Can I surf the web on my apple tv?

I purchased Apple TV.
It was my understanding that I could surf the web on my tv.
This seems not to be the case.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Unfortunately no, Apple TV does not "surf".  The ability to surf would be terrific and I do not know why Apple does not add a surfing feature.
I recently learned the "Remote" program on your iPhone or iPad allows you to type using your iPhone or iPad keypad to input your Apple TV.  The iPhone or iPad keypad is much quicker than "typing" using the remote supplied with the Apple TV.
Some of the "hacks" will add the ability to surf with the Apple TV but I would certainly prefer Apple adding the surf feature.
Are you listening Apple?

  • How can I surf the web using my apple tv (second gen)

I've owned my apple TV for over a month now, paired with my home/built windows 7 pc, but am amazed at how limited the ATV is compared to my ipad, and iphone. Is it possible to surf the net using the Apple tv on my big screen, or is it only capable of airplaying videos from safari?
does anyone know if apple is planning on adding any apps to ATV to expand its capabilities in the future?

    Fortunately, no it's not currently.

Nobody here will have any information about that here since the community is only made up of users like you or I. Anything else is mere speculation and speculation is not permitted here under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Any responses you may receive may well be removed and would be wholly unreliable in any case.

  • I have a 2009 Apple Mac Pro with no windows, can I surf the web on virgin media wifi

Can I surf the web on the Apple Mac Pro with out windows on Virgin media wifi

What are you asking? Are you saying you do not have Microsoft Windows on your computer? If so, Microsoft Windows is not needed to surf the Internet. Or, are you saying that the site you are surfing to requires Windows Internet Explorer which you do not have?
Rephrase your question being more specific as to your issue.

as in google or anything else?

Apple TV is not meant to be a computer, it is a media hub meant to stream your iTunes library, rent from their store and has services like Netflix and Youtube added. You can surf the web on your phone and project it onto your TV using AirPlay.

  • Macbook Pro 5,1 Internet & Server "failed" but can still surf the web

Hello! I know there are many discussions concerning this topic, and I have read many of them to fix the problem but no luck. I use a TimeCapsule Airport to connect wirelessly to my internet. I have two other laptops (one Macbook Pro and one Dell) that also can connect to the wireless. The TimeCapsule is connected to a router that's jacked into the wall, therefore my Airport Utility connects using automatic DHCP and assigns IP addresses within that router. My Network Diagnostics states that all of my network points are connected up until the Internet  and Server, both of which say "failed" (more explicitly: Airport, Airport Settings, Network Settings, and ISP are all green while Internet and Server are red). The same thing happens if I plug my ethernet cable into my macbook. My other devices connect to the internet just fine and the other Macbook shows all green for diagnostics.
With this, I am unable to connect to software updater, help, and various other server-requisite connections/programs. This ***** because my battery also requires a software update as the System Profile shows it as "Condition: Check Battery" and my Macbook is constantly crashing for no reason (fully charged, no warning) when it runs on battery.
I've restarted my router many times, unplugged all power/connection cables and nothing. I've reset my TimeCapsule and nothing. I'm at a loss! Can someone please help? Thanks!

I finally solved the problem by myself.
For anyone reading this thread and having similar issues, I quickly describe how I did it:
Basically, I changed totally nothing on either Soft- or Hardware side.
But what I did was disassemble my MBP, remove one of those 2 memory chips, un- and replugged the SSD, turned the system on with just one memory chip, let it run for a while (did some stress tests on the SSD that ususally lead to massive problems) and everything worked smooth.
At first I thought the one memory I removed was bad, but to my surprise the system continued to work stable after I put it in again.
Since 6 days my MBP runs smooth without any troubles like spinning wheels or whatsoever.
I've read many threads from other people having similiar issues with this configuration, coming up with a lot of ideas and workarounds.
Although this seems to be weird, I hope that it helps some of you facing the same weird behaviour.

