Can I still sync my iPhone to an older version of iTunes?

I updated my iPhone 3GS to OS X 5 using a work computer with iTunes.  However, all of my music is stored on my MacBook Pro at home which is still operating on OS X 10.4 Tiger and the older version of iTunes.  Will it enable me to upload music and then store it on the cloud?

I don't suppose there's a way to update to a later version (7.1.X) rather than all the way to 8.X.X?
I have a 4S, and have already had enough bad experiences with updating, and reading all the issues the 4S has with IOS 8, I'd rather not.
I'm 99% sure my next phone will be Android.
How many times do you need to hear no? Any what issues are you hearing and from where? Many millions are having no issues with iOS8.1.1  Don't let forums like this have an impact on your decision. Stay with the iOS you already have if you don't want 8 for some reason.

  • I can no longer sync my iPhone after updating to Lion and iTunes 10.4

My iPhone does not show up in the iTunes sidebar anymore. I'm running iOS 4.3.2. The iPhone does show on the display that it is charging up however.
Syncing used to work perfectly in Snow Leopard with the previous version of iTunes.
When i connect my iPhone to my other mac, (running Snow Leopard Server with an older version of iTunes) it is detected without any problems, so there must be something wrong with my Lion + iTunes 10.4 installation...?
Does anybody know what to do? Thanks

Completely compatable, I just upgraded my iPhone through it yesterday. But as these are the Lion Forums, you may be better places posting this in the iPhone Forums as well.

  • Can I still sync my iphone 4 in ios 7 to the latest itunes update?

Right now my iTunes and my laptop can't detect my device (iphone 4), so I'm wondering if installing the latest iTunes update is the case. And I'm also worried if I do that, it will only prevent me from syncing my iphone to my iTunes. Help anyone?

    Hi ..
    An iPhone 4 cannot be updated to iOS 8 >   Apple - iOS 8 - What’s New
iOS 7.1.2 is the latest version available for an iPhone 4.
If iTunes doesn't recognize the iPhone ...

  • Itunes synced my iphone to an older version?

I've hooked my iphone up to put some music on it to have it automatically synced by itunes. It has resulted in losing contacts, messages and put me back to an older version of ios!! What do I do to restore it to the way it was before it synced? I have tried looking for it in backup but the only backups listed are from March and just now!!

If you don't have a backup to work with simply restore unit as new.
Plugin into iTunes select iPhone on the left end side and go to summary pan and choose restore.
At the end when setting up the iPhone and asked to setup as new or restore from iTunes or iCloud backup, choose setup as new.
That should put you on the current iOS version 5.1.1
To be honest that is very wired since normally apple does not have any way to downgrade the iOS version, and if you try to restore form a backup from a different iOS versions that will bring the data but not the iOS.
    Any way try that...

  • Where can I download older versions of itunes?

Having recently update itunes for my Mac Mini to 8.0.2 it will not open, so I cannot play my music. I would like to reinstall an older version of iTunes does anyone know where I can download one?

    HI Hello,
Reinstalling an older version of iTunes on our Mac is not a good idea. Perhaps some easy maintenance suggestions will help.
Try running Disk Utility and Repairing Disk Permissions first. Launch Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities). Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot. Try to launch iTunes... if it still won't open..
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag this file from the Preferences folder: com.apple.itunes.plist to your Desktop. Try to launch iTunes. If iTunes launches successfully, then that .plist file is corrupted. Drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. You will have to reset your iTunes preferences but if deleting this file fixes the problem, then it's worth effort.
If you still have problems with iTunes, then perhaps an Archive and Install is in order. Back up all your important data/images/video/documents. When you are finished with the installation, at some point you will be prompted for an iTunes update. If you had good luck with 8.0.1, just don't go any farther with the updates for now.
If you need help with an Archive and Install, please post back.

  • Have an original iPhone 3G. Can you still sync iTunes (10.6) and Contacts after Lion install?

Have an original iPhone 3G. Can you still sync iTunes (10.6) and Contacts after Lion install?

An older iTunes will not open the library once used by a newer version.
iTunes 10.6.3 will work with iOS6 as long as the hardware doesn't post-date the release of 10.7  Use iTunes 10.6.3 on both machines.

    Hello,
Only option is upgrading your Mac's OSX, since Apple will not allow iOS to go backwards.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

  • My iTunes won't force quit and says it's still syncing my iPhone after hours of syncing.

My iTunes won't force quit and says it's still syncing my iPhone after hours of syncing. I had plugged in my iPhone 4S in the morning before I left for school, it synced almost completely, and then it got stuck on "Finishing Sync". I pulled my iPhone out because I had to leave to go to school, and iTunes is still stuck on "Finishing Sync". I tried force quitting and restarting but it's of no use. Now I can't use iTunes at all.

Scratch that, I TRIED to shut down but I guess iTunes overrided it because it still thinks it's syncing

  • Can not update iTunes because I have iMac with 10.5.8 . How I will sync my iphone 6.0 with an older version of iTunes on my iMac???? There is no update for the software of my iMac and no update for the iTunes.... So how can I sync????

Can not update iTunes because I have iMac with 10.5.8 . How I will sync my iphone 6.0 with an older version of iTunes on my iMac???? There is no update for the software of my iMac and no update for the iTunes.... So how can I sync????

    Requirements for iPhone 5:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
    iTunes 10.7 or later
The highest version of iTunes you can install is 10.6.3 which will not sync with the iPhone 5.

It's always a good idea to check the requirements before purchasing.
The person I spoke with at 1-800-MY-APPLE gave me totally different info...she said the iPhone 5 would in fact sync with the older version of iTunes and that I could restore from my previous iPhone 4 backup and also bring in my music that way.  Hmmm....
I'm inclined to go by the published specs, but now I have to jump thru a bunch of hoops I wasn't expecting to.

  • Can't seem to sync my iphone 4 running ios 7 with itunes 10.6 running on a mac running osx 10.5.8 What can I do to fix this?

can't seem to sync my iphone 4 running ios 7 with itunes 10.6 running on a mac running osx 10.5.8 What can I do to fix this? Is there an itunes update? or How can I return to the previous ios?

To sync an iOS 7 device you need to be running iTunes 11.1.1; iTunes 10.6 is way too old and won't work. You need to install iTunes 11.1.1, but to do that you need to be running at least Mac OS X 10.6.8.
So you need to do the following:
    1. Upgrade your Mac to at least OS X 10.6.8 (later preferably, but 10.6.8 at the miniumum).
        a. Check first to see if your model Mac can be upgraded, check that it has enough RAM and so forth (2GB at the least, more if possible).
        b. If you can't upgrade your Mac, or don't want to, then you will have to buy a new Mac with the latest version of OS X (currently 10.8.5, soon to become 10.9) and iTunes 11.1.1
    2. Install iTunes 11.1.1 on your newly upgraded Mac.
    3. Sync your iOS 7 iPhone with iTunes.

You need to install an ATT USA SIM card for a moment to Activate your iPhone. It does not need to be active SIM, but it has to be ATT.
You are correct, you said, "I understand that if i do a SW update the phone gets locked again to the original network (U.S in this case) and will not work in N.Z.
If you search the Web there are ways to Activate your iPhone without a SIM card, but these methods cannot be discussed on Apple Forums.
