Can I stop "Switching Display to AV Out&quo

I have a Zen Vision:M 30GB, and received a docking station for Christmas. My docking station is is connected to an external set of speakers. When I dock my player, I receive the message "Switching Display to AV Out". The display then shuts off, but I can still hit the play button and play the current playlist. Of course I can't select a different playlist or manipulate the player in any way when the display is disabled, other than to advance to the next song. Is there a way I can disable "Switching Display to AV Out" so I can see (and use) the display on my player while it is docked?

You can disable Video Out in the player Video Settings under Systems menu.

  • How can I stop iCal displaying a timed event as an all day event?

Since updating to Lion and hence to Mountain Lion when I add a timed event in ical which continues past 04.00 the following morning it is displayed as an all day event covering both days. As I work shifts which involve night turns this is very annoying. It does not happen on iCal on my iPad.
I have tried adjusting settings for start time of day etc to no avail.

    Bruno,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Are you using any sync software?
The easiest thing to try is to refresh the the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart, and make sure the deletion preference is not checked.

  • Can't stop Thunderbolt display from flickering white lines after firmware update (Yosemite)

I am having serious issues after the Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2. Running Yosemite on MacBook Pro and I am now getting white lines that gradiate from the bottom to the top of my screen across multiple browsers, apps and even the finder window anytime I move my mouse. I cannot take a screenshot (it stops when I try) but I posted a video here:
    http://youtu.be/3zOKL1JFp5M
It is impossible to work this way and after 20 minutes of watching my screen constantly refresh anytime I move my mouse I am feeling nauseous.
Is there anyway to UNINSTALL this firmware update? I was not having this kind of problem before. Every once in awhile I was finding my Thunderbolt display would not wake up after sleep and I thought the firmware update would fix that, not cause more, crazier problems. It is causing this gradiating line problem on my Thunderbolt display AND my MacBook Pro screen, which is even more bizarre.

I updated and no issues with my 2012 Mini so may be computer related.  I believe once a firmware has been "burned" into the chip it cannot be redone.

  • How can I stop the display dimming when plugged into a powersupply. Cannot read playlist in car using music player.

My new ipod seems to dim after a short time, even when plugged into a power supply, unlike my previous ipod, which used to stay illuminated
when plugged into the car stereo and external power
Now in order to see the playlist I have to swipe or touch the home button, using the music player. However using  a GPS app, the screen stays
    fully illuminated......as it should!
Is this normal now for playing music?
Also, the new grey on white menu display for music is very hard to read in the car in bright daylight.......unlke the old white on black. Nothing I
can do about that sadly except complain to apple directly :-(

Hi Diavonex. Yes I was aware of this option.
Subsequently I have done a litle research and downloaded a music app called "Track 8" which has a much clearer interface (larger type) and the abillity to change the background colour to dark or light.
This is much more readable in the car in bright light, and much better at night too.
You can also turn off auto-lock within the application, which is great, as it doesn't affect other apps.
Although this app is really only an interface sitting on top of the music app, it offers a much better experience
in my opinion that the stock player which seems to have devolved rather than evolved.

  • How can one stop switching Desktops to a newly opened app?

If I am working on something, Chrome, Word, whatever, in one Desktop, and I start another app not to use immediately but to use in 5 minutes, it switches to that app's Desktop automatically, even if the app is not ready to use right away. I need to switch back. Earlier, I started Chrome, and it switched, so I switched back, then it switched again, so I switched back, then again. 3 times! How annoying is this. I am working in a different app, I dont need the new one in focus right away.
So wondered if anyone knows a way to stop this?
    Thanks

Note: I just found this which does stop it http://mactips.dwhoard.com/mactips/other-applications/spaces-auto-switching
defaults write com.apple.dock workspaces-auto-swoosh -boolean NO
BUT this also stops the Cmd + Tab application switcher which I use all the time!

  • How can I stop the last character of my password from being displayed?

Sorry, I'm sure this would have been asked before, but I couldn't locate it..
When unlocking my iPad, how can I stop it from displaying the last character of my password to everyone in the vicinity? This has got to be the fastest way to find out someone's password (just look at the screen as they type their 'secure' password!?). Having the iPad display your password letter by letter is really not acceptable when working in a non-secure environment.
Is there a setting somewhere, or will this be addressed in a new iOS, or just ignored as a 'that's the way it is'?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

    Hi,
This may have been the way it has been on iOS since 2008 (not sure about that though), however I know (based on working in the IT industry for 20 years) that nobody on this planet can successfully argue that it would be 'acceptable security practice', for me to display 'every last letter' as I type of a secure 'root' password on my screen every day when you log in... Nobody would think it acceptable to display even their LAN/Domain password on the screen in this same manner. So why is iOS different?!
iOS on a phone (it used to be argued) doesn't need to be very secure as it is almost entirely phone numbers and email addresses that are being stored. However in recent years when the applications got better, and tablets came out, security became a much bigger issue as more and more people started using the functions of 'smart' phones to store more 'sensitive' data.
    Kind regards,
    Andy
Are you suggesting that someone looking over your shoulder can't see the keys that you're tapping with your fingers? In the interest of security, i would never, under any circumstances, enter a password when others are around.

I tightened all HD screws and it didn't help. With the machine running and side of the case off, I physically stopped both the video card fan and the front case fan with my finger for a couple seconds and the noise continued. I also took all hard drives out one by one and rebooted each time. Again, the noise continued until I took out the Mac HD in Bay 1, rebooted, and I had a very quiet, silent machine. The issue is the hard drive in bay 1 that shipped with the computer, it's without a doubt causing the hum/woosh sound. I still need to know if I can safely swap the Mac HD from bay 1 to bay 4 without any issues to the operating system. I would like to try that to see if it dampens the noise but I also want to make sure this swap won't screw up my machine at all.

    Hello lynnettefromsk,
The article linked below details all of the locations that you may need to change your Apple ID. This process should not affect the state of anything on the device at the time.

How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when first opening the program to digitize new clips for a new project. It takes forever for it and is very annoying. I have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what would disable this problem.

You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

If my network connection goes out briefly due to a problem at my ISP, FireFox immediately opens a "diagnose network problems" page.
