Photoshop if it's open.
    2. Right click on your Photoshop CS5.1 launch icon then select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu. (You will have to enter Admin Password if UAC is enabled to change this setting.)
    3. Launch Photoshop CS5.
    4. See if you create and save a document.
Even if you are in an Administrator account you have to do this as Vista's Admin account isn't really the Super Admin as it is in XP so you have to elevate the rights by selecting "Run as Administrator". This setting is sticky so you should only have to do this once. I am not sure why CS3 is suddenly acting as if it does't have Admin rights unless you are running it in a new account that isn't an administrator or maybe uninstalled (cleanScript?) then reinstalled.
If can't create or save a document, check that the account that Photoshop is in is an Administrator account.
To check if you are in an Administrator account...
    1. Type user account in your Vista or Windows7 start search bar. (Start search bar is at the bottom of the panel that opens when you click the start Windows start globe located on the far left hand side of your Windows task bar.)
    2.  Click on "User Accounts" which should show up at the top of the list. This will open the dialog to User Accounts where you can "Change Your Account Type". If UAC (User Account Control) is turned on, you will need to enter the Admin password to change this setting.

  • Why can I only getFacebook in miniscule print and not in full size any more?

One day I went to use Facebook and found it was in minuscule unreadable print - and I can find no way of enlarging it.
ALSO my Hotmail address and password were the entry to Facebook, but I no longer have this address as I deleted it because it started to bring in porn.
All my photos are lodged on Facebook. Is there any way I can get into my page again AND have it in normal size? Thank you. PJR

Have you tried the 'NoSquint' extension? It will allow you to resize just the text, or resize everything.
Also, check your 'DPI' setting in 'about:config'
(search for the value:''' layout.css.dpi''' ).
Note, if you can't find the value, that means it is using the 'default' value (I don't know what that is!). I find it best to set it, since it doesn't seem to reliably use the OS's value.
Check your windows setting (what version of windws are you using, or are you using windows?) This is usually more of a problem on higher resolution screens, but the default of '96DPI', really only works well on screens that are really '96DPI'.
If you don't know your monitor's "DPI", find it's 'resolution' on the Display Properties page (control panel -> Display).
On Win7, it should be right there.
On WinXP, it's under 'Settings -> Advanced'.
To figure out what your monitor's DPI (Dots Per Inch):
    1) look at your monitors resolution on the 'Display' page from the control panel. You should see a value like:
    1024 x 768
    1600 x 1200
    1920 x 1080
    1920 x 1200
    2560 x 1600
    ... etc.
(those are just a few examples of values. Yours may be different).
The first number is your horizontal & 2nd = vertical.
    2) Get a tape measure or ruler and measure the width of your screen's *display* area (not the outside edge, but from the displayed image's edges).
You can also measure the height if that is easier.
Now take the corresponding number you found in #1.
Example, say your screen is 1600x1200.
If you measured the width use the 1st number (1600) and if you measured the height, use the 2nd number (1200).
Now divide the corresponding number from #1 (lets say you measured the width), so '1600' and divide it by the actual width that you measured.
So if you measured 16 inches across, you'd get:
    1600/16 -> 100 dots/inch, or if you measured 16 and ~2/3 inches, you'd get:
    1600/16.7 -> (approx) 96 DPI.
Once you know that you can set the value in windows (if it isn't already set right), but most importantly -- set the value in Firefox on the about:config page in the value:
(you may need to create it).
    layout.css.dpi
If you need to create the value (if it isn't already there),
right click in the area where all the values are -- and select 'New', then select 'Integer'.
    For the name, type in:
    layout.css.dpi
    & hit enter.
For the value, enter the DPI you want.
NOTE: if you have the DPI set correctly and everything still seems too small, you can 'lie' to this setting and it will magnify everything.
If you set it to a *higher* value than what you really have, it will magnify things.
So let's say your real value is 100 DPI.
If you set the layout.css.dpi value to 125, you will make all the text 25% bigger.
If your real value is 96DPI, then a value of 120 will make things 25% bigger (120/96 = 1.25).
    Hope this helps...

  • Can i set my pc to print on my printer wirelessly?

I have an HP Photosmart C3180 printer hooked to my iMac.  If I am using a Windows laptop and connect to the iCloud through the internet, can I set it up to print on my iMac's printer?

If your printer is airprint enabled, it'll print natively.
    iOS: Using AirPrint
explains it and has a link to a list of supported printers
If your printer isn't on that list, you still have options.  Your printer's manufacturer may have an app or accommodate things like google docs or the such. You'd need to research this on  your manufacturer's site.
Or there are third party printing apps. I've used print n share, but there are several others out there. You'd just need to research and find one that looks good to you.

