Can I store video files (from digital camera) on my 30GB ipod?

I'm leaving next week for holidays and I am looking for a storage device. I don't want to take my laptop with me as it is my employers. I want to be able to store video files from my Sony DSC-W30 camera. Does anyone know if the camera connection will work for this?

Well in case anyone was wondering. It works. You can't view them but they are all there. It is an excellent way to have digital storage device on the road. It does eat into the battery charge quite a bit though. Make sure it is well charged before you import photo's and video's.

  • Can't open video file from security camera

I recently captured footage on my security camera of a hit-and-run driver sideswiping my car on the street in front of my house. I had the guy who installed my security cameras put it on a USB flash drive. However, it will not transfer to my iMac, which runs Mavericks. I got a message that said something like Windows files can't be opened in OS X. The file extension is .exe.
I really need this footage for evidence. Is there some way to save it without buying a Windows computer?

Ask the guy to provide it to you as a video file, not as a Windows self-extracting archive. If he's too incompetent to do that, you'll have to get a Windows-using friend, who's willing to risk a malware infection by running an unknown executable, to open it for you. Or else go to a local PC shop.

  • How can I access video file from sd card on ipad2?

How can I access video file from sd card on ipad2?

Your iPad 2 will see the video if:
It's in a DCIM folder on the top level of the card (which is how most cameras do it)
It's name is 8 characters, no more, no less (CKDI9483 for example)
It's a format that the iPad will play
I've made mp4's of things, folderized them right and named them 'right' and can transfer them to my iPad, so you can use a computer to make the files conform to what the iPad will see.

Turns out the answer to that question changes if you ask it more than 4 times, so ask it again....
The answer depends on the type of video files you want to convert.  If they are DRM protected commercial videos, no help can be given here.  Google.

  • Can hear but not view .mov files from digital camera

My daughter has a Samsung Digimax camera which takes video in MPEG-4 format (.mov). Since upgrading Quicktime, we can hear the video but not see it. The screen is black. I made sure I upgraded to the latest version of Quicktime (7.1.6). I have tried "Safe mode" as recommended in another post and I still get the audio but now the video is white. The movie info says "Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 320 x 240". We were able to view all her videos with no problems before the QT upgrade.

How big are the files? iPhoto won't import large files from your camera. As Larry says, move them to the desktop with Image Capture and import to iPhoto from there.

  • Can I move video files from Final Cut Pro to iMovie?

I've used iMovie forever, and I just bought Final Cut Pro.  I uploaded video for a new movie into FCP, but I have an urgent need to get this movie done and don't have time to learn Final Cut Pro to do it.  Can I move my video files from FCP over to iMovie 10.0.6?  Or do I need to reload the raw video to iMovie?

No you will have to import your clips again into iMovie 10.  Projects can only be transferred from iMovie 10 to FCPX and not the other way.

  • Loading a video file from my windows pc to my ipod touch 4

I received an MP4 video file from my daughter in Germany.  How do I transfer this file to my new IPOD Touch 4 so I can show it to people.  The file is loaded on my windows PC running VISTA.  The file is in format MP4.
    Thanks you for any assistance.

    Posted in iPad section.
    Plug the iPod in.
Once it mounts, drag the video file onto the iPod icon in iTunes and release.
If it doesn't transfer-you don't have manually manage music/video turned on.
Either turn it on or import the movie into iTunes.
Add the movie to your sync list, sync the iPod.

  • Can't Import large .avi file from digital camera into iPhoto 08

I have a digital camera with a 4GB SD card. I was shooting video and have several small .avi files on the card and one large .avi file (2.67 GB) on the same card. I did not have a problem importing the small files. iPhoto hung while trying to import the large file. I read in this forum that I should use Image Capture, which I tried. When I used Image Capture on the smaller files (just to see how it worked), my camera would flash while it was transferring. When I tried Image Capture on the large file, the camera did not flash and after about 20 minutes, there didn't seem to be anything going on with the transfer. I also tried an old card reader through Image Capture, and that didn't work either. Should Image Capture be able to handle this size file? Do you know of any way to break up the large file into smaller files on the SD card? What am I missing? Thanks!

Canon's cameras do not mount on the Desktop. It's a 'feature' of the brand.
There are several possibilities for Image Capture - including minor directory damage on the card etc. The only solution is get the card to mount, and that means a recent Card Reader.

  • I can't import image files from my camera to Photoshop Elements

My iMac recognizes my camera (a Canon Powershot S100 Digital Elph).  I know this because it automatically starts iPhoto and loads the images.  The problem is, I am sick and tired of iPhoto, and I want to use Photoshop Elements instead.   When I connect the camera to the iMac (via a USB port), I do NOT get a camera icon signifying a new volume or drive on my desktop.  So when I open Photoshop 4.0, I can't find the files to import.  I could allow the computer to import automatically into the iPhoto library, then manually drag the image files into a different directory for use by PSE, but that seems way too complicated.  Why should I have to do that?  Please help if you can.
    John

    I'm using OS X 10.4.11.
Maybe I didn't explain it very well.  Let me try again:
I would like to be able to connect my camera to the USB port of the iMac, turn on the camera, and then view the images from the camera memory on the screen using Bridge (the subroutine for file management in Photoshop Elements).  I have not been able to do that.
Instead, my iMac immediately displays the camera images by opening iPhoto.  There is no option in iPhoto for importing the images to anything other than the iPhoto library.  So I have to go find them there, copy them into the directory were I want them, and then erase them from the library (which is a little tricky by itself).  Then I can manage them in Elements/Bridge.
I thought when I bought Photoshop Elements that I would be able to open it and then tell it to import the images from my camera, into a directory of my choosing.  That would be less error-prone and a lot less work.

  • Iphoto 6 not importing all video's from digital camera

when I import my images and video's from my digital camera, it only imports the very short video's but not the long ones and I have to copy them manually, is there a setting in preferences I can change?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately not. This is a recognised problem with v6, and as v6 hasn't been updated since 2006 I wouldn't hold out much hope for a fix.

  • Can't import .mov files from my camera into iPhoto

I am not able to import .mov files from my kodak camera into iPhoto. It says the file is not readable. Also, if there are any photos after the video file, those are said to be unreadable too, even if I select just the photots for import. I tried to import the .mov file with image capture as well, and that gave me an import error also. I can view the file fine on my camera and iPhoto and image capture both will give me the properties of the video file but will not import. I have imported .miv files before with no trouble. I have tried several different files with the same results. Even tried different memory cards. Not sure how to get this file on my computer or why there is a problem all of the sudden.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
What model of Kodak is it?
There is a discussion thread on this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11942367&#11942367
Try using a media card reader (sometimes built into printers) to see if that allows the import. Others seem to report having luck by importing the movies off the card using a different computer, deleting them, and then importing the pictures.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can't import big files from my camera to the laptop

    hey guys.
i take movies with my digital camera, and so far all the movies shorter than 3 minutes long import without a problem, but anything above 5 minutes just refuses to get imported into iphoto. the "importing screen" will show, but after a long time it will just end and the movie will stay in the camera.
because i can't "see" the camera in Finder, there's no way to access the long movie files on the macbook.
    anyone have any ideas?
    thanks.
    Ronny.

well one way of taking out the large file is to read the camera like a hard drive, and mounting it to the desktop. this is done by changing the transfer settings in the camera itself, so that it reads like a SD card reader.
