I recently purchased an iPhone and am looking forward to getting everything setup. I'm currently living in Japan and my japanese bank doesn't have a card that has the jcb logo, nor do I have a credit card. So...

After that, you can login at iTunes on a computer, go to 'Account' and just change the payment information to something else.
NB: where I live, the only three options for payment are creditcard, iTunes gift cards and Click&Buy, not Paypal. It might be possible elswhere though, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the question. The duplicate charges you see may actually be authorization holds. To review the actual charges on your account, you can see your iTunes Purchase history as outlined by this resource:

To review the actual charges on your account, see your iTunes Purchase History. You will be asked to enter your iTunes account name and password. I purchased a $0.99 application today. I just thought that maybe somehow I could possibly have linked the two but I have no memory of doing so. How do I access my information to find out if indeed I have linked my Apple accound and my credit card?

If you don't want to use a credit card with the App Store and iTunes, there is a very specific way in which you have to create the Apple ID. If you don't follow the steps exactly, you are forced to put in credit card details in order to use that ID. The other option is abandon that ID and create a new ID.
Frankly, I hate the way that Apple handles creating an ID without giving users the option up front - in clear and uncertain terms - to create an ID without using a credit card. You have to search for the information in order to find it.
If you create a new ID, you will also need another email address to use now. Something else that makes this an even bigger PITA. This explains how to create the ID without a credit card.

I just received an email that appears to beep from Apple regarding my credit card used for my purchases with my Apple ID. I don't want to open the email until I can verify that it is not a scam. How do I find out if the notice is legitimately from apple?

I re-entered everything in iTunes just to make sure and then did the same with credit card account. Still no good. Message "We couldn't verify your address. Make sure you've entered the correct blah blah blah" This account is 7 years old! what could the problem be?

Woooooow, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen... I searched my address and apparently they decided to add a "Rd" to the end of my street name... I've NEVER used that before for my address, but as soon as I typed it into my iPad, it FINALLY let me in. SOOOO silly! Just go to this USPS site and type in your addy. Just created a new Apple ID. Now I'm worried about my credit card info from my old ID

Not really sure where to ask this and I've been on the phone with apple all day so I don't want to call again haha. I recently had to change Apple IDs because I lost my password and recovery key (2 step verification) My question is will auto renewal subscriptions tied to that old account continue to take place or is that account (and the credit card number tied to it) effectively dead? I'm really not comfortable at all with the idea that my old ID could still be withdrawing from my bank account without my authorization.

Have you redeemed your iTunes card to an account associated with an Apple ID?
Once you have your iPad associated with an Apple ID AND you have an account with a credit card associated with the same Apple ID AND you have some 'store credit' (from redeeming your iTunes card) then purchases use the store credit before they charge the credit card, so you should be ok!
Personally, I use 'store credit' as a way to monitor whether or not there have been any 'unauthorised' purchases because as soon as the store credit is zero, the security code from the credit card is needed for further purchases! It does mean that I have sometimes to top up store credit before making a purchase, but 'better safe than sorry'!

My partner, a self-confessed technophobe, has had his iPhone for 18 months - it was set up by his mobile network provider (Orange UK) whose customer support has been worse than useless, keeping him on hold for around 2 hours so far and cutting him off twice. He's only just bought his first ever computer, at the same time that his iPhone stopped working, before he had time to back up any of his songs, apps etc. He's just got a replacement iPhone from our local Apple Store but there's no way he can restore his previous purchases as (what he thought was) his Apple ID... isn't.
Because his old phone had v3 software, he apparently never had to input his Apple ID - only the password. Presumably Orange set him up with an Apple ID (but didn't give him the details) as the only email address he's ever knowingly had isn't recognised as a valid Apple ID. Try to reset the password by email and the Apple ID system isn't clever enough to spot an unrecognised email address, advising a new password will be emailed with no email ever arriving (not even in junk mail). (Incidentally, I tried to reset the password on an Apple ID I know isn't valid - my work email address - and it still appeared to have sent a password reminder by email, rather than pointing out the ID doesn't exist!). Attempting to reset the password by answering the security questions results in the answers being incorrect, which they're most certainly not. Since he got his original iPhone, he's purchased hundreds of songs on iTunes. He's clearly been sent receipts somewhere, but we have no idea where.
Apple Store staff are, as usual, brilliant, trying their very best to help, but their hands are tied when it comes to iTunes support, which they tell me is operated as a separate company in its own right (they don't even have access to them by telephone, and iTunes support refuse to talk to me or my partner on the phone).
iTunes support is sending us around in circles, offering up the same tried-and-tested advice time and again, which we've told them many times does not help. They continue to issue the same advice even after sending them a frustrated email headed "PLEASE READ OUR PREVIOUS EMAILS BEFORE RESPONDING!".
I've tried, in vain, to contact iTunes support again about this (they even closed the support ticket even though the issue isn't resolved), and have had no response.
There must be some way Apple can locate my partner's Apple ID if supplied with his credit card details, mobile phone number, billing address and examples of recent purchases? We've already provided this information to iTunes support but, once again, it's fallen on deaf ears and we've had no response from them.
Can anybody help us get to the bottom of this? As it stands, he's spent a fortune on hundreds of iTunes songs and apps which he is legally entitled to download, but which he can no longer access, and iTunes support isn't very supportive.
(Incidentally, I recently switched allegiance from 100% Microsoft products to 100% Apple and I'm mightily impressed with their regular customer service, but iTunes support is a completely different animal.)

This is going to depend on what wireless router got get. Some want to do all administration functions via a ethernet cable connection for security reasons.
Once the router is configured, you will no longer need a computer.
Try looking for a router that configures through a web browser & allows administration from a wifi connections.
I think the easiest thing will be to have a friend come over & configure with a laptop. I believe that you can configure the router without have a broadband connection. You could configure it at a friends house. Might not want to connect to the friends broadband so not to confuse your friends broadband. ( this is only a worry if the router also includes the broadband model. Just a wireless router without a modem is not worry ).
