Can I set-up mail to retrieve mail ?

Can I set up my mac mail to retrieve mail from my Yahoo mail account then delete the maill from yahoo mail but keep the mail on my PC?  I us to be able to do this with Outlook mail but I am now using the apple mail that came with my PC.

That would mean that you have the Yahoo maill account configured as an IMAP or Exchange account. What you describe is how IMAP/Exchange works and can't be changed.

  • How can I set up various mailboxes in Mail on my iPad.

How can I set up various mailboxes in Mail on my iPad.
I am using a Pop account and don't want to change this setup.
I use two devices to access the same email account but I am not experiencing any lockout issues.
Mail is simply not giving me any options to create mailboxes and there must be a way of doing this.  If I can do it in my iMac, surely I can do the same thing on my iPad.

    -Tap "Settings" app,
-Select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" option on the left hand side,
-On the right, under "Accounts" on top, tap "Add Account...",
-Select one of the email service providers or "Other",
-Under "Mail", tap "Add Mail Account",
-A window pops up and enter your new email account details.
    -Repeat for new email accounts.

  • Can I use Time Machine to retrieve mail that was in Trash on my MacBook Air, after I emptied Trash?

Can I use Time Machine to retrieve mail that was in Trash on my MacBook Air OS X Yosemite, after I Emptied that Trash?

Interesting question. I don't think you can because Time Machine would have deleted the data in subsequent backups because it was removed from the computer. But you never know about these things until you actually try it, which I've never done. So, why don't you give it a try. Worst that can happen is it's not there and you're no worse off than now.
If you need help with restoring mail from Time Machine: Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine. Also open Mail and select Mail Help from Mail's help menu. Search for 'restore mail' and see if you don't find some instructions there, too.

  • How can I set up hotmail in the mail application

    Hi
How can I set the mail application to include hotmail? I've been able to add it, but it doesn't sync read and unread messages. I know iPhones used to have the same problem, but after iOS5, there was an option to include mail from hotmail. Is there an option to include hotmail now in Mail, as I can't find it.
Also, as I've just switched from Windows to Mac, is there a button on Mac for home and end like Windows has?
    Thanks

Unfortunately hotmail requires you to pay a fee to have your e-mail go through a mail application, like Apple Mail. Contact their customer service to see about fees, as well as set up process.

  • Can I set up just inner office mail

Fairly new at server settings. but I set up what I under stood and I went into mail and set it to the same settings but when I try to use it the smtp settings for our other email for everything else keep giving me an error.
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thanks, Mark, that's a lot clearer.
    Firstly, a Side-issue... a comment on your domain choice - ok1.local...
The following is only really an issue if you wanted to set up your DNS server to host your domain (ok1.local) and therefore enable Mail clients to be configured with smtp server as "mail.ok1.local" and maybe the server to be found by file sharing clients as "server.ok1.local" instead of using the IP address. Otherwise we can sidestep it...
In general, the potential problem with .local domains are that macs expect these to be Bonjour/Rendezvous addresses and therefore looks for them via MDNS (in local network) and not look for them via a DNS server (which is what you might want at some time). It's all explained in this apple document...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107800
Note that this problem would only surface if you wanted to use the DNS services on your Server and use URLs to access server services, e.g. server.ok1.local. If you want to keep the domain just now but you do NOT wish to undertake the steps in the Apple doc then the settings I list below configure mail clients to access the server via it's IP address, thereby avoiding the requirement for DNS services.
As an alternative, an example domain might be: "ok1.loc". (It's no problem just changing this now).
    ======================
SO... To run local mail services fine without any local DNS...
    In Mail Services...
Settings->General - Enable: POP, SMTP, Allow Incoming Mail, Hold Outgoing Mail.
    Domain Name: ok1.local
Hostname: mail.ok1.local (actually, this is pretty redundant, but follows the 'norm')
Settings->Relay: Enable: Accept SMTP Relay, from Hosts: 127.0.0.1/32 and your local LAN (if LAN is 192.168.1.x then add 192.168.1.0/24)
Settings->Advanced->Hosting: Add "ok1.local" and "mail.ok1.local" to default "localhost".
Settings->Advanced->Security: Switch all off except for POP: APOP.
    Switch on mail services.
    CLIENTS
Firstly, those clients which already have external email addresses will need an additional account (in Mail) for the local messages. External email accounts should be left as they previously were before adding the new internal one (i.e. they should have your providers smtp and pop servers specified)
For 2nd account and 1st one on new clients, set smtp server and pop server to be the IP address of your server. POP clients will authenticate with authentication: 'password'.
    =========================
    That should be it.
However, note that when the clients with 2 accounts want to send an internal mail, they will have to select the 'local' account in the pop-down "Account" list which will appear on the email they are writing (after hitting'New'). This tells the Mail app which smtp server to send the mail to.
Of course, once you have shown that internal mail can work, then it will be a short hop to scrapping the existing paid-for external mail service for your 'real' domain and do it all yourself. But you would probably want to do a bit more reading up and testing before that - and probably read about and set up the local DNS.
    Good luck!
    -david
PS Please read-up the Mail Services manual to see what the above settings do.

  • How can I set up filters on my mail accounts on my iPad?

I want to put filters on my email when using my iPad so as to suppress spam and other undesirable messages.  How do I do this?

You can't do it with the Mail app, you need to set any filters before the emails arrive on the iPad - does your email provider have any settings that you can enable if you log into your account via a browser ?

  • How can I set a default window in MAIL (10.6.8) so that it's 27" wide?

I don't recall this problem pre-OSX. Opening MAIL (in Snow Leopard) results in a window that completely fills my iMac's 27" monitor, almost 100% of the time – even though when exiting MAIL I have all windows to a manageable size.
How can I limit MIAL to a default window sufficient to contain a "normal" e-message?

Shrink the window to the size you want, quit mail (may not even have to do that), and then the window will be that size until you change it.  Similarly for new message windows.  Mail remembers (or should remember) the size you set its various windows to.
    Update:
Hmm, you say you did that.  So what happens if you try this from another account?  Also, FWIW, the mail preferences are kept in com.apple.mail.plist.  If you are willing to potentially loose your mail settings and recreate them then you could try removing that and starting over.

  • Can't set up MSN account on mail

Can anyone help. I have been trying to set up my MSN mail account on my iMac but unfortunately it won't go online. It's saying the server doesn't recognise my password. I have already set up my hotmail account successfully but MSN WONT work. I contacted apple support but after an hour and a half they gave up saying my settings were fine I need to contact Microsoft. My account works everywhere else including my iphone and iPad. I even tried changing my password. Can anyone help. It's driving me nuts.
    Thanks.

Typically, right after I posted this, I managed to do it!!
For the benefit of anyone else: rather than choosing Yahoo from the menu, I clicked 'Add Another Account' (thinking I could manually add the IMAP settings|) and it worked...didn't even need to input them myself...

  • Can I set up gmail from my "mail" application?

I have wireless and I use airport etc to get the internet in my building. I am trying to set up gmail with POP and every time I do I cannot receive any emails although I can send emails out from my mail application with gmail-any ideas as to why I cannot receive emails would be appreciated... or can I ask an apple technician about this problem?

Did you follow the directions given at Gmail on how to set-up?
Let us know the setting from preferences/accounts so we can see if anything is incorrect. Frequently it is needing to have the server port changed. Mine is at 587, and all is working fine. Feel free to hide the info you prefer not to share, an example "username"@gmail.com.
