Hi Jessica,
You need to update to Tiger to get Jabber connection through iChat.

  • Can we do a video from iChat to a Google Talk plug-in user

If a person I know is into using the Google Talk plug-in, which uses say [email protected] and I use iChat, can I Add Buddy entering [email protected] and invite that person to video chat?
There may be 2 parts to this:
    1) From Leopard
    2) From Snow Leopard
What I have seen so far:
A friend on Leopard cannot enter [email protected] and see my name in his Buddy List. Leopard wants .mac, .me or AIM in a popup.
In my own SL, I have entered an@gmail name in and see it appear with an AIM guy icon, but have not been able to try the chat.
Then, if iChat to GTalk can be done, can a 3-way chat be done this way?
I'm still trying to find someone to test with me but meanwhile maybe someone else has experience with it.
    Thanks.
    ~Deb

What? I don't think that is correct (about the Codec). Both ichat AV and google talk video use H.264 and MPEG4 audio for their codecs.
"Currently, only Gmail voice and video chat supports sending and receiving video. At this time, the H.264/SVC and H.264/AVC codecs are supported. Other codecs may be supported in future versions."
    And ichat A/V
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IChat
    Additionally, video conferencing uses H.264/AVC
And finally...Google Talk Video most certainly does NOT use Flash
    http://news.cnet.com/google-launches-video-chat-for-gmail/
"Unlike many current video chat products, Gmail Video and Voice uses a proprietary plug-in, not Flash. The small (2MB) download supports Firefox, IE, and Chrome on the PC, and Firefox on the Mac. Support for other browsers and platforms (Linux and mobile) may come later."
All that being said you are correct though about compatibility. Even though Apple and Google Talk videoconferencing use the same codecs for video and audio they cannot communicate with each other.

  • Problems using Google Talk with Messages

Hello everybody. I have configured my Google Talk account in Messages; everything was working fine, but I came across an annoying issue.
A friend of mine has Google Talk too: he uses Windows with Google's “official” application, together with the web plugin for Gmail. He is in my buddy list and we can chat, but we cannot make voice calls, nor use video chat: I see all buttons greyed out (except the “text chat” one).
Any ideas to make it work?
    Thank you very much

    Hi,
iChat or Messages to a Browser has never worked.
He needs to get a Mac or you need to change to using a Browser.
    The Why.
Google talk run a Jabber server.
Most Jabber App have a module call Jingle Library that does the A/V stuff.  See Jingle
Jingle use different A/V protocols to those used by iChat and Messages.
The linked article seems to get changed fairly regularly.
    Currently it reads
Jingle is an extension to the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) which adds peer-to-peer (P2P) session control (signaling) for multimedia interactions such as in Voice over IP (VoIP) or videoconferencing communications. It was designed by Google and the XMPP Standards Foundation. The multimedia streams are delivered using the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP). If needed, NAT traversal is assisted using Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE).
As of December 2009, the proposed Jingle specification has not yet been approved by the XMPP Standards Foundation, but is now a Draft Standard, meaning: "Implementations are encouraged and the protocol is appropriate for deployment in production systems, but some changes to the protocol are possible before it becomes a Final Standard."[1]
The libjingle library, used by Google Talk to implement Jingle, has been released to the public under a BSD license. It implements both the current standard protocol and the older, pre-standard version.
I have bolded the last part.
This article has reads that Google (And XXMP/Jabber) "Created" the Jingle process.  In the past the wording around this has varied and the implied involvement by Google has varied along with it.
Before that it did not mention Google in that way and also said the Google version was not that compatible with versions in other Jabber apps.
This "Older" version would be 3 years out to date.
iChat and Messages connect using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for A/V chats.
This works with an Intervening server acting as an "Telephone Operator" at both ends to check the Acceptability or the Incoming call and the ports to be used  (it also checks that where the Visible Invite went is the person replying/Accepting).
AS you both have Google IDs in may be simpler fro you to use a web Browser and download the Google Web Browser Plugin.
    NOTE:
This may have issues if you use the FLASH Plugin as well.
At one time Google Used Flash to generate the Video and it seems their plugin is very closely "related" in the way it works.

