Can I STOP my powerbook from automatically waking up when I open my display

Hey all,
Have spent literally hours trying to find this, but I'm at a loss. Perhaps somebody knows.
The latch on my powerbook 12" 867mhz PowerBook broke off. Now the display regularly opens a little bit, even though it's in a protective case.
Does anybody know of a way that I can disable it automatically waking up when I open the display?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Antonie!
Not knowing where you found that info, I don't know if that is a correct command.
And I would guess that it is referring to entering the Command sudo pmset lidwake 0, in Terminal, which can be started from the Utilities folder.
But, because of the fact that the procedure was poorly written, I would hesiate to follow the advice, unless another poster, with more knowledge than I, of Terminal commands, confirms it is valid.
"When I open System Profiler -> Hardware -> Power -> System Power Settings it says that for both AC and Battery use "Wake on clamshell open: yes". I'd love for it say "no". How do I do that?"
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver: Are there any setting in there that can be adjusted.
EDIT: I found a site that Better explains the Terminal Command, and how to execute it.

Any application that is open when you shut down will re-open when you restart unless you deselect this when shutting down/restarting:
Also check System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login items tab and make sure there's nothing listed there that you don't want launched.

how do i stop my programs from automatically popping up when i turn on the computer?

When you log out or shut down, there will be a checkbox that asks you if you want to reopen windows when you log in. Just uncheck this box. If that isn't it, you may have login items turned on. Go to System Preferences>Users and Groups and then under your name click the Login Itens tab. Make sure nothing is there.
If you want to stop windows from restoring when you open applications (so for example when you open Safari it doesn't open the 50 tab page you just had open when you quit) go to SystemPreferences>General and then hit the checkbox that says Close windows when quitting an application.

When I access Yahoo Mail through Firefox, as soon as Yahoo mail opens, my userid and password have already been entered. I do not want this to happen since other people use this computer. How can I stop this? this does not happen when I access through Internet Explorer.

It looks like your password is stored in the password manager. • In OS 10.7.5, after quitting on shutdown, how can I stop Firefox 23 from automatically opening on restart?

Before I shut down my computer, I quit all my open applications. This makes startup cleaner. But now, upon startup, Firefox 23 automatically opens...not Safari, not Mail, just new Firefox 23. This would seem to be the new default. Can I stop this behavior?

  • How to stop preview window from automatically getting focus when you move up/down the message list.

Since updating (my TB was a few versions old) to 31.2, the preview window automatically gets focus when I move up/down the message list. I'm assuming this is a new "feature". Is there a way to shut this off and leave the focus on the message list so I can navigate up/down like before?

You are referring to the 'Message Pane' which displays selected opened emails below the list of emails. It is not a 'preview'.
When you select an email by either using mouse to click on an email in the list or using the arrow keys to select emails up and down the list, you are selecting an email to open and read. That is why it is being opened in the Message Pane so that you can read it.
If you select an email in the list and then cllck anywhere else including in the Message Pane, then you will have moved focus away from the list and the strong highlight on email in list is reduced to paler highlight.
When you click on an email in the list, the email becomes highlighted, at this point you can use eg: arrow keys to move up and down the list.
If you are performing single left click on email in list and then do nothing else and the strong highlight auto changes to paler highlight.
Check you do not have a conflict with an addon by starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.
Help > select 'Restart with addons disabled'

  • How can I stop .jpg files from automatically being moved off my desktop to my user's Pictures folder?

When I put a picture file on my desktop (like a screenshot I want to email away), it is automatically whisked off into my user's Pictures folder.
How do I stop that annoying, unsolicited behaviour?
    thx,

The only 3d party apps are Hazel...
    And that's your problem!
    From the Hazel site's description:
Hazel watches whatever folders you tell it to, automatically organizing your files according to the rules you create.
Hazel, is a prefPane so you must have some rule (or it supplied the rule as a default) to put pictures (jpg's) from your Desktop (folder) into your Pictures folder.
Open your System Preferences and Hazel in there and either turn off Hazel or change or delete the appropriate rule covering this situation.

  • Can I stop the cursor from automatically making selections?

If I'm not quick enough to park my cursor in a "safe" place, it automatically selects whatever it lands on, sometimes so quickly the screen doesn't even finish filling before Safari leaps somewhere else, and then somewhere else again, and then ... I feel like I'm stuck in an out-of-control transporter! How can I force Safari to stay on the page I selected until I TELL it to go somewhere else? This random, manic leaping about is driving me nuts!

You can maintain the cursor (and the graph scales...) between defined boundaries programmatically, using an attribute node. Not a very elegant solution, since there is some quivering. See the example.vi.
Of course, if the user need to modify the scales (zoom in/out...), there will be some additional work ! :-)
    Hope this help.

  • SMF - How can you stop a service from automatically restarting

    Hi all,
The subject header says it all. Is there a way of doing this. My users do not want an application we have to restart automatically if the process dies.
    Cheers

Then what do you want? The default is 3 restarts before it goes into maintenance. You could change that to 0 probably.
Otherwise if you're going to manage it manually, perhaps you don't want it to be an SMF service in the first place. Just run a startup script instead.

  • How can I STOP the TABS from Automaticly Expanding to the right?

I don't like several new features.
    1) It is extremely difficult to tell which TAB belongs to the page I'm viewing. This causes me to constantly close the Wrong Page.
    2) When I do close a Tab, the remaining Tabs expand to fill the "Tab Bar" leaving No Blank Space.

    Hi,
You can try a different theme for Firefox that provides a greater contrast between the active and inactive tabs: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/themes/
Please note that some of the themes have a thinner tab bar and may diminish the height of the tab bar.
    or
You can try the add-on [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/ ColorfulTabs] without changing the theme. It has an option to [https://www.binaryturf.com/free-software/colorfultabs-for-firefox/colorfultabs-documentation-and-help/#3 fade the inactive tabs]. Please note that ColorfulTabs may have issues when used with other Firefox themes.
You can prevent filling the tab bar to an extent by using the '''Pin as App Tab''' feature. Right-click on a tab and choose '''Pin as App Tab'''. To unpin, right-click on the pinned tab and choose '''Unpin Tab'''.
