Can I skip the latest iPhoto 6.0.6 update ...

...since my iPhoto 6.0.5 version is working just fine. "The update addresses an issue associated with EXIF data compatibility and photocasting". As far as I know I've never used EXIF data. I suppose I could try the update and if problematic I can revert back using my latest bootable clone.
Thanks.

Raymon:
You can revert back to 6.0.5. All you need to do is make a copy of it before running the 6.0.6 updater. Then if you want to go back to the .5 version just delete the .6 version.
I believe the EXIF data they're referring to is the information contained in each file coming from a digital camera. iPhoto reads the Created Date and uses than upon import.
To insure a good update I'd repair disk permissions before and after running the updater.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can't locate the right iPhoto Library

I have a friend who can't find the right iPhoto Library.  Mac OS X 10.7 or 8...  latest iPhoto.  Searching in Finder for "iPhoto Library" produces no results, even though we see an iPhoto Library item in her Pictures folder (not the right one).
So this leads me to believe that for some reason Finder won't display that....not sure why it would do that...but anyway.  She's a professional photographer, and doesn't know the name of most of the photos, because they are photos name by the camera.  She tried to find some with just the .jpg extension but everything was email or web based results that we found.  Thousands upon thousands.  This has happened before, and it was fixed, but we can't remember how.
Any help on how to locate the right version would be great.  Also, her Time Machine only seems to have the same one as in Pictures.  I think the iPhoto Library she uses is located somewhre else on the drive.
I also tried Locate and Find in the terminal, but neither brought up anything.
    Thanks in advance.

Download and use  Find Any File to search for "Library6.iPhoto" which is a file in every iPhoto Library.  If there's another library on your hard drive FAF will find it as it can search areas that Spotlight can't.

  • How can I reinstall the new iPhoto

I just downloaded and installed Mavericks - not too bad a process. I kep trying to upgrade to the new iPhoto 9.5 and it failed to show up. Since I have few pictures on this MacBook Pro I decided to delete the old iPhoto - purchased apps shows that the new iPhoto is installed but I am unable to find it - can someone help?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your Mac came with discs or you installed iPhoto from the iLife DVD, insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 2 or Applications DVD and install iPhoto performing a custom install. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest iPhoto version. If you haven't got the discs that came with your Mac mini, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 The other option is to buy the most recent iLife version.
If your Mac didn't come with discs or you purchased iPhoto in the App Store, open the App Store, go to Purchases and download iPhoto. In both cases, iPhoto can be installed free of charge

  • Which is the latest iPhoto version compatible with Mountain Lion ?

Please, which is the latest iPhoto version compatible with Mountain Lion?
I just updated my OS X to 10.8.5 and still have iPhoto '11 v9.2.3. I have been unable to find if there is a newer compatible version of iPhoto; while I know that iPhoto 9.5.1 is incompatible with Mountain Lion.

Do you know where I can get it?
If you have a version of iPhoto '11 installed, try the updater, that Terence Devlin linked to. If you do not already own a version iphoto '11, buy an installer disk from for iLife '11 from Amazon or eBay. You cannot download a full installer for free, only updates.

  • With the latest iPhoto software is it possible to 'flip' an image or as some say do a 'mirror image' of the photo?

With the latest iPhoto software is it possible to 'flip' an image or as some say 'mirror image' a photo, meaning to change it from left to right to right to left, or vice-versa.

No - but with preview (included on your Mac) you can and you can set Preview as the external editor for iPhoto - so I guess you can with the latest or any version of iPhoto

I have a 2008 mac, and am trying to use the latest iPhoto app. But it won't open. I have installed the library upgrade but still won't open?

Why not? We can not see you so you have to give us details
Did you run the iPhoto Library upgrader after you installed it - if not backup your iphoto library and go to the utilities folder in your Applications folder and double click on the iphoto library upgrader and RUN i - then launch iphoto 9.6 to complete the upgrade

When trying to open iphoto I get the error message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." How do I fix this and get my photo's back?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Just downloaded mavericks, now iPhoto won't load because of an error message that says "You can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac" . I have a 17" MacBook Pro, mid 2010 model running 2.53 GHz and Intel Core I5,

I just downloaded the new Mavericks operating sytem on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro, 17" 2.53GHz, Intel Core I5 machine. My IPhoto is no longer working at all, I'm getting an error message that says - "You Can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac". I also loaded Mavericks onto my other MacBook Pro 17", mid 2009 model and everything works fine. I would think that the newer Mac would easily work with IPhoto. Also, when I try to download from the App Store, it asks for my Apple ID and Password, I enter it, and then the little spinning color wheel just spins forever, with nothing ever happening. I tried downloading the IPhoto Upgrade but it never actually downloads, HELP!!!

What version of iPhoto do you have installed?  Is if one of the versions shown as not compatible in this screenshot?
If it is then go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5.  It will be free if you have an iPhoto 9 or later verson currently.

For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.
