  • HT1329 My large iTunes library is on an external hard drive. Can I set up iTunes on my new Macbook Pro and copy the library to it or are there any pitfalls?

I have my large iTunes library on an external hard drive. Can I set up ITunes on my new Macbook Pro and transfer/copy this library to the internal hard drive or are there any problems I should be aware of?

ITs an old Iomega 100gb external HD that has about 90gb of music on it. The Macbook has a 500gb HD. I would like to put the iTunes library on the internal HD so I have room to expand.

The only thing you do not want to do is over-stuff the internal hard drive. The OS needs some space to operate correctly, so if your iTunes library uses up more than say 80 to 85% of the internal HD's available space it may not be a good idea to transfer it over.
With that said, the internal HD will provide slightly faster access to the library than the external would, but other than that, you can point iTunes to the external drive just fine.

  • How can I set up a VPN between two MacBook Pros

I am about to buy a new MacBook Pro, I will be leaving my old MacBook Pro in my office in Nicaragua and traveling with my new MBP. I would like to be able to access files on my old laptop from the road, I imagine using some sort of VPN software to patch into my old computer as long as it is on and connected to the Internet.
Can you help me to set this up. It feels as though it could be difficult, but I imagine it si much simpler than I think.
    Thanks,
    Richard.

  • Can I transfer a hard drive from one macbook pro laptop to another?

I have a 2009 Macbook pro with a cracked screen and a messed up track pad (laptop A), but a fully functional hard drive. I have another 2009 Macbook pro (laptop B) with a blown hard drive, but everything else seems to be fine.
I removed the blown hitachi 320 hard drive from laptop B and set it aside. Then I removed the seemingly good Seagate 500 hard drive from laptop A and put it into laptop B. When I turn on Laptop B with the hard drive in it I get the folder with the question mark screen.
HELP. I am not tech savvy at all. But I can follow directions. Thanks.
    Monica
*Please let me know if you need additional information from me.

Restart the computer with the Option key held down.
If you see the drive, click on it and then select it in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
If you don’t, insert a Mac OS X install DVD, press C if needed, and either repair the drive or install an OS onto it.

  • Can not set up messages to send from Macbook Pro to Ipad

    Hello everyone,
I am having trouble sending from MacBook pro Messages to Ipad. If I send a message from Ipad, it shows up in Macbook, however if I try to send from Macbook, it tells me "Your message could not be sent. Your message account is not signed in " SO I press sign in and a dialoque window pops up and I can see that I am actually signed in with my apple ID, and the acount is enabled. However it also shows that "Messages Inactive" and when I go to Messages menue, I can not even change my status.
I have checked the firewall, its off.  Please enlighten me, I am starting to feel like I am loosing it with technology

I am having the same problem. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I called apple restored my phone to its original and it did not work :-( Now it seems like it worked for a bit than stopped again. Now I have to contact Apple again to set up an appointment at an Apple store because it may be an issue with my phone. I have only had it for a week and half!

Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
Verify that the computer can run Mountain Lion. If not, then you would only be able to upgrade to Lion assuming it meets those requirements:
    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • How to set up multiple monitors on a MacBook Pro

Does anyone know how I might be able to set up more than one monitor to my MBP?
Is there a splitter available, or some other means of connecting additional monitors? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
still the best solution although pricey http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/
There are some USB-connected graphics expansions avaiable for Mac, but IMHO these are still not up to the task speedwise.

  • Multiple Interfaces into one macbook pro...?

So I do most of my tracking with a M-Audio Profire 2626, which has 8 XLR's. This is enough to get by, but I recently acquired a new drummer that has a slightly bigger set so it'd be nice to be able to run a couple extra preamps. I've

that I'm wondering if I can run along with the 2626 to allow myself 2 more pre's. Is this possible without running into a sound card? What are the other options, if any?
I think you can do that in the following way:
1.Go the the Mac "Audio Midi Setup (AMS)" dialog and create "Aggregate" device for both audio devices from the AMS menu dialog. Assign the Inputs and the Outputs for the new "Aggregate" device and name it as you want.
2.Boot Logic and select the new"Aggregate" device in the Core Prefs.

  • Can I bond two conections together in one MacBook Pro?

I am at the beach for a week, and in desperarte need of some conectivity. Although I haven't used it in a while, I have the Apple Modem, and can get in using that alone at ~52k using traditional dialup speeds (Ugh!). I had forgotten how slow that is!!! I also have my Verizon V740 data card which functions about at the same level in the absence of EVDO in my location, using the 1X network.
Can I bond these two to get >100k downloads?
    Thanks

Very doubtful... requires the ISP(s) cooperation and stuff on their end to get it done... and haven't seem Mac SW to do it on our end for years.

  • Can i conect 2 digital screens to one MB Pro? how?

    Hello folks
I hear that i can connect to 2 monitors somehow with one MacBook Pro, can someone explain how?
I allready plan on using the PCMA slot for eSata/FW800 raids. ( if this was the other option)
    please advise
    Thanks
    Larry

You mean you're going to use the "ExpressCard 34" slot for esata 800
There will be graphic cards coming out that use the ExpressCard Slot, but it might be a while.
I heard with a dual-link DVI cable you can hook up two monitors, but that it was a hack, since it's designed for powering a 30 inch cinema display. I can't confirm anything, maybe somebody on here can.
Once an expresscard video card comes out you will be able to for sure, but since the MacBook Pros use ExpressCard 34, instead of 54, i doubt there will be any graphic cards for that slot that are very powerful.

can you set up multiple user accounts on one laptop?

    Of course.
And instructions can depend on which OS X is installed.
For v10.7 Lion > OS X Lion: Create a new user account
For v10.8 Mountain Lion > OS X Mountain Lion: Create a new user account
When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.

It's not completely obvious. What you have to do in Spaces is to position your cursor to the upper right of the screen, after which faint + (plus) sign appears in that area. Click that, upon which another Desktop will appear.
The + may be difficult or impossible to see with some desktop backgrounds (black, for instance):