OK... So the Apple Care support call was not that productive. They were very nice, however, they basically had no idea what I was talking about. I was generally asking about the difference in LUN handling from 10.6 to 10.7 and they gave me the canned response of "you are not using Apple Hardware so we can't really help you, we are really sorry...." This was after being transferred to the "Enterprise Storage Group" or something like that.
So in my travels I found a tech note from another apple list which basically explains what happened between 10.6 and 10.7.
I'm not "that hardcore" but some of you guys will really get what is going on here. I'm a bit of an IT neanderthal but what has changed as some here have pointed to is that in 10.7 the OS does its own FC multipathing.
Here is what Manjo Radhakrishnan from Apple said...
"10.7 does its own FC multipathing. This has changed from 10.6 which did target based multipathing ( based on WWNN ). On 10.7 this has changed to lun based multipathing ( based on the unique lun identifier in the device identification VPD page ).
If the target supports ALUA ( Asymmetric logical unit access ), the host will do IOs only to the target ports configured as "Active-Optimized" for a particular lun. If there is no ALUA support, all paths to a particular lun will be considered active-optimized and IOs will be done across all the paths.
Ideally if the target does not support ALUA, you should configure the luns such that a lun is visible only across the ports of one of the target controllers ( lun affinity ) to prevent lun thrashing."
So here is the link to the thread...
    http://lists.apple.com/archives/ata-scsi-dev/2011/Jul/msg00001.html
If someone can translate this from smart-guy into dummy-end-user and tell me how to fix my infortrend boxes under 10.7 I'll buy you a bottle of really nice tequila (or several cases of yoohoo).
    thanks!

  • Pidgin farsight2 error using Google Talk video calls

    Hey all,
I'm trying to get video calls to work on Google Talk, unsuccesfull so far. I have all the deps installed (using Pidgin from [extra]) and the account works. I can send and receive messages, but that's it.
I can receive sound, but can't send. I can see my own webcam, but my contact doesn't see mine and I don't see hers. Whenever the call is established, I get this error:
    ┌─[jente@lappy ~][20:53:56]
    └─■ pidgin
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: kan gedeeld objectbestand niet openen: Bestand of map bestaat niet
I don't know why it defaults to libvdpau, as I own an ATi card. Anyway, I then try to mess with the settings as per so:
Video -> Output -> Plug-in: X Window System (Xv), Device: AMD Radeon AVIVO Video.
But it still crashes, with the same error.
That made me think that perhaps it is the input, so I changed those like so:
Video -> Input -> Plug-in: Test Input, Device: Standard.
    Same error.
Next step, like below, still same error:
    Video -> Input -> Plug-in: Video4Linux2, Device: Standard.
Lastly, I changed like this, but still, same error:
    Video -> Input -> Plug-in: Video4Linux2, Device: Video WebCam.
Can someone explain to me why it keeps erroring out looking for an nVidia specific library?

So I used pkgfile to find out which package contains libvdpau_nvidia.so:
    ┌─[jente@lappy ~][20:38:24]
    └─■ pkgfile -s libvdpau_nvidia.so
    multilib/lib32-nvidia-utils
    extra/nvidia-utils
I thought I could try to install nvidia-utils, as that might fix my issue. But I'm using Catalyst (as I said I got an ATI card) and nvidia-utils conflicts with catalyst-utils. So, I'm stuck again. Can anyone please fill in the blanks for me?

  • Voice Chat using google Talk

    Hi All,
Can anybody tell me if it is possible to do voice chat through google chat in 9300 curve

Gizmo (http://www.gizmoproject.com) allows you to by using a proxy to convert SIP to Jingle. It also does the same thing for Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live/MSN Messenger users. I've no idea how well it works though.
We'll have to wait until Leopard's released before we know whether Apple has added Jingle support to iChat. If they have you'll be able to do audio (and possibly video) with Gtalk users natively. I wouldn't count on Apple doing this though.

  • How I can I take my phone off Google talk so can stop getting this calls from different numbers that I don't know?

    Anyone know?

I Had the same issue.  I thought it was a virus.   Turns out it's either my ebay or PayPal app.   I noticed whenever an item was sold and or paid for on ebay, the cash register sound was made.

  • Google Talk and iChat Simultaneously

I want to use Google Talk without losing my iChat A/V, ie; Jabber List plus Buddy List. I setup Google Talk in iChat via Jabber, and tried to run it beside my iChat account, but got locked out of AIM because I was 'overusing the server'. I had to deactivate the GT Account (Jabber) to regain my iChat account. Is it not possible to have both? Or is there another solution for VOiP with the Windows world?
IMac Intel Core Duo, Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Joe,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
Not quite sure what you mean here.
    iChat has three Buddy Lists.
    The AIM (Main "Buddy List")
The Bonjour one (if you have other Macs)
The Jabber one. (includes GoogleTalk as you say)
The AIM and the Jabber ones require that you log in to different servers.
The only problem I can envisage is if you have set the Jabber account up with using a Transport back to your AIM name.
Having said that you are in Abu Dhabi and this may be what the local ISP is saying about your usage.
The Middle Eastern ISPs have issues all of their own normally centered around "Security"

  • Google Talk and iChat Snow Leapord

I am trying to find out if any other people can not longer video chat with a Jabber account using gmail account to anyone else that uses Google Talk. This set up worked fine before the upgrade to Snow Leapord and iChat 5.0
I have contacted Apple support and they will not offer support for setting up Google Talk.
I also have a Mobile Me account and still can not seem to video chat using a specific Apple test account.
So I looking for any help with that does use iChat and Google Talk

