Can I setup roaming profiles on Windows 7 with a NAS?

I am going to setup Windows 7 (64-Bit) on 2 Desktops & 1 Laptop on my home network.
I have a Central Axis NAS connected. I would like to be able to use roaming profiles on the PC's and have the Home location of the profiles on the NAS. I know the Laptop will have to keep a temporary profile on it until it can reconnect to my network.
I currently have no roaming profiles setup yet on any PC.
Has anyone attempted anything like this?

  • Can I setup "Roaming" and "Extended Network" on the same device?

I have 2 buildings that need wifi coverage.  In the main building, I have 2 Apple Airport Extremes.  I have one as the main router.  The 2nd has a network cable from the 1st unit and is setup as "Roaming".  I would like to add "Extended Network" (wireless) function to the 2nd unit.  Then I would place a 3 Airport Extreme at the 2nd building.  I have signal at the 2nd building, but I would like it to be stronger.
Can I setup an Airport Extreme with Roaming and Extended Network functions and if so, how would I do it.
    Thank you.

Yes, that should be no problem.
Windows 7 uses 5.6 airport utility.. what model extreme are you setting up??
But it is relatively simple.. you do not need to generally do anything now for the AE setup for roaming..
On the one you will extend, simply plug it into a computer.. run the airport utility.. go to the wireless tab and put in the extend wireless with the name and security of the wireless you are extending.

  • Migrating roaming profile from Windows 2000 TS to Windows 2008 R2 RDS

We have one TS running on Windows 2000. There are over 200 TS users. We are planning to migrate it to Windows 2008 R2. What's the easy way to migrate the roaming profile? Base on this article
    Support guidelines for migrating
roaming user profiles data to ...
Generally, user profiles that you create for users in Windows 2000, ... Server  2003 roaming user profile on Windows Vista or on Windows Server
2008. ...  These methods migrate the
roaming profile data to the new Version 2 user profile  format ...
    support.microsoft.com
    support.microsoft.com/kb/947025
There are two methods to migrate roaming profile. "Method 2: Use the Folder Redirection feature to share data between Version 1 and Version 2 user profiles" doesn't "migrate the desktop settings and preferences such as wallpaper because of
the differences in the operating systems". That isn't for us.
"Method 1: Use the User State Migration Tool to migrate profile data to the new format (Windows Vista Only)" is recommend that you the User State Migration Tool (USMT) to migrate profile data in the following scenarios:
You do not use roaming user profiles or folder redirection.
You want to enable a more full-featured migration of user profile data from Windows 2000-based or from Windows XP-based systems to Windows Vista-based systems.
Note The User State Migraton Tool will not function on Windows Server 2008.
So the method 1 doesn't work. Any suggestions?

  • Can you setup LACP across a stack with SG500

    Hi guys,
I am looking at buying 2x SG500-48 switches with the stacking cables and connecting them into a ring stack topology.
my reason for wanting this is so we can setup LACP connections from our hyper-v servers to the 2 stacked switches so the we have a redundant connection to the network if one of the switches is to fail. can you setup LACP links on the stacked SG-500 switches to be in the same group/link?

  • Roaming Profile Not Syncing with Windows XP Clients

I'm running an XServe with 10.4.8 as a PDC, with some XP systems authenticating to it. I don't have problems logging in or viewing the user's profile, but any files saved to the desktop are no longer accessible at the next login. If I create a file and store it in the user's profile desktop directory on the file server, the file does appear on the desktop the next time the user logs in. The profiles are stored on a Linux server running SMB, as are the home directories, which work fine. I'm not sure where to be looking to solve this.

Beginning with Windows XP SP2, Microsoft has disabled Basic authentication by default in an effort to increase security. Unfortunately their Digest authentication is broken so you can't connect using that authentication scheme either.
The following link shows you how to edit the registry to add a key in Windows XP to enable Basic authentication which will allow you to connect a Windows XP client to a Mac OS X Server using WebDAV.
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2netwk.mspx#EIN AE
    From that page:
You can enable BasicAuth by adding the following registry key and setting it to a non-zero value:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM
    \CurrentControlSet\Services \WebClient\Parameters\UseBasicAuth (DWORD)
    To restore the default behaviour:
If you delete the registry key or set it to 0, the behavior reverts to the default, or disabling the use of BasicAuth.

  • DLU / Roaming Profile on Windows XP machines

    Hello,
Newbie on ZCM, always worked with Zfd.
    Setup :
    ZCM 11 SP2
user profiles on a NSS share.
Not in home directories ( is this neccesary ? )
Logon with user name gives :
Policy does not allow interactive logon
When I use the workstation logon after that, the only allowed profile is Administrator.
More : the Administrator profile gets loaded onto the WS.
When I then check the ZCM agent, it reports it's logged on as the user ...
    Any ideas ?
    Stephan

That error is not a Profile Error.
It is a Windows Security Message.
There is a Windows Security Permission that controls who is allowed to
    logon interactively.
Most likely your DLU user is not a member of a group that grants that right.

  • How can I share DVD drive on Windows with multiple ODD?

