Can I swap a HD from my G62 notebook into my G61 notebook?

Hi there,
My motherboard in my G62 notebook is friend. However the hard drive is good and is loaded with win8.1. I would like to swap this HD into my G61 notebook that is presently running win7. Are there any issues I should be aware of before doing this swap?
This question was solved.

Hi:
It depends on if the PC's have relatively the same hardware (processor and chipset).
If they do, most likely the drive will boot up.
Worst case scenario is you reinstall the operating system.
If the drive does boot up, you may have to reactivate Windows 8.1 since it will sense the new motherboard.

I have no idea what you mean by that. This is what you need:

Also, is your iPhone 3 carrier locked? If so, only a sim from the carrier your phone is locked to will work.

  • I can no longer open links from my email account into safari, how can I fix this?

I can no longer open links from my email account into safari, on my iphone 4.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • Can I swap G5 1.8 iMac SATA drive into a PM G5-1.8?

Looks like I've hit by the power issue. My iMac will boot up for about 20-30sec, spinning progress, then cut-out. Started happening out of the blue. Of course I hadn't backed up recently.
I have some important information on my iMac hard drive. Can I swap it into a PM G5-1.8 (SP)? If I can, that'll let me back it up. Then I can hand over my iMac to Apple so they can fix the problem.
    Any info appreciated.

From what I can read on the Power Mac specs, they are all serial ATA with the wiring set up to add another HD with just connecting the drive.
It is all here in the first section "Up to 800GB of Internal Storage."

  • How can I put my money from my iTunes account into an iTunes gift card

I purchase an $20 iTunes card and put the money in my ITunes account and brought what I needed now I would like to put the rest of the money back into the card so I can give it to my friend. My question is how can I transfer the money from my account into the iTunes gift card

You can't. Once any part of the balance has been spent, the remainder can't be put back onto the card or otherwise transferred to another person(aside from Apple itself) through any means.

  • I can't get my contacts from IPhone to go into my ICloud on my PC so that I can load into my IPad.  Any suggestions?

I can't get my contacts from my IPhone to upload into my iCloud on my PC so that I can load them into my IPad.  Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if you mean to say "back up" because a backup does not include contacts.  What you need to do is go to Settings>iCloud and turn on both icloud and contacts.  That should connect the phone to icloud and sync the contacts.

  • How can i get the images from a picture ring into a cell in Excel?

    Hi
I need to get the chosen image from a picture ring into a cell in a Excel worksheet. If i use an invoke node i only get to write a picture from file. How can i get the picture directly from the picture ring into Excel?
    Kenneth

No, there is no simple way of doing it directly. You need some clipboard manipulation which means you need to write some codes in excel as well. Importing the image through a file is much easier.

  • Can I restore a playlist from my iPhone back into iTunes?

My playlist disapeared from iTunes, but it is still in my iPhone.  Is there any way to restore my playlist from my iphone back into iTunes?

iTunes is designed to 'sync' onto iPods, NOT the other way 'round. In order to copy content from an iPod back onto a computer, it requires a third-party utility (if you Google 'iTunes alternatives' you'll see many possible options]. Most of them are free.

  • Can I swap hard drive from my Macbook (10.5.8) into Macbook Pro (10.6)?

I have a white Macbook from 2007 (model A1181, 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, OSX 10.5.8 installed) which I upgraded with a 500GB hard drive. I now have Macbook Pro (model A1278, 2.53GHz, 10.6 fresh install from disc, 250GB hdd).
I would like to swap the 500GB drive from the Macbook into the MBP so I can transfer over all my settings and apps. Will that upgrade work? If not, what's the best method to perform this upgrade so I can restore my system on the MBP? I use TimeMachine and SuperDuper to backup my Macbook if that matters. Thank for any input!

No, once you put the older MacBook drive in, if it even fits, you can't transfer to the new one because it's not physically in the MacBookPro anymore.
And the MacBookPro may not be able to read a 10.5 boot disk if it shipped with 10.6.
They are not backwards compatible when trying to boot from an older machines drive that probably doesn't have the correct drivers to run on a MacPro.
    First,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk in case you have some directory corruption.
Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job. Better, run DiskWarrior if you have it.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.
Then use Target Disk Mode and Migration Assistant to move settings and data.
Make sure all your apps. are 10.6 compatible. I would trash any plug ins also.
I followed this routine and had no troubles.

  • Can I swap hard drives from a 13.3" MBP and a 15" MBP?

