Can I still get help for known screen problems on my 2006 iMAc 17 inch?

In 2010, I took in my little-used iMac 17 in Intel core duo for a screen replacement with  a serial number W8602 etc with an Apple-approved dealer in London as I was working nearby.
The iMac had begun to show vertical lines, such as those many who had this model report, which apparently have to do with a chip problem. However, I didn't know that at the time, and neither diod the repairer - they replaced the screen, which within a few months started to go wrong again.
My partner got ill so I did nothing about it, as I'd moved away from London and couldn't easily access the reapirer, but now the machine is totally unusable.
I'm furious at Apple, and at their repairer, I had Apple Care at first with this machine but of course, as the machine had light use, the problem didn't show up for a long time.
They should have issued a recall of this machine, but I guess they were hoping it would go away as Mac people upgrade more frequently. But I think something you pay £1000 for should las the course.
Is there anything I can do now?

Hello Alex,
We're just other users here, & I don't consider it likey, but if AppleCare can't help, ask to speak to customer service, also, no idea on EU consumer laws that I hear are a bit better than over here.

    If the computer is registered with Apple as new from December 2013, then if you search for the apps to "buy" (Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband) in the App store, it SHOULD give you the price as FREE.  If it does not, I suggest you contact Apple and ask their advice.
    This is what Apple say about eligibility for iWork and iLife for free:

    The only possible "glitch" in this is that you were not the original purchaser.  Speak to Apple and see what they say - they may be willing to facilitate the download for you.

    My daughters iBook G4 is running Tiger. She says its in the high 10.4's for updates. She has been running something like Neo Office for years, now she needs Word. Besides the bundled version, I thought that she might be able to somehow just get "Word" Not sure how much HD space she has left.     You can run Microsoft Word Mac 2004 or Microsoft Word Mac 2008.

    You should have Extension Manager with your install of CS5.5. If not you can download it here (the link to CS5.5 is about half way down the page):

    Adobe Exchange only supports CS6 and beyond so you can use Adobe Exchange Classic in the mean time:

    I'm afraid you will have to buy another pair.  Apple Care is an extended warranty, it does not cover Theft, Loss, Damage by user.

    The iTunes Store no longer sells games compatible with iPods other than the iPod touch. Applications requiring iOS 4 or newer can't be run on the first generation iPod touch.

    In iTunes prefs>Store - is the Store check box unchecked?

    I am very, very sorry to read that. My windows pc is just crashed because of a virus my payed anti-virus program could not deal with, and everything have to be cleared totally. (XP pro - browser used at the virus-time = Mozilla. Anti-virus program = The price winning PC-tools)
    Have to start all over again from scratch.
    Therefore I wanted to change to a new Mac machine for my CS3.
    I know I could upgrade to CS4, but do not need the CS4 for the time being, so I have to stay with Windows.
    Alle my other programs - Nikon - Topaz -  Nik-software - Hemi. - Jason Odell - have been so very helpfull and trusted me and have send me new keys - THANK YOU, you have a lot of problems when this problem happens, so they removed some of the stones, , but not Adobe, they said by telephone (I also tryed a mail, but no answer), that I have to sit at the pc for installing and then try to call them by telephone to get help for autentification, and nobody can promise me it will be the same day.
    Last time it took one and a half our to get through by telephone.
    I really love your program (CS3 extended) ....... but not this.

    Disable Users: Nobody can log in to the mailbox, but the data is safe and it can receive email. Once it is enabled, it is back to normal.
    Delete Users: when the user is deleted all the services are removed and all data is erased. The user is deleted from our Active Directory. If you create a user with the same Name and Emial address again, no data or services are recovered.
    If you disable a user, the Active Directory object remains untouched together with the mailbox data and properties, but you will not be able to access any mailbox data.
    If you delete a user, the Active Directory object is removed together with all data and properties of the user.
