Can I split a large project, finalise each section.........

Can I split a large project, finalise each section then recombine to put onto DVD? It will be too large and cumbersome otherwise and in danger of crashing. I'm using iMovie version 10.0.5

You can indeed divide a project into pieces, share each piece separately to file then combine the resulting files together outside of iMovie using for example Quicktime Player.   I find this is a good way of keeping the working project manageable in size.
You can burn the 'joined-up' file to a DVD as a data DVD which will play on a computer.  If, however,  you want to create a DVD that will play on an ordinary DVD player that is different story that a lot of other posts have covered, since iMovie 10 no longer supports direct transfer to iDVD and chapter markers..

  • Can you split a large PHP form in the tabbed panels?

I have a large PHP customer feedback form that posts to my mySQL server.  The customer experience isn't great.  Can you split a large form into seperate tabbed panels?

Sure I don't see a reason why not.  It's basically using javascript to show/hide active parts of your form.  So when you submit your server script would still process the data as though it were one page (ie: all variables are passed even if not on tab).

  • How can I split a large library without days of tedious work???

I've been reading other discussions for a few hours but feel my situation warrents a new discussion to see if anyone can help.
I've been using iPhoto for many years. I've been using a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 2007 era iMac the whole time. I'm now using iPhoto v8.1.2. Running OSX 10.6.8.
My iPhoto library is now quite large with about 40,000 photos and about 175 G in total size. I have put a lot of time into organizing the photos. Everything is religiously backed up.
Over the past year or so the performance of iPhoto in terms of speed has been slowly declining. It takes a long time to open, but the most cumbersome is the spinning beach ball when I "commit" to enhancements to a photo I've made (contrast, saturation, sharpness etc). Recently that beach ball could actually take 3-5 minutes. I find this intolerable.
So I started researching this to see if others have the problem. As best I can make out after a few hours of research is that my library is too large and my computer too old. I don't want to replace my computer becuase of iPhoto so I started researching the idea of splitting my library into smaller libraries.
I found several 3rd party programs (iPhoto Buddy, iPhoto Library Manager) that made it seem they may be able to help me easily split my library into several libraries. Unfortunately neither actually does this but instead tells you how you need to do that manually.
The methods to split your library manually they suggest are horrendously tedious for a 40,000 photo library with over 1,300 carefully constructed Events.
And this brings me to where I stand today. I copy my entire library to an external hard drive, open the copied library and what I WANT to do is prune it to say 1/10 of the size (say two years of my photos). (Realize I'll have to do this process of copying my entire library 10 times, and pruning each time.)
But then I find out that iPhoto totally chokes when you try to trash more than "80-100" photos at a time! Morever, I come to find out that emptying the trash of even 80 photos takes 3-5 minutes!
Although I appreciate the help and advice, perhaps you can understand my frustration with Apple. I'm literally an indentured servant to iPhoto if I want to preserve all the work I've done on my library. I'd switch to another program if it would preserve all my events but I can not find one that does.
    1. The performance of their software declines with no warning to the point where it can't be used unless you're unemployed and have nothing else to do.
    2. You look for a fix and find you have to split your library.
    3. When you try to split your library you find it will takes days and days of tedious work to complete.
So that is my story. That is why I'm so angry with Apple.
Have I missed anything or am I doomed to this dreary work?
Thank you for any help and guidance you can provide.

My next move would be to rebuild with Library Manager:
    note the caveats:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Phoshare will still work for an older version of iPhoto like yours. The problems it reports are with iPhoto 11, and that has the same ability built-in, so making it redundant.
I'm not sure about videos, an email to either developer should answer that one for you.

  • How can I burn a large project to multiple DVDs?

    Hi All:
I am using a trial version of Adobe Elements 12.  I am trying to burn a large (30+ GB) project to DVD.  I need to burn this to multiple DVDs; is this possible with Elements?
    Thx,
    Ramesh.

OK, I re-opened the project in PE and the watermark seems to have gone!
Attempt 1 to burn it to a BD disc failed - at first, there was a message about a transcoding error @ 1% through the process.  I ignored it, came back an hour or so later and got the infamous 'unexpected Error / application needs to be restarted"
Attempt 2 is in progress right now - again at 1% I see a transcoding error.   am letting it run overnight (or until it crashes, whichever comes first).
Needless to say, after dropping $250 on this and Adobe nickel and diming me for $99 just so that I can "try out their product without the darn watermark" I am not impressed.  Heck Adobe, just give your customers a limited use license!
At first the "buy now" takes me to a website offering a license for $79.  Due to some browser incompatibility issue, I had to resubmit (manually) via another browser and here, the $79 offer was not available - and Adobe's online help Agent was as useful as I am finding this product right now!
This is not an open source / freebie product, so my expectations are somewhat higher!
    End of rant!
    Ramesh.

