Can i set up diff iTunes libraries for diff users on Mac

My husband's Mac is now becoming the family computer.  He already has an extensive iTunes library.  I want to set up my own iTunes library, separate from his.  Is this possible?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the speedy response.  Do you mean setting up a user account on the Mac itself? or an account within iTunes itself.  Currently we don't have separate user accounts set up on this Mac....

  • Can i set up an itunes account for my friend living in another country?

I would like to set up an itunes account for my friend living aboard and I'm happy to use my own credit card details to buy the music and use my own email address. Is this possible? It's for a birthday present so I wanted to just send her the login details to the account and hey-presto she has lots of cool new music. I've looked up itunes cloud / match etc but have no idea if this is possible to do. Please help and thanks in advance

FYI, you've posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question really isn't related to.
But, the answer to your question is no. To set up an account in a regional iTunes Store the person must have a credit card drawn on a local bank and an address in the local country to create the account. The Terms of Service of the stores also prevent someone from living in one country and using another store.

  • HT204266 Can I set up different iTunes accounts for family members?

I currently have an iPhone 4 and will be upgrading to an iPhone 5. My wife and daughters also will be getting iPhones and I was wondering how to set up seperate iTunes accounts for them and also how to prevent them form syncing their phones with the address book on our Mac. Thanks.

How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
Separate user accounts on your Mac would be the best idea IMO.

  • WinXP with two users - can we have two separate iTunes, one for each user?

Question:  On my Dell WinXPPro SP3 desktop with two users (myself and my wife), can each user have a separate iTunes - so what each of us does with iTunes has no effect on the other?
Details:  Yesterday, June 29 2012, I bought a new iPad 3 with WiFi only, my first Apple product.  My #1 motive for buying it is to copy movie files (avi, m4v, mp4, etc.) from my WinXP setup (PC plus hard drive) to my new iPad to watch the movies in bed on the new iPad. I understand that I shall need to install iTunes on both the iPad and the PC in order to move or copy the existing movies from the PC side to the iPad.  (I also understand that I won't be able to use iCloud because iCloud will not run on WinXP, only Vista and Win7.)  [By the way, if iTunes will NOT help me do what I want to do, please let me know.  But that is not my question.]
I am only one of two users on the PC.  My wife is the second user on the PC.  She already installed iTunes on the PC for her own use.  She is an avid iTunes user.   Most of the time, she does not use this PC.  She has her own WinXPPro SP3 Dell laptop, which is what she uses 99% of the time.  She has also had an iPod for some time, hence her use of iTunes.  And now, for the last two weeks, she also has a new iPhone 4S and her own iPad.  So her use of iTunes will grow.  The important point is the following - whatever I do on my side, I do not want to interfere with or disrupt her use of iTunes.  Not even for a second.
So, can I install or re-install or somehow set up iTunes on MY user on the PC so that it does not in any way use or affect her iTunes?  If the answer is "yes", please give me a step-by-step and list all details.  Is there a YouTube that shows this specifically?
More details:  Right now, in C:\Program Files, before I have tried to install anything myself, there are already folders for Apple Software Update, iPod and iTunes, which derive from my wife's installations of these Apple programs some time ago.  I have just now run the Apple Software Updater, which first updated itself on this PC to version 2.1.3.127 and then updated her iTunes on this PC to version 10.6.3.25.  (As a result, the following processes/services are now running, which normally don't run when I am the user:
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
      C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe
      C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe
Also, the following processes will launch the next time I reboot this PC (which normally don't launch when I am the user):
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\APSDaemon.exe
      C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe )
My wife says her iTunes is NOT set for Family Share.  (That sounds correct to me, for now and forever.)
Summary:  So, how do I install iTunes for myself (for the first time) for my user on this PC so it does not - even for a second - interfere or affect my wife's use of her iTunes on all of her devices?
    Thanks !!!

Mr. Wiclee - thanks for the link.
When I said I had not "installed" iTunes on my iPad, I suppose I meant I have not yet signed in to iTunes, ever.  I suppose when I sign in to iTunes the first time on my new iPad, I will be required to create a new iTunes account?  Then refer to such new iTunes account when I launch iTunes for the first time on my PC as myself?  Or will I still need to use Method Three in your link?
The crucial thing is this - when I turn on iTunes on the PC for the first time with me as User, I do NOT want it to connect to my wife's iTunes account.  On my PC, I would want iTunes to ask me who I am, so I can then sign in with my new iTunes account that I had just created on my iPad.  How can I be sure to accomplish this goal?
In my PC, if I look at Documents and Settings and compare the two folders for we two different users, one for me and one for my wife, I can see that my wife's has Application Data and Local Settings for her various Apple programs.  However, so do I in my User even though I have not yet installed any Apple programs on my side.  I am concerned that when I finall launch iTunes when I am user, it will open up in my wife's iTunes account, which I truly want to avoid.
    Thanks.  Please advise.

  • Can I set a default Playback preference for multiple users on same PC?

