Can I store thousands of iPhoto pictures on icloud if I am willing to purchase more space?

We have several gig of pictures that we would like to keep a backup of in the iCloud so we could access them from any of our iOS devices. We have heard that there are limitations on the number of pictures and possibly the amount of time you could keep them in the cloud. We may be willing to purchase extra cloud storage since the 5 gb probably won't be enough. But we are wondering if iCloud is a good solution for us?

iCloud isn't a good solution for this.  It isn't designed for general file storage.  While you could add your photos to a shared stream and it would remain indefinitely, the photos would also likely be at a lower resolution than the originals (3.1-3.5 megapixels).
There are better cloud-based alternatives for this, such as the ones reviewed here on Roger Wilmut's site: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/missing/inicloud3.html.

Can I store and see my pictures and music from my iPhone or iPad?

The answer to this is NO.. with modifiers.
You can store your music and photos on the Time Capsule.. which I do presume is what you mean.
However the TC is not a media server.. it is a dumb as a board file device. And ipad and iphone are not files devices.. Apple has tried hard to remove that layer from you.. albeit you can buy a file browser app.
So iTunes must be running on the network in order for you to access your music or pictures..
Using the TC merely as hard disk storage area is not wise.. it was not designed to do it.. and for iphoto at least Apple says don't do it.
The way to share itunes and photos in the network is using home sharing.
How to share music and video with iTunes - Apple Support
There are heaps of articles on sharing on the apple website.. just google home share itunes.
Now you could put your itunes library on the TC but you would gain nothing.. a computer still must be turned on.. and it will be slow and not able to be included in the backups.
NOTE.. Apple says you will eventually corrupt iphoto if you put it on a network drive.. it must be local.

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • TS1702 trying to upload apps but it says not enough space can we purchase more space from ICloud or something or do we need to delete some things on the IPod to make more room?

we are trying to sync apps, music etc. to my IPod touch but it is saying there is not enough room to upload the apps etc. from our ITunes library on my PC.  Are we able to purchase more space for example on ICLOUD for more storage or do we need to delete some of the items so there is enough room for the things we really want.
Also, if we do need to delete some of the stuff now on IPod touch, how do I find out how much space is used up by each item so we can delete necessary items to make enough space?
    Thank you,
    Kellyfunpass

You need to delete some items from the iPod. After you install the app you can redownload then as storage space allows, by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
To download and install an app you need storage available equal to about three times the file download size.

  • Why can I not directly view iPhoto pictures from Finder?

When going into finder/Photos I cannot directly view my IPhoto's images. It displays the icon for iPhoto's to be opened so that the images can be viewed. Is there a way that the photos can be drectly displayed in finder, rather than launching the application?

    Yes but...
You can look inside the iPhoto Library easily enough but to what end?
Here's how: Right (or Control-) Click on the Library icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Now you can see inside. Your original photos, as imported from your camera, will be in the Masters folder (called the Originals folder in some versions).
But here's the thing:  Make no changes of any kind in this folder. Do not move, erase, delete, add or rename anything. If you do you risk significant dataloss
The innards of the iPhoto Library are like the engine of a car. There are no user-serviceable parts there. The inexperienced user will cause damage. The experienced user will not cause damage as s/he won't get involved there.
When you use iPhoto you are saying that you don't want to access your files via the Finder. iPhoto replaces the Finder for anything that you want to do with your photos. It works like this because iPhoto uses lots of virtualisation in its processes -  all non-destructive editors do.
So, why do you want to go in there?
To share a photo with some other app for editing?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
To share a photo by email/ upload to a website etc?

  • HT1338 Why am I getting a message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete" - v11, purchased and installed before Lion upgrade

I get the message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." This is a currently support iPhoto'11. Purchased and installed prior to OS X Lion upgrade. Was working, and now it is not. What might have happened? I saw  that Apple updated iPhoto in the App Store, but that is not where I purchased this. I tried Software Update, but it said all the software was up to date.
    Suggestions?

  • IPhoto Pictures to iCloud

I have 3 years of pictures on my iMac in iPhoto. I have never used iCloud. Can I join iCloud and put all my pictures in iCloud at one time?

When I try to put my pictures on iCloud it says I can either the last 18 months for the last 30 days something like that.
Where are you seeing this message, and how are you trying to put your pictures on iCloud? There are two ways to use photos with iCloud right now:
My Photo Stream:(see  iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ )  This let's you upload full resolution photos to iCloud, and other devices sync with these photos in iCloud. It is limited to 1000 photos, and only the photos added during the last month will be kept.
Shared Photo Streams:(see iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ)    Shared streams can hold more photos (up to 5000), and the photos will stay until you delete them. However, they will be reduced in size, and there is no way to organize them. They will appear in exactly the order you add them to the stream.
Both ways are designed to transfer photos, not as a long term storage.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I'm sorry, but you can't store videos in iCloud, unless you make them with iPhones, iPads and iPods touch, and you are backing them up in iCloud, but you can't do that in Mac because there aren't any video apps for Mac OS X which support iCloud