  • How to set up standalone wireless print server

I need step-by-step instructions on to set up a KonicaMinolta bizhub multifunction printer to print wirelessly from various Macs. In other words, it would not be hooked up to the internet or my wireless network. I understand this can be done with an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme. I tried it with a Linksys WPSM54G wireless print server without success. I'd like to try the AirPort Express, but so far haven't been able to get it to work.
How do I configure my AExp to operate as a print server? How should I have it connected when I do the configuration?
How do I find the print server's IP address?
When I plug in the AExp and connect it to the printer via USB, the AExp flashes amber and never turns green (and therefore never connects with the MacBook).
If I successfully set up the print server as a separate network, can I be connected to the printer and my wireless network at the same time? Or do I need to switch back and forth?
If I'm accessing the internet via Ethernet, can I simultaneously access the printer via AirPort?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How do I configure my AExp to operate as a print server?
The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) or AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) can only operate as a "print" server if the printer is attached to its USB port. Ethernet printers would require their own print server service if connected by Ethernet to either router.
How should I have it connected when I do the configuration?
Neither router would need a WAN port connection as both can provide a stand-alone wireless network. For a USB printer, it would need to be connected to the respective router's USB port.
How do I find the print server's IP address?
This would be the AirPort's LAN IP address. The default is: 10.0.1.1
When I plug in the AExp and connect it to the printer via USB, the AExp flashes amber and never turns green (and therefore never connects with the MacBook).
The flashing amber indicates that the AX has configuration issue. If you temporarily connect your MacBook directly to the AX's Ethernet port, and then, run the AirPort Utility, you can find out what the issue(s) is(are).
If I successfully set up the print server as a separate network, can I be connected to the printer and my wireless network at the same time? Or do I need to switch back and forth?
No, you would have to switch wireless networks. One way around this, is to have the AX configured to "Join a wireless network." This mode was specifically designed to allow the AX to perform as a wireless client and simultaneously provide both print sharing and iTunes streaming to network clients.
If I'm accessing the internet via Ethernet, can I simultaneously access the printer via AirPort?
Potentially, but your computer and the printer will be on separate broadcast domains/subnets.

i have c 6180 wireless printer and an apple ipad2, can the printer print from the ipad? how can i set it up?

Not with the built-in AirPrint print function.  However, you can download free and cheap print apps that can provide some (limited) printing abilities.  HP's iPrint is one of those.

  • My HP office jet 6500 printer is stuck on pause. I do not have an admin name or password as it is a wireless printer and I never had to set one up.  It keeps asking me for admin name and password...

My HP office jet 6500 printer is stuck on pause.  I do not have an admin name or password that it keeps prompting me to give, as it is a wireless printer and that info was not required when we set up the printer.  I have checked all diagnostics and connections and they are all good/passed.  I am so frustrated!!!    This has never happened in the past.

What is asking you for an admin name and password? What does the dialog say, exactly?
What model iMac are you using, and which OS version?
If it is earlier than Lion or Snow Leopard, try deleting the printer and adding it again as explained in this document

Otherwise you can "reset the printing system" as explained here

  • HP 6300 all in one can't set up for wireless use

can't set up for wireless use

That is because the printer does not support wireless connectivity to a router.  You can with an optional Bluetooth adapter to one computer wireless.  However since this has an Ethernet connection you can connect it to your router via this or you can use the below information to convert your Ethernet wired printer to wireless.
Connect wireless printer anywhere, convert from wired, bypass failed radio, add WPA2 security.

  • How do I set up wireless printer w/o use of CD?

    Hello,
I spent a couple of hours trying to enable wireless connection to Brother MFC-J825DW printer. I was able to add a printer using USB cable, but how do I go about setting up the wireless printer setting without use of supplied CD? Laptop has OS 10.7.
Thanks in advance for your help.

From the Brother web page noted above:
My PC does not have a CD-ROM drive. How can I install the supplied software without a CD-ROM drive?
    Description:
The latest version of drivers, software* and manuals are available on the Brother Solutions Center.
    (*except for some software)
To download the drivers and software go to the Downloads section.
To download the manuals go to the Manuals section.
And for step-by-step network installation, see http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/faq/faq/000000/002700/0 00094/faq002794_005.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfcj825dw_all&Cat=108

Can someone please walk me through setting up the wireless print on the Samsung S5? I have already set up my wifi to find the HP printer however, I can not seem to get anything to print whatsoever. Ready to throw this printer out the window.,

    Hi @
    Thedeb1
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you would like to learn how to print from your Samsung S5 to your HP printer.
To better assist you, would you please supply some additional information:
What model and product number of HP printer do you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
How is the printer connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)? I’m just looking for confirmation that the printer is connected to your home wireless network still.
Was the phone connected to the same wireless network that the printer is connected to?
What version of operating system are you using on your phone? If you are unsure how to find this information, please follow the steps in wikiHow’s How to Figure out Your Mobile Operating System
Are you getting any error messages? If yes, what do they say?

  • Setting up a wireless printer for iPad

I am trying to purchase a printer to print documents/email/ect. from my ipad using an app. I DO NOT own a computer at home, so I would need to set up the wireless printer on my network without needing a computer to do so. Is anyone aware of any printers that will allow this?
If not, are there any other ways to allow for printing form the iPad without using a computer as well (for example, a adapter or special cord)?
    Any info will be appreciated!

You can simply print from your ipad wirelessly without any kind of cables or Internet connections.
All you need is a simple router like “Tenda W150M Portable Wireless AP/Router (Microcenter: $34.99)” is a small device that can be powered right off of most printers USB ports. Then obviously connect any Wi-Fi ready printer and IPad to this “Tenda” router. No Internet service needed, you are using this for network connectivity purposes only. You now can be anywhere for ex: like in a car and be able to print from your IPad or iphone wirelessly, without any other needed connections.

I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

  • How can I use a wireless printer and the internet at the same time?

Hi there, I just installed a wireless printer but to use it I have to click on the Airport icon and select the printer in the 'devices' list. This deselects my connection to my wireless modem. Is there any way I can print and look at the internet at the same time? This does not seem right to me, I print a lot of info from the net and don't want to spend time selecting and waiting for connection back and forth all the time.

I have a Linksys WAG54G2 wireless G router. This router has a Wireless Protected Setup button which I understood would initiate a search for wireless devices and aid setup but it seems to do nothing. I made the mistake of tryig to use the linksys installation disk to access a setup wizard and that just reset my entire network back to factory settings and it took me 4 hours to reconfig my system. Won't be touching that again. It all seems odd, the printer is compatible with the router as far as I can see but I don't know how to get the router to recognise the printer.
