Can I still add memory?  Or is 4GB as good as it gets?

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro with Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.  I have oodles and oodles of photos on this computer and I think I've about used up my memory space.  However, I also believe that this MacBook Pro is maxed out. I read somewhere that there are only 2 memory slots in this computer and it only takes up to 4 GB.  I guess, by today's standards, this MacBook Pro would be considered "old."  So what are my options?  Or are there any?  Is it time to buyt a new computer with lots of memory?

Once you have the MBP open to change the RAM,  you only have to remove a couple more screws to remove the hard drive and put a new one in.   I'd do the RAM first and make sure the MBP is running with the new RAM before moving on to replace the hard drive.  That way if something goes awry with the RAM installation you know it right away.
The real work is re-installing OS X and your applications on the new hard drive.
Although you could ease this process by preparing in advance to clone your old drive to your new drive instead of installing everything from scratch on your new hard drive.
Install a copy of CarbonCopyCloner on your (original) hard drive before taking it out of your MBP
When you remove the original hard drive, put it in an external FW enclosure like this one (and if it doesn't come with a power adapter, be sure to get one)
After you physically install the new hard drive in your MBP, put the bottom cover back on.
Connect the external hard drive via FW and boot your MBP off the external drive  (hold down the Option key while booting; when prompted, select your external drive)
Use Disk Utility to format the new hard drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Use CarbonCopyCloner to copy your entire old drive (the one that is now in the external case) to your new internal hard drive
Shut down your MBP
Restart your MBP while holding down the Option key.
When you are prompted to select which drive to boot from, select your new hard drive
Done
Now you can keep the old drive in the external case as a backup of your original system, or wipe it and use it for storage
Alternatively, you could try this by putting the new drive in the enclosure and cloning your old drive to the new drive first, before swapping them in your MBP.  But that approach involves extra steps and hasn't always worked for me.
I prefer installing everything from scratch on a new hard drive.  But many people just clone their old drive and it usually works fine.

  • I had my ipod touch and iphone synced to itunes on my computer that just bit the dust...If I don't replace the computer, can I still add stuff to these two devices?

I had my ipod touch and iphone synced to itunes on my PC and basically managed my photos and music, etc. from there.  However recently my computer died and I am considering replacing it with an ipad eventually.  Can I still add stuff onto my two devices?  And if so, am I limited to apple store purchases only?  Can I retain all the photos and non-apple store downloaded music that is presently on these two devices?  Any guidance in this area will be very welcome!

    Hi
By customization what exactly you mean ? if you have applied states, effects etc to slideshow still add button should work. Or if you are using the slide show in some container.
    Please provide more details.

  • Music on ipod is not in library can I still add songs?

So all of the music that is currently on my ipod was not backed up from my old itunes library and I definitely don't want to lose the entire collection I have on my ipod.
If I were to buy songs from itunes is there a way to add those songs without losing all of the the content I have on my ipod?

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • Ipod gift from a friend, can I still add music.

I just received an Ipod 30G from a good friend. He added over 6,000 songs over the last couple of years. I want to go to Itunes and add more, however,I am not sure how I will register myself as the new owner, since he already did that 2 years ago. I am also nervous that the songs that are on the pod will disapear when I log on?
    Any ideas?

You might have to do this on your friends old computer. Then on your computer you can manually add more songs to the iPod but iTunes won't delete what is on there.

  • I have an iMac5, 1 with dual core of 2 x 512 MB. Can I add memory to the original computer to take advantage of the new OSX Mavericks download?

I have an iMac5, 1, with a dual core of 2 X 512 MB RAM. Can I add memory to my original computer in order to take advantage of the recent OSX Mavericks download?

    You can:
    Maximum Memory
3.0 GB (4.0 GB can be installed, only 3.0 GB will be addressed)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
You will need to replace the modules you now have with one 2 and one 1 GB module or two 2 GB modules.
You cannot install anything higher than 10.75 Lion as your model is not able to run anything higher.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Be sure to check whether any of your applications will have to be upgraded or replaced..

my iPod touch needs to be restored. however, all of my movies/apps/songs/photos are not backed up on my computer because the shop on my computer does not work. can i still get the memory on my iPod touch 32gb back?

If you weren't able to sync the purchases to a computer previously and now your iPod needs to be restored so you can't sync it now, then you may be out of luck and will need to purchase your content again. Officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications and iBooks. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places.
You can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service (select the "Music Purchases" or "Video Purchases" category, as appropriate, then "Lost or Missing Items". You'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form - or an "Email Us" button) ") and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.
    Good luck.

  • Can you add memory to iMac 6.1?

Can you add memory to an iMac 6.1 (currently has 1 GB) and an MacBook Air (currently has 2GB) - 11 inch late 2010?

    Yes,
Your year and model iMac can take 4 GBs max., but that model will only recognize only about 3.2-3.4 GBs of the total 4 GBs.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).

  • Why cant I add songs in my itunes library.  I can still add movies but not music, Why cant I add songs in my itunes library.  I can still add movies but not music

Recently, I can no longer add songs in my itunes.  I can delete it or move the songs into playlist but adding songs doesn't work anymore.  I can still add photos and movies but not music.  Please help me solve this issue.

I have a master iTunes file that contains all the music that I or my children have bought and then my own collection within the file. That song, 'Mercy, Mercy Me/I Want You' is gone from both lists
Nabitnak,  Not sure what kind of master file you are keeping, but the song file is probably in your backup.
Why is that song not available on iTunes? I can get it on Amazon.
The iTunes Store, like any retailer, does not have 100% of all existing items.  But anyway, if you can buy it on one store, it hardly matters why another store does not have it.
The coincidence of my missing song and iTune's missing the same song is beyond suspicious.
Maybe, although if you have a backup it should be there.
To address the other part of your question, "I can find it on You Tube, why not iTunes?":  Youtube has content that is uploaded by users.  Music retailers such as iTunes have content that they are licensed to sell as downloads.  The two things have nothing to do with each other.

Several ways.  Open a Finder window & the info will be at the very bottom of the window frame.  Also, if you open Disk Utility, click your hard drive, the info will be listed in DU.  If your HD is shown on your desktop, click on it.  Also, the info can be found inside the System Profiler.