My Windows machine have 2 ODD -- one CD ROM drive, another DVD R/W
(and one more virtual drive, which I think is irrelevant)
Installed "DVD or CD sharing" and remote computer is visible from Air via remote disk.
BUT when I connect and request for use, only first CD-ROM drive is ejected and MBA waits for that drive... and that drive only.
I can't see any configuration option to select which drive I will share.
How can I get DVD sharing work in this case?
    Does anybody have similar problem?
(Or where can I request for this functionality)

    Hello roaminggnome
Unfortunately the support is down at the moment, I will have a better look later. I did go though the Apple support previously, however I found nothing that worked.
The first thread I came across was “Home Sharing” however no mater what I did, it did not appear in the iTunes sharing list (I did go though the “Show Sharing Networks” support as well)
Secondly, I saw “Using A Single Library With Multiple Accounts On The Same PC” (Something like that) but all this did was let us share the same music location, if I was to rip extra music, it will not show in there library

  • Can I setup multiple SMTP servers / emails with one IMAP servers on the iPh

All my email arrives at one place, on one IMAP server. However I have 2 email addresses, and need to use a different SMTP server for each one. How to setup this on the iPhone? This is what I considered so far:
    1. I don't see how to enter multiple addresses for the same account, and map each address to a SMTP server.
    2. If I create multiple accounts, I have to enter multiple IMAP server, and the iPhone doesn't let me enter the same IMAP server information for different accounts.
    3. I could create a second account with a dummy IMAP/POP server, and a real SMTP server. But then most likely if I respond to mails that arrive on my IMAP server (1st account), Mail will always use my 1st email address when responding. Instead I'd like it to automatically pick as From the To address of the mail I am responding to (as the desktop Mail.app does).
    Alex

If you have multiple SMTP servers available, you can select from one of the available SMTP servers for a particular account.
After you've entered the SMTP server for the first account when creating the 1st account and you've entered the SMTP server for a 2nd account when creating the 2nd account, you'll have both SMTP servers available to use with either or both accounts.

  • I can't play any games on windows with bootcamp

I have a 15 inch retina macbook pro that I got a few months ago. I am running windows 7 on it with bootcamp. I have several games downloaded on it that I payed for and they won't work. A message always pops up saying something along the lines of either "DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error" or "Failed to initialize display adapter. Please ensure your video card is compatible and the drivers for it installed. Usually this is a result of missing vendor specific drivers." Anyone know how to fix it? I already chatted with apple support and they were little help. They said to go to the mac side and change the automatic graphics switching setting to off. I tried that and it did not help. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Joseph Raygun wrote:
Yes. When I first installed windows 7 I did and I also just downloaded the file called bootcamp 5.0.5033 and tried to run the setup in the NVidia folder but it failed.
This why your Windows installation is not working. You must download and install the correct support file version which contains the drivers. Start Boot Camp Assistant and select only the Support software option. Download this software to a usb device according to the instructions. Then from within Windows install the support software according to the instructions.

  • Can't setup my domain name email with mail

    Mail version 4.5
I have a domain name and an email with that domain ( [email protected] )
I am tring to set it up with mail but it dosen't work.
    Any tutorial about this?

You will have to get the server names from your domain name provider - both incoming (POP or IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) and obviously you will need your username and password.
The setup procedure is described here:

  • How can I set up Boot Camp/Windows with 2 SSDs?

I've got a late 2011 Macbook Pro running Yosemite. I have boot camp running Windows 7 on my HDD but decided I would like to change some things up. I am going to remove the optical drive and put in a 256 gb SSD in it's place and also upgrade the 500 gb HDD to a 512 gb SSD. I am hoping to have the 512 gb SSD in the primary drive spot running OS X and the 256 gb SSD in the optical bay running Windows 7. I'm hoping to just be able to copy over the OS X partition on my current HDD to one SSD and the Windows 7 partition to the other SSD. Would this work? Also, if my 256 gb SSD in the optical bay only has Windows 7 loaded on it would my computer be able to boot up Windows 7 without problems or is there more to this than I anticipate?

Here is the update from my situation. I'm posting it here in hopes of helping people who may be looking to do something similar to what I did. I followed Loner T's instructions and it worked perfectly.
I was worried about installing Windows 7 on it's own hard drive and running it on mac hardware but everything worked out. After I initially installed Windows 7, I did notice that there were some problems with the screen being zoomed in and it failed to recognize stuff like my wireless hardware so I couldn't connect to any wifi signals. I rebooted into OS X and simply used the Boot Camp Assistant to download the latest Windows support software from Apple and put that on a thumb drive. I booted into Windows where it was still acting funny and ran the support software installer. After a few minutes it rebooted and everything was working exactly like it should and it recognized all the right hardware for wifi and everything!
For anyone looking at doing what I did with my MBP, please don't waste time trying to boot up Windows from an external drive. I have seen lots of stuff online about people struggling to get Windows to boot up from a USB drive or external optical drive and it makes the situation way more complicated. Just follow Loner T's process above and it will work.