  • How can I export a large project to multiple DVD's

I am trying to export a project to a DVD. The .approject it creates is too big to fit onto one DVD. It is about 9GB. I have tried exporting it and then using right-click on the .approject to Show Package Contents. I then burned the the indvidual files in this to about 3 DVD's. How can I re-import this to another computer/ Aperture library? Can I simply read all the dvds into to a folder named ...approject and then try and import this?

There are other more hackish solutions but I'm going to point you to DropDMG which works great for your purpose, making backups to CD/DVD, making online backup segments, and optionally encrypting all the previous.
I'm not associated with the vendor, just a satisfied customer. You know you should also be making backups, so it's $20 well spent.

  • Splitting a large RH 10 project

Tried using drag/drop between 2 open projects so I can split a large project into two.
Either it doesn't work or I'm not doing something right (hopefully the latter!)
    Thanks
    Bill

I think my reply rather hinted at the fact it was not going to be an easy solution.
I think the problem with dragging and dropping would be that when you are going to drag Topic 1 and Topic 2, when you drag the first topic, the link to the second topic will not be valid so what is Rh to do? It is the same when you import Word documents that have links.
We don't see many people wanting to do this so I would have to wonder how much resource Adobe would be willing to throw at this solution. Try this link.
    http://www.Adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=38
Are you aware that importing allows you to import all the topics in a single folder at the same time? Maybe that would help. It will not resolve broken links though. That is why I used the method I did as I inherited thousands of topics with many links to each other.

How can I burn a 60 min Hd video on a PC at best quality, I can't split the project in the timeline?

I replied long before post 7, but my reply did not get posted...instead it remained unsent. I have been having computer Internet connection problems. I was able to recapture it from restore feature of posting. Below is what I wrote.
    Thanks for the reply.
Just in case note....for a regular DVD player, granted it is important to have a video format that the player supports (namely DVD-VIDEO format); however, the other half of the consideration...the player needs to support the disc type (media type) that the video format is on. I do not know of a regular DVD player that supports DVD-VIDEO on a memory stick.
If you have recorded PAL 1080i (1920 x 1080 @ 25 interlaced frames per second), that interlaced video exists with Field Order: Upper Field First.
But, you end product DVD-VIDEO is characterized by Field Order: Lower Field First. If you run into this type of Field Order problem, then there are 2
possibilities to get that taken care of
    a. Assuming that you are using Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13....set the project preset (manually) to
    PAL
    Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders
    Full HD 1080i25
    or
    b. Import the source media using
    PAL
    AVCHD
    Full HD1080i15
and then, for each Timeline 1080i, right click it, select Field Options from the pop up menu, and then select Reverse Field Dominance.
When you export to file, you lose the opportunity for menus. The only export to file with menus is found in the webDVD export which is
in reality a flash file with menus. That might be a consideration for playback through the web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.
If putting a file on a memory stick is a working possibility, you might want to look also at AVCHD.mp4 1920 x 1080p25, but all depends on the
    support of the player.
Lots to think about. If you need clarification on any of the above, please do not hesitate to ask.

I share an Apple ID with someone but we are now on iOS8 and getting each others messages on our iphones and ipad. How can I split the account safely as well as protect icloud backed up data?

Use different Apple IDs for iMessage (and also FaceTime) to avoid getting each others text messages (and FaceTime calls).  One of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive (and Settings>FaceTime), tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  You can continue to shared the same ID for the iTunes store and other services.

  • How can I split a waveform into chunks at each sawtooth?

I have spent a lot of time trying to tackle this problem and hope someone can offer a useful insight!  I have attached the VI described here.
I am using Labview connected to a NI USB-6212 DAQ to create a voltage ramp, which drives a laser through its scan.  The laser is pointed at a detector, and I simultaneously read in a signal from that detector using the same DAQ. Because the detector is illuminated by the laser, it shows the scan ramp.  I would like to repeat this voltage scan and read-in indefinately.  Much of this system is working.  I have used the "RampPattern.vi" to create a sawtooth wave, which is output successfully to the DAQ.  As expected, the input from the detector shows the same sawtooth pattern.  However, I am having a lot of trouble managing and displaying the scanned sawtooth from the detector, which is currently read in as a waveform.
The challenge I can't seem to get around is manipulating or collecting the sawtooth in such a way that I can do two things:
    1)  Display the incoming sawtooth a 'tooth' at a time.  Each sawtooth represents one laser scan, and I would like to see the incoming scan ramp as a single slope, not a series of sawtooths.  Ideally,as each scan came in, it would replace the prior scan (as in the Labview 'graph'), so that the plot would show a motionless scan that would flicker up the input of the last scan.
    2)  Split the incoming sawtooth at each ramp into an ever-updating array that could be acted upon with the math functions, saved to a file, etc.
I have the feeling that this wouldn't even be a speedbump for an experienced user, but I have been hung up on it.  Could I collect the incoming analog signal from the detector in chunks that are the length of each ramp?  Could I trigger an event at each ramp that would split off the waveform into an array?
I am open to any suggestions!  Thank you for the input and help,
    Sam

