Can i store my photos on icloud instead of my mac

I would like to send all my photos to the cloud to free up storage on my macbook air. Can I do this? How do I do this?

No.  The iCloud is not for storing files of any kind from the Mac.  The fill lowing if from this Apple document: iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview
What iCloud backs up
You have important information on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iCloud automatically backs up your device over Wi-Fi every day while it’s turned on, locked, and connected to a power source. With your device information backed up in iCloud, you can easily set up a new device or restore information on one you already have.
Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksYour iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. Some types of content aren’t downloaded automatically in all countries, and previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store. For more information, see the Apple Support article iTunes in the Cloud availability by country. Some types of content aren’t available in all countries. For more information, see the Apple Support article Which types of items can I buy in my country?.
Photos and videos in your Camera Roll
Device settings
App data
Home screen and app organization
iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages
Ringtones
Visual Voicemail
This will change somewhat with the release of Yosemite and the iCloud Drive.  But currently what you need to do is enable a local backup strategy to an HD connected directly to your Mac. There is no cloud backup available that can support an iPhoto Library package.  Regular files, yes but not iPhoto or Aperture libraries.

  • How can I 're-upload' photos to iCloud Photo Library Beta?

iCloud Photo Library a beta is set up to optimise iPad storage, but when trying to clean up my photo library, and opening photos to assess quality (which isn't feasible with the reduced resolution versions stored on my iPad) the full versions have downloaded and wiped out the storage capacity on my ipad!  I need to revert to to the 'minimised' version, but can't see how to do this.  Any help appreciated!

Are you really in a hurry to move your photos?
iCloud Photo Library is still a beta version. (See: iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ)  The Mac part has not yet been released, but all be available early next year. We do not know yet, what the Mac part of iCloud Photo Library will be like. The Photos.app for Mac will be able to upload to iCloud Photo Library.  If you simply wait till early next year, it will be the easiest transit. Then you will be able to migrate iPhoto Libraries and Aperture Libraries to Photos and store the photos in iCloud.
Right now, only iPad, iPhones, iPod Touches can upload to iCloud Photo Library Beta. And if you enable iCloud Photo Library Beta on your mobile devices, the usual ways to upload photos from your Mac will be disabled. It will no longer be possible to sync photos with iTunes, and you cannot upload using My Photo Stream. You would have to mail the photos to your mobile devices to upload them to  iCloud Photo Library Beta or use Dropbox or similar.

  • HT4890 can i backup my photos in iCloud? Like it was in idisk.

Can i backup my photos in iCloud? Like it was in idisk.

No, you cannot backup your photos like it was in iDisk. iCloud has no usual folder system like any other hard disk. iCloud uses its storage capacity for backups of photos and videos in the Camera Roll, Zdevice settings (for example: Phone, favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts), app data, home screen and app organization, messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones. That means other applications can use iCloud's storage space to store files, but there is no general folder system which you can access to store files.

  • How can I organize my photos in icloud by album as on my Mac? And, not just Collections/Events/Year?

How can I organize my photos in icloud by album as they are on my Mac in iphoto? I want to see more than just a sort by Collection/Event/year.

You'll need to wait for all these things to come out to beta testing for that kind if detailed help. But at the moment it seems that you make the Albums in your  Photos.app on the Mac or iOS device and these then turn up on the Library in the Cloud. I can see no way to create albums in a web browser, and iPhoto doesn't communicate with the Library.

What a crappy design. This is where Android is so much better. It seems to me like you have no control over your iPhone. It does whatever Apple has designed it to do without asking you first. On Android you can actually go in see all folders, document files, photo files etc and you have so much more control of everything. Apple s..cks!

  • HT201317 can you recover deleted photos in iCloud?

Can you recover deleted photos in iCloud?

If you mean photos removed from photo stream, unfortunately no.  If you mean photos deleted from your camera roll, they are supposed to be included in your iCloud backup (although unfortunately not all users report success in getting them back).  If you made a backup while these photos were still in your camera roll, you may get them back by restoring this backup to your phone.  (Note, restoring a backup will revert all settings and data on your phone to those contained in the backup, not just photos.)

  • HT1766 how can I view my photos in icloud from my laptop

How can I view my photos in icloud from my laptop?  Thanks

You cannot view then in iCloud.
Photos in iloud are only there for 30 days then they are deleted.
You need to regularly sync photos from iPhone/iCloud to your computer.
Sync them from iCloud to your laptop wiht iPhoto for Mac or -> iCloud Control Panel for Windows.

  • Can I back my photo to icloud, delete photos in my phone, and access my photos wirelessly when I need them?

can I back my photos to icloud, delete photos in my phone, and access my photos wirelessly when I need them?

No you cannot. once you delete them off your phone the only way you can view them wirelessly on your phone is by connecting your phone back to the computer and putting them back on your phone. Otherwise you cannot access them wirelessly.

Did you restore your iCloud backup?  That should recover camera roll photos.

  • How can I fine a photo on icloud that is deleted from my camera roll

How can I find a photo on icloud that is deleted from my camera roll

All photos captured or saved with the iPhone are stored in the Camera Roll which cannot be changed.
You can create an album to place photos in that are in the Camera Roll which does not duplicate the photo. It creates a pointer to the original photo stored in the Camera Roll. If the original is deleted from the Camera Roll, it will be removed from the album as well.
Import the photos from the Camera Roll with your computer as with any other digital camera followed by deleting the photos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. Create an album or albums for the imported photos on your computer followed by transferring the albums from your computer via the iTunes sync process which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

  • How can I sync specific photos from folders instead of syncing the whole folder to my iPad?(1 gen)

So I recently synced a few folders from my PC to my iPad 1 and there was a few photos I did not want on my iPad, so when I tapped the photo, the trash button wasn't there. I looked up why that was happening and discovered it was because synced photos can't be deleted from the photo library. So I ask my question, how can I sync specific photos from folders instead of the whole folder? from iTunes to my iPad. If there is not a way for me to sync specific photos from folders, how can I delete the photos I don't want from my iPad?

As King_Penguin has already explained, this isn't possible with the stock Photos app.
As far as photo syncing is concerned, I also recommend PhotoSync, which is an excellent photo (and video!) synchronization tool, should you want to stick with the stock Photos app on the iPad. Should you want something better (Photos is a pretty limited app without sorting, EXIF displaying etc. capabilities and with HUGE storage usage), you'll need to take a look at third-party apps. I too recommend Photo Manager Pro, it's IMHO the best tool. There's a complete roundup of image viewers for iOS at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/all-one-photo-viewer-roundup-70-price-drop-bes t-image-viewer ; you might want to read it.