I am setting up an editing suite for our University which has a "per machine" Creative Cloud licence. It is a PC installation. This machine will be used by a class of students who will log in with their own credentials. I need to set the preferences for Premiere (video output, workspace layout, default drives etc) so that it will be the same for all users logging in since we want a consistent setup for teaching purposes and dont want to have to help each student set up so that it shows correctly on the monitors. Is there a way of saving this setting as the default for every user?  In particular, as we have dual monitors, we want to save the preferences - Playback to always appear on the second monitor. This is really important for us - I need an answer before building more suites.
(Adobe won't let me ask them directly, so I have to wait for someone to provide an anwser on the forums... not great customer support in my book)

Firstly...is  this editing suite for the purpose of teaching editing or something else?
Next ...what is your experience with PPRo?
You can set up the machine(s) initially exactly how you want them  in regards to hardware and screen layouts etc.  Thats easy and can be called..'University of Waikato Default Edit Workspace' for example. That is  only part of it though.
You can set up and share a common Key Board Short cut Preference File.  Same as Export Presets.
There is no way you can "Default" all the USERS stuff for individual unique projects  though without creating a massive potential for disaster and confusion.
Each will need to have access to many separate drive locations for their media (audio, graphics, footage) and the knowledge to create, access and locate it.
THey will each need a separate Location for their Projects as well as their media.
If they are editing students...they should be taught how to set up everything for themselves so they have an understanding of the fundamentals and basic s of NLEs

  • How can I set up an iTunes account for my kids - or share mine?

Both my kids got iPod Touches for Christmas. While I can import and sync music to them, they want to be able to download game apps and album art and they need iTunes accounts to do it. But they don't meet the age requirement to have an account. Can I link them to my account somehow? Like with a different username or password or something? They have their own user accounts on our iMac. Thanks for all suggestions!

I have the exact same problem, they can't access because of their ages

  • Can you set up an itunes acount for 3 iphones that wont share all contacts and info between them

im having trouble understanding itunes adding songs is a pain and when we conect another phone it erases and gives you what the last person had and ther contacts

    On a Windows machine:-
Hold the shift button down when you double click to open iTunes, it will ask if you want to create a new library, do so for each device you want to sync.
Hold the shift button down each time you launch iTunes and choose the library you wish to load.
I am sure someone will come along and fill you in on how to do the same thing on Mac. For the life of me I can not remember

  • Sharing two iTunes Libraries for different user accounts on one Mac

How can I upload or share my wife's iTunes library? She is listed as a different end user on the same Mac as I use but we have different libraries. If I sync my iphone to her account, will it erase my existing applications and downloaded songs? Also, she only uses the iTouch. And yes, I have a mobile me account if that matters. Hi Arti!
You can default user settings in a PFCG role, in the "personalization" tab.
If you have a PFCG role that is common to all your users, you can set the default values here.
However it does not prevent them to change these settings later, except if you modify the "user settings" fields properties in cProjects application.

Quote: "You cannot merge two or more Apple IDs into a single one. You can, however, use one Apple ID for iCloud services and another Apple ID for store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match). See “Using one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store Purchases” above for details." See also Apple ID & iCloud FAQ: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
You can set up your iCloud account on your iOS device under: "Settings > iCloud" and a other account for store purchases under "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Unfortunately merging accounts is not possible but you could transfer all of your music manually via iTunes from your Mac or PC.

  • My wife decided to set up her iPhone on my account and now everything is comingled.  I want to set up an iTunes account for just me. Do I have to set that up on a computer or can I set it up on the iPhone?

My wife decided to set up her iPhone on my account and now everything is comingled.  I want to set up an iTunes account for just me. Do I have to set that up on a computer or can I set it up on the iPhone?

iTunes will need to be set up on your computer however you can set up a new Apple ID to use for your iPhone. Really all you need to do is Assign a new Apple ID to your iCloud account.
Follow the link to create a new Apple ID: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
After you do that, on the device you want to assign a new iCloud account go: Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and then sign in with the new Apple ID.
NOTE: This does not effect iTunes, all of your devices can continue to use one shared iTunes account under your original Apple ID for downloading apps and backups. This simply gives iCloud a place to sync the individual devices information and will stop iCloud form merging all the information, such as contacts, with all of your devices.

  • I have multiple apple phones on one account  can i create a new iTunes account for other iphone

I have multiple iphones on one billing account as well as itunes.  Can I create a separate itunes account for other iphone?

You don't need to create two separate libraries.
If you want to sync different content onto each device, select the device in iTunes, select the tabs across the top and sync what you want.
To make it easier, create different playlists for each device and sync only those playlists.

  • Can I use the same iTunes account for 2 iPads without having the same apps on both?

Can I use the same iTunes account for 2 iPads without having the same apps on both? Everytime I try to sync my new iPad, it syncs all the apps that are on my account. If I can do this, can someone tell me how please???

Yes you can, easily.  When you plug the first pad in to sync, note the name of the pad on the last pane.  Set up for that device whatever you want to sync.  When you are done, plug the second pad in.  Make sure it has a different name on the left pane.   Then sync to that pad whatever you want.  I tunes will remember what you did on each pad, and will start from there the next time you plug in.
