Can I set up Entourage-like reply formatting in Mail.app?

Hi all,
I just switched to Mac Mail.app (and iCal, etc.) from Entourage. In Entourage, I liked using the "Reply & Forward: Mail Attribution" preference that states:
"Place reply at the top of message and include From, Date, To, and Subject lines from original message".
I greatly prefer this formatting to the "on [Date], [Name] <Address> wrote:" style that seems to be the only option in Mail.app (10.5.1)
i.e. I prefer the messages in my e-mail thread to be separated by headers that look like this:
From: [email protected]
Subject: It's Easy to Manage Your Referrals
Date: December 29, 2005 7:38:41 AM PST
To: [email protected]
not like this:

Does anyone know if I can use the Entourage style formatting when replying to mail with Mail.app, and, if so, how to set it up?
Many thanks,

Not sure how much use this will be or if it's different in Leopard, it might help get you on the right path.

  • Can I set up an email account in Mac mail if it already exists in mac for outlook?

Can I set up an email account in mac mail if it already exists in mac outlook or do I need to delete the outlook account first? I have tried to set it up and its not working.

Mail and Outlook are two different applications, so you can maintain the same account in both, incl sending and receiving.
What matters is that the setup is correct. E.g., is it a POP3 or IMAP account? By default, IMAP stores all mails on the (ISP's) server, while POP3 usually deletes it there after it's been received. So, with IMAP you'd easily have your mails everywhere, in every client, while with POP3 it's only in the client which you used most recently, so to speak.

Yes, you can. Is "Mac OS X (10.7)"  still your current system?
You can create groups from the File menu in the "Address Book /Contacts" application.

  • Can I set up a Non .mac Email Pop mail client Alias for sending SMTP mail?

I have a yahoo.com POP mail account - [email protected] When I'm lgged into Yahoo mail, this account can receive and send mail from serveral aliases - [email protected], [email protected], etc.
Using Tiger's mail.app, I can log into the Yahoo smtp server and get all my mail, including mail to the alias names.
I would like to be able to reply from my Mac's mail.app account, using one of the aliases, instead of my POP account name. In other words, I'd like the From field be listed as "[email protected]" and not "[email protected]"
In mail.app (v2.1) is there any way to do this?
Alan Sampson' suggestion doesn't work - when I set the From field to the alias name, it looks like mail tries to login to the yahoo SMTP server under the alias, and it gets rejected.
    ( - see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2603372&#2603372 )
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the primary email account preferences, enter all alias email addresses in the Email Address field for the account separate by a comma.

If Yahoo allows this, it should work. Open Mail Help, type alias in the search box, and read the article titled Adding multiple email alias addresses to an account. Could it be that you're trying to put the aliases in the wrong field (i.e. User Name rather than Email Address)? Or maybe it's Yahoo's SMTP server that doesn't allow you to do this?

    Hi Jaime,
Are you saying, you are getting junk characters in the email attachment? Then pls check the following. Since you want to send Japanese fonts, please pass language 'J' in both  objpack-obj_langu = '3' & doc_chng-obj_langu  = '3' instead of '3' please replace it with 'J'.
Another thing which you may have to check is the SCOT device type. As I understand from my basis colleague, this may also affect your attachment fonts since the emails are sent through SCOT. Go to transaction SCOT-> Settings-> Device types for format conversion. Check whether wrong device type is defined for Japanese there. Hope this helps

  • How can i set up two different users on Ipad mail

I would like to set up two separate email accounts on the new Ipad Air.  Two people will be using the Ipad for their internet connections.  They have no other computer.  I have one Yahoo! mail account completed and have the Yahoo mail app installed but this app is awful for a beginner to use.  I would like to have both access their mail under the mail icon on home page.

You can configure as many email accounts as you want on the native Mail App however, you cannot separate them or log out of them so one user will be able to see mail from the other user's account.
I would suggest you look for a 3rd Party Mail account that can do this for you, as the Native one is simply not designed for multiple users.
Alternatively you could simply put a link to Yahoo's webmail page on the Home Screen and have them log in to that when they need to.

  • Can i set up two emails accounts on the mail function tab and switch between them

I would like to be able to set up two email accounts on the mail tab on the Iphone 5 and switch between them, is this possible?

Yes it is possible to set up multiple accounts but you cannot switch between them in the mail app.  What you can do in settings/mail etc is have one set as active an dthe other as inactive and you can change that from time to time if you want

  • How can I set up another email client to send mail as my dotmac account?

My business uses an online application that can send emails to our customers as long as we provide it with an email account. I used the following from my mail.app:
    SMTP HOST: smtp.mac.com
    SMTP PORT: 25
    SMTP_AUTH: true
SMTP USER: cryogen (my dotmac account and email)
SMTP PSWD: ****** (my dotmac password)
But, I cannot seem to get this to work. I tried it with another account I have with COMCAST.NET and I was able to successfully send emails using that account.
Is there something special about a dotmac account that I am missing?
    Thanks.
    PowerMac G4 MDD   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The information you’ve provided now is what I was asking for. Unfortunately, it’s still insufficient. It’s critical to know here whether the SMTP server does actually accept or reject the request of the mail client to send the message. Any conventional mail client would allow you to know that. In Mail, for example, you know that the message has been sent because Mail puts it in the Sent mailbox (whether the message arrives at the destination is an entirely different issue). And if the SMTP server rejects the message for some reason, Mail will report what the reason is.
Whether I’ve actually set up a different mail client to send with a .Mac account is irrelevant -- I don’t even have a .Mac account, for that matter, nor do I need one. Gee, if I needed to have the same accounts as the people I help, I couldn’t be here. Fortunately, I just need to know how email works and what the idiosyncrasies of some email services are, if any.
Try setting up your .Mac account using a conventional alternative mail client, such as Thunderbird, and you’ll see that you can do that with no problems -- or, if you have problems, it should be pretty clear what they are exactly and how to fix them.

  • Can iPhone Mail redirect mail to subfolders like the Apple desktop Mail app

In my Mail app on my computer, I have Rules set up so that certain emails from various people get moved to a few different subfolders I have set up. However, in my iPhone, they all come to my primary email address. Is there any way to make iPhone mail behave and redirect certain emails to subfolders? I belong to a few beta test groups and the amount of email is staggering, so I've rather have these emails redirected. Any advice? Thanks.

No - the iPhone does not include a rules feature to sort recieved messages by category, and you can't create mailboxes with the iPhone's Mail client. The iPhone's Mail client is a compliment to the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, not a replacement for.
With an IMAP account along with storing all user created mailboxes on the server for sorting recieved messages by category, all server stored mailboxes will be available with the iPhone's Mail client and kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. If you keep the Mail.app on your Mac launched and running, any sorting of received messages to user created server stored mailboxes based on rules with the Mail.app on your Mac will be reflected automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client. This is not possible with a POP account.