    Hi,
You can't do this with the remote.
You can do this with a wireless mouse and keyboard

  • Hello , I want to ask some question about ipads \  How powerful is the iPad?  How useful is it for reading books, newspaper or magazines or for surfing the web? Can you identify any shortcomings of the device?   please help me :(

    Hello ,
I want to ask some question about ipads \
    How powerful is the iPad?
How useful is it for reading books, newspaper or magazines or for surfing the web?
Can you identify any shortcomings of the device?
    please help me

it's less powerful than your average computer. THink of it like a netbook but with a better processor.
It'll do fine for surfing (although if you browse a lot of flash based sites you will need to get a third party browser since safari doesn't accommodate it)
You may do OK on reading books, papers or magazines, especially if they have apps, but the ipad's screen is backlit, so it doesn't work well outdoors and you may need to fiddle with the brightness so that you don't get eye strain (it's just like doing too much reading from a computer screen)
I would say the biggest short comings are data transfer. Apple's preferred work flow is that everything is done via iTunes or the internet....well people dont' always have 100% reliable always on internet access so you can find yourself in a situation where you can't get things on/off the iPad.
By and large, it's a good device for day to day stuff, but is not a computer replacement.

  • When I try to open Safari, I get NCSW21 and that server can't be found. This happens everytime. I am using AirPort and have a strong internet signal. I have no problem opening Firefox and surfing the web. Only with the Safari page. Can anybody help.

    Hi Professor66,
I have a couple of suggestions for you regarding this issue. Here are two links to users who have posted similar questions to yours and have found their answers in the responses to their posts:

I would suggest that you first follow the troubleshooting that the OP did in the second link, which is to test in a new user account to see if the behavior is consistent. If it is, you may need to address the issue at a software level by re-installing Safari. More information on this process can be found in the following article:

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro and when surfing the web my computer will slow to a crawl and I will have a multi-colored spinning wheel visible until my latest request is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way to prevent this from occuring

I have a MacBook Pro.  When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl.  When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening?  Is there a setting that will prevent this?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Why can't I connect to my brother MFC-J4510DW printer wirelessly? The printer is connected to the router and I can surf the web. I wonder if some security setting may be keeping it from connecting to my MacBook Pro.

Why can't I connect to my brother MFC-J4510DW printer wirelessly? The printer is connected to the router.
I can surf the web. My wife can print from her PC wirelessly on it.
I wonder if some security setting may be keeping it from connecting to my MacBook Pro. I've installed the software, firmware and driver updates but
    it still shows "off line"
with the printer power on. Any suggestions?

All I can suggest right now is back up first the try to reset the printing system, (all printers in the list will be removed).
Then connect directly to the printer via ethernet or to the Mac using USB and restart the efforts you have made up until now.
As for router settings, it's possible but not likely that your router only allows a small number of clients. It's also posible that you have MAC address filtering on, lastly are you using the correct wireless protocol, (802.11a/b/g WEP or WPA etc)?

If anyone can help i would be hugely grateful, I'm literally pulling my hair out.
I bought the Airport express so i could surf the web and wireless play music through my stereo simultaneously. Can I do this? I've managed to play music wirelessly from my macbook to the express/stereo, however i cant surf the web because i can only presume i haven't set up the express to join my sky network.  So therefore the only way to surf the web at the moment is swap wireless devices from express back to my current sky network, then the airplay stops obviously.
I've tried to join the express to my sky network/netgear router, at face value it looks simple.  The sky network name automatically comes up and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using, then type in the password which i presume is the network key number on the back of the netgear router?  However its not connecting??  I am doing something wrong?
Can someone please give me some guidence on how to connect express to my current network?

and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using
Suggest that you ask Sky what type of wireless security that is used on the devices that they provide.
Once you have that information, you can choose the correct matching setting when you configure the AirPort Express to "join" the Sky wireless network.
The "password" would be the normal phrase that you use to connect to your wireless network at the present time.

  • How can I watch a movie while surfing the web?

I've been trying to figure out if there is any way to anchor the iTunes player so I can watch a movie while surfing the web. I've had no luck, Please tell me there is a way! =)

There are two ways I do this.
    1. I set the playback in preferences to play the video in a seperate wind. Then I size the browser window so I can see both at the same time.
    2. My prefered method is to play the movie on my extra monitor I use. That way I can run it full screen while working with a full screen browser.

My operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8 and when I'm surfing the web, it tells me I need to update my browser however when I check for updates, nothing comes up. What do I need to do to get Mac OS X Lion v10.7?

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Yosemite is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). Mountain Lion can be obtained the Online Apple Store. (Mavericks is no longer available.)
If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.