    Hello,
I have a 13.3" MacBook Pro with a 500Gb HD in it. Tomorrow I'm upgrading to a 15" MacBook Pro. Can I just swap the HD's round? If I can't do that, whats the best way of moving the data?
    Thanks
    Mark

If the drives both have the same version of OS on them (ie, both are 10.6.2 for example) then I doubt you will have problems (though in some cases where different "builds" of the same OS version occur, difficulties can arise) . If the drive from the old computer has a newer version of the OS installed than the new computer (quite common to find if you update your OS software whenever new releases come out) then it will probably work without problems.
If the drive you are trying to install has an older version of the OS on it, though, it probably will not work at all, and, if it does, you are likely to have other problems along the way.
Other quirks can occur when doing this, however. You may find that you run into networking issues, for example, because after the swap, depending on how you have gone about dealing with account info etc., both your old and new Macs may have the same "network identity" for some purposes.
With two current model computers like yours simply using Migration assistant, with the computers connected either by a firewire cable or an ethernet cable, should probably work fine as an alternative.
    Cheers

  • Can i swap video cards from 1 w530 to another w530

I found the service manual and it doesn't have any instructions to do this i have 1 w530 with a 2gb gpu that has a failing fingerprint reader and the internal hard drive likes to disconnect.  I want to take the 2gb gpu from that, and put it into another w530 that everything works, but only has a 1gb gpu Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!
The GPU is soldered to the motherboard, it can't be swapped or removed. But you can of course swap the entired motherboard from one W530 to another.

  • Can I swap a HDD from a MacBook to a MBPro?

I currently have a unibody MacBook that I am thinking about donating to a new college student and buying myself a new MacBook Pro. I just put a 1TB HDD in my MacBook and would like to know if I could expect to just pop that into a new MacBook Pro and expect it to work? Otherwise I would have to migrate all my applications and data files which I know works pretty good but if I could just swap the HDD into the new MBP, that would be simpler. I intend to replace the removed hard drive with the original 250gb drive that was in the computer from Apple. Thoughts?

I would expect that to work fine, I've done it in the past even going from a G3 to a G4 Mac. You may get advice that it is better to re-install in the new machine and I wouldn't say that is wrong. Look at it this way; if you try the swap and it doesn't work, then you know you have to start over with the current drive in the new machine. I would have to believe you can't hurt anything by trying, I would expect your worst case to be the new machine won't boot with that drive, or it boots and runs into other issues, but nothing that would actually harm anything.
I would bet that it will likely work just fine.

  • Can you swap an SSD from a MacBook pro C2Duo to an MacBook pro unibody

I have a very trusty 17" MacBook pro core 2 duo that's due for an upgrade. Is it possible to swap my current SSD from my MBP C2D to my new 17" MacBook pro unibody? Im thinking there might be a problem with drivers? It will save me a lot of hassle trying to reinstall all of my pro apps particularly FCP. If it comes to it I'll have to do a fresh install.
    Thanks for any help

You have to install either the current OS that you were using on the new Mac or the version that Came on that new Mac when it was new. Not the OS that was on the drive when it was installed in the older Mac.
If Lion was the pre-installed OS on the new Mac that is what you have to install and there is only one way to do that. That is do use the Lion recovery system to Download Lion from the internet and then install it. Holding down the c key (or Command+c key) would do it.

  • Can I swap an HDD from A1226 into an A1150?

I have a friend with 2 older MBP with different parts either going or gone. The logic board on the A1226 is shot but the HDD and Optical drive are good(and just so happen to be bad on the other MBP A1150). I want to swap out the 2 drives into the A1150. I know I can swap them out easily,I've done it several times on my old MBP, but will the computer boot up as is ?

If the machine in which you are going to transplant this HDD requires Snow Leopard, then you cannot boot it with a Tiger system. However, the other way around will work fine.
Simply put you cannot use an OS X version earlier than the version of OS X that shipped with the computer when it was new.

  • Can I swap sim cards from an old iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4?

My current iPhone 4 is pretty beat up. My dad's, however, is in phenomenal condition. He actually just upgraded to the 4S and asked me to sell his 4 for him. What I want to do is sell mine and keep his. Is this just a matter of swapping sim cards?

Yes and no. Yes you can switch but the IEMI number is associated with the sim card and you will have some problems. I did this when I had to buy a new phone for my son. He had the 3GS and we just swapped the sim cards. Well his data wasn't working but a call to AT&T fixed the problem quickly after they changed the IEMI number in their system.