    Problem solved!
The solution was to wire the "number of samples per channel" setting in the DAQMx Read VI.  I set the 'number of samples per channel' to the number of points in each sawtooth scan (that is the same value as 'number of samples in waveform' used to generate the sawtooth in BasicFunctionGenerator.vi).
The DAQMx Read Analog VI now reads one sawtooth at a time.  The Waveform Graph displays each sawtooth, one at a time, as captured.  The output waveform also has the proper dimensions (the length of the scan) and I can perform math operations on each single scan.
Works great! I have posted the operational code.

  • How can I split a project. In iPhoto one could choose that option from the Events dropdown on the toolbar

How can I split a project? In iPhoto I could use the Event tab in the tool bar and there was an option to split the event but I can't find it on Apeture 3.

Hi Wayne.  Aperture and iPhoto differ in many -- perhaps all -- ways.  They were designed (afaict) with radically different users in mind.
To move images into a new Project, select them, then execute "File→New→Project" and check "Move selected items to new project".

    Good day Colin,
In order to split a PDF file, you'll need to use Adobe Acrobat.
You may want to try turning off the 'Recognize text' option and converting your file again, it may help.

  • How do I select all clips in a large project with out individually select each clip?

I have a large project with ~1000 clips (still jpgs).  My question is how do I select all of the clips without individually selecting each clip?

Thanks for the reply with additional information.
The suggestion given would be applicable to your Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7.
As an aside, have you updated 12 to 12.1 yet? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. The major perk of the update
is that it corrects an Expert workspace Text/Style issue. There are other less defined advantages included.
Please let us know if the suggestion for Select All worked for you.
    Thanks.

  • Hi 8 footage can't split scenes

I have just loaded 12 tapes, from a project filmed in 1992, into imovie 08. They were all video 8 or Hi8 digitized through the camera. However each tape is just seen as one clip. I can't find how to break up the clips. If I drag part of the video to the project window it tells me the whole 60 mins are there. I have been waiting for a something like this as it makes viewing large projects a breeze but I'm going to end up with humungous sized files to put any of this footage together! Any help would be so much appreciated.

    William,
I have over 50 hours of footage loaded into my iMovie Event Library and the only slowdown I experience is when I initially boot up iMovie (it takes about 20 seconds after start up before the spinning beach-ball goes away). Part of the reason for this is because I have 50+ hours of footage, and part is because my setup is less than ideal. I don't have a desktop computer, so do manage my library and edit my projects with a MacBook and 1TB external hard drive connected over USB. So, if my setup runs pretty snappy aside from the initial start up, yours should run blazingly fast.
I have confirmed the suggestion posted above by Jon and others, and I can assure you that it does work. Keep in mind, however, that the splitting a clip in the project library does not result in the clip being split in the event library. There is currently no easy way to permanently split a clip in the event library (without transcoding the DV into AIC).
In order to do what is being suggested, drag and select the portion of the clip (you don't have to select the whole thing) that you want to add to your project. Then drag that selection to the project window. In the project window, if you want to split a particular clip into two, then click and drag from the point that you want to split at to the end of that clip. The section that will become the second clip should be highlighted in yellow. Now, select Edit > Split Clip from the menu bar. Voila, you should have two clips. Again, this will not change the original footage in the event library, but the clip will be split in the project window.
Under the Share menu, you will find the options for exporting the video. I don't have Final Cut Pro (or Express for that matter), so I can't verify how well iMovie '08's export options play with FCP. Good luck.

  • Can I create a large slideshow in Aperture?

I have about 800 photos I want to make a slideshow in Aperture3.3, add audio, theme. Can this be done, or should I split it up? In the past in iPhoto, iDVD, I have had problems getting large projects to process, they seem to stall. I just recently purchased Aperture, this is my first project. I have USB thumb drive 8GB to transfer the Slideshow to, will this be a problem? I was told I could drag and drop the slideshow to the thumbdrive. We were on a long trip with friends and I want to give this to them as a gift. Thank you for your answer.

Can I suggest that if you're making a large slideshow then you might be best working in iMovie or a dedicated Slideshow app. You'll have much more fine control over what happens - especially with the sound track and the timings.
    Alternatives to Aperture's slideshow include:
    iMovie, on every Mac sold.
Others, in order of price: PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.