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
In iChat > Preferences > Video section Set the Bandwidth Limit drop down to 500kbps
This may help with the Audio issue with iChat Buddies.
Jabber Buddies not using iChat may not even be able to Video as very few Jabber Servers do this. (And they are working on their own Protocols called Jingle)
GoogleTalk is a Jabber server but have chosen their own method to do Video (not the same Codecs as iChat)
The Web Mail page chat option uses Flash. This seems to be compatible with the PC based Googletalk App (but not with iChat)
These maybe more readily found solutions
Alternatives to iChat but Video chatting In a Web Browser
MeBeam. An option to use a Web site that create Private room for Video Chatting. Uses Flash to access your Camera and Mic.
iVideoChat Similar setup but a somewhat corporate type look to the site. Has Public rooms as well. Again uses Flash.
Googlemail/GoogeTalk now do a Version in a Web Browser
Tokbox A Site that can link your existing Buddy Lists that USes Flash to Video chat in a Browser.
    From http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page5.html#_other
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • IChat + Google Talk: shrinks google's buddy icon. Any fix?

I use iChat for google talk. Unfortunately, every time I start up iChat, the buddy icon in iChat overrides the buddy icon on google's servers. iChat's icon must be smaller, because if i go to use google talk via web interface (in gmail, etc.), the buddy icon is very pixalated (as if google is trying to enlarge it).
Any way to stop iChat from overriding google's buddy icon???

Just sent this to the developer of Chax:
    Kent,
First let me tell you that Chax is one of the best add on programs out there for the mac. I value your work and appreciate it.
An issues that's been around for a while, and one which I wonder if you can take care of in one of the upcoming releases.
Basically, the problem is using iChat for Google Talk. What happens is that your buddy icon in iChat ends up overwriting the buddy icon you have set on google/gmail/gtalk/etc. This is a problem because iChat's buddy icon is much smaller, pixel wise, and ends up making the icon on any of google's pages look absolutely terrible.
Is there anything you can do to prevent iChat from overriding google's icon, or to have allow iChat to use a larger size icon (probably much more difficult).
There have been many threads about this on apple's discussion forums and on gmail/gtalk google group forums. There is no solution.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • How do I get google talk to accept my password when using imessage?

I have both a MacBook Air and Pro using iOS X - Maverick.  For the longest I have not been able to use iMessage with Google Talk.  I need to be on Google Talk for work and decided to set it up.  I set it up, but when I shut it down and then re-open it, Google Talk will not accept my password.  When I go to Google, it indicate suspicious behavior.  I can't find anywhere that will allow me the option allow imessage to use google talk in my google settings.  Please help.

    Hi 2douglas,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the password is being rejected. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Empathy fails to connect to google talk using gnome online accounts

    Hi there,
After last upgrade to gnome 3.6 empathy fails to connect to google talk using GOA credentials.
Of course I can configure a talk account directly in empathy but... I would prefer to use a single sign on (with gnome online accounts).
Does any one has this same problem?... Any clues?
    Best,
    M

    Yes...
    [miguel@miguel miguel]$ pacman -Q | grep gabble
    telepathy-gabble 0.17.1-1
    [miguel@miguel miguel]$
In fact I can use Google Talk if I create an account using Menu->Accounts in empathy.
    Best.

  • Can't use Google. At all. Please help!

A couple of days ago, I started having trouble using any Google applications or even loading the pages for them. I can't check my gmail, get on the iGoogle homepage, use the search bar in the browser, or even load www.google.com. At first I thought maybe it was just down for a few minutes, whatever. At work, I can check my e-mail, use Google normally logged in, etc. Then I came home and it didn't work here still.
Can anyone help? I have OS X, 4.11. My computer and internet are working fine. I am using an updated version of Safari, and have tried using Firefox-- no difference. I have tried using my fiance's computer (a Mac laptop, running 10.4.something) using Safari and Firefox too. Our computers are both hooked up via a broadband router to the same internet connection, which I have reset and restarted a few times. I have updated my computer, reset Safari twice, restarted the computer several times, etc.
Is it possible that our IP has been blocked by Google somehow? My account is working as always on other computers, and I can't even imagine something I could have done to result in that, but I really can't think of another explanation. Could our ISP have some sort of issue with it? I'm at a loss here.

Hi Julie, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Try putting this in the URL bar of any browser...
    http://209.85.171.100/
does that get you to Google?
If so, Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.
See if you might have this malware redirecting DNS queries...

Perhaps a problem with the plug in. Contact Google. Try Skype. (This is a hardware forum for MBP's).

  • Switching accts in Google Talk

I have two seperate gmail accounts synced to my incredible. When using Google Talk to chat, I am only able to chat with contacts from one of my gmail accounts. How can I switch to the other account to chat with my different contacts for that account?
I have tried sign off of chat hoping it would give me a seperate screen to log into but nothing comes up. Please help. Thanks

    Hi,
    The answer is still no.
I am not sure the PC GoogleTalk app or the Web Mail Message centre allows you to be Invisible (i.e Do Google do it because it will be a flag at the server that you are setting)
