Can I switch from Win to Mac and back to Win

I just bought 2 new Shuffle for my 2 children. I hooked it up to our Dell Windows PC. I have downloaded a few songs from a CD that are also on my Mac's at work. When we go on vacation, I will be taking my Mac Book Pro. Can I get the Shuffles to work with my MBP while on vacation and then restore to windows when we get back? If you can help, I'll buy you a car. Mark

Yes, the ipods will work with either a windows based or mac based computer.
However, and ipod shuffle will loose the music if linked to another library.
One way around this is to uncheck open itunes when this ipod is connected as posted by 0Ari0. But, this only works if you just want to charge the ipod.
If you are wanting to load more music as you are on vacation, you can always transfer your library to your MacBook.
This article will help if you wish to transfer the library from the Dell to the MacBook:

This works with an ipod or any external drive.
If there are other questions or if this does not help, you can contact Apple at 800-275-2273

I'm possibly wrong here but I suspect opening a brand new MBP to add parts yourself will void the warranty.  It is probably in the small print.  I certainly would not risk it for an expensive Apple product.
Some (Windows) laptops have easy access to memory and disk slots that do not necessitate taking the complete back cover off.  However, Apple does not make life easy for you.
However, if you are going for a 'used' machine it is probably worth a try.
Not possibly, definitely wrong, Ram and Hard Drive are considered user replaceable and will not void the warranty if changed.

I recently switched from PC to Mac and am able to find and transfer most of the larger files of music to iTunes, but there are about 750 songs that are held in sub-files that require me to dig in and transfer them one by one to iTunes.. I've tried transferring the parent folders, but it doesn't seem to work.  Does anyone know of a more efficient way of getting iTunes to dig into the subfolders and transfer the music without me having to go one by one?

There is a good general guide to switching from Windows to Mac at the following link that touches on moving music as well How to Move to a Mac - Get your stuff from your PC to your new Mac

  • Switching from PC to Mac, and lost my iTunes-purchased music!

When I switched from my old PC to my new Mac, the changeover was fairly smooth except that I no longer have access to the music I had downloaded from iTunes (or so it seems). I can see the downloaded music listed in my iTunes account, but it doesn't appear in iTunes or on my iPod. Is there a way to re-download the files or somehow regain access to these tracks without re-paying for them?

The policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and explain the circumstances to them, you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • Switched from PC to Mac and syncing iPhone issues

I switched from a PC to a Mac computer and now my iPhone 4th generation will no longer sync to iTunes.  Any suggestions?

Is you computer authorized for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the apps (in iTunes>Store>Authorize This Computer)?   Did you check "Sync Apps" on the apps tab of your iTunes sync settings and check the apps you want to sync?
For contacts, are you trying to sync your contacts with a supported program on your computer such as Outlook?  Did you check to do so on the Info tab of your iTune sync settings?  Caution: be sure not to sync with an empty contacts or calendar app or you will lose both.  Be sure there is at least one contact and one calendar event on your computer prior to syncing, which will trigger a merge or replace prompt when you sync (choose merge).

  • New user - switched from PC to Mac and can't figure out some mail issues

I looked at the software discussions and they didn't have one for something as simple as mail! I've also checked mail help and the online support and Switch 101 and Mac 101. All of them tell me I can do something but not how in very simple steps.
In the Apple store they were using all this fancy stationery for e-mail. Even my e-mail program looks different from the one in Mac 101.
I want to do 2 things. Use stationery and write those little "to-do" notes and I can't figure out how. On Mac 101 it shows a message and right below the address lines is a box with stationery menus, like birthdays, invitations etc. I don't have that box. I have the address lines and then jut the place where you write the e-mail. No stationery, no notes.
    Thanks,
    Susan

I am on a new message. There is no photo browser (I'd do a screen shot if I knew how but I only know how to do that on a PC).
On a new mail message (I went to file and clicked new message) I have the 3 dots in the left corner (to close, minimize, etc) and under that some icons (send, chat, attach, address colors, save as draft). The the To: line, the CC: line, the Subject: line and account line (next to the account line i have a drop down box to customize) Then the body of the e-mail that I type in. Thats it, no stationary, no photo browser.
Again my mail program is 2.1.1 and from my serching it seems that 3.0 is the latest mail program. I clicked the little apple in the left upper corner of my mail program and had it search for updates but it said there were none.
This is so frustrating to buy a new computer with old software. I'm guessing I have leopard but I have no idea how to see what version of the OS I have. Again I bought this thing on Friday, 3 days ago.

  • Switching from pc to mac and coffeecup to iweb

My eeepc has been a great little computer but after 2 years of heavy use I'm considering upgrading. The new macbooks looks like they might just fit the bill. I travel a lot and need something small. My first concern is the software I use to design my website. I'm using coffeecup visual site designer and there isn't a mac version. Will iweb be able to read what I have already published?
    Thanks, Sylvia

iWeb stores the website data in a package called a Domain.sites2 file. The application cannot import published files.
You can, however, rebuild your site fairly quickly in iWeb by copying and pasting the content from the published files.

  • How to fix switching from PC to Mac and not being able to deauthorize PC's?

I have recently changed all 5 of my home computers to only 3 Mac's. When I sold the PC I deauthorized them. However now that I have up graded my Mac to a newer version I am not able to play the music I had already purchased in iTunes. The message it gives me is that I can not deauthorize the computer until Feb of 2008. Is there a work around this? I would like to listen to my music.

  • How can I switch from the itunes store and go to my iphone/ipad section?

If I want to add or uncheck some music. etc..   Right now I have to close out itunes take off my iphone and plug it back in to get there.  Kind of a pain.  In other words when I am at the iphone console and click the store, I can not get back to the iphone console without closing and unplugging and plugging back in, real pain.  Old itunes never had this problem.

Click Done in the same spot you clicked to got to the store. Another option is to press Ctrl+S to show that sidebar and then the device will be listed like iTunes 10
    Hope that helps

  • Mouse vanishes after switching from X to TTYn and back

    Hello everyone
I am using Arch for almost two months now on my good ol' Dell Latitude labtop, and (comming from Slackware) I am quite satisfied with it. However, I discovered a little flaw somewhere in my configuration. I have absolutely no idea where the source could be: When I switch back to X from a TTY-Terminal my touch pad does not work anymore. I can still move the cursor with the track point, but I cannot press any button. When I then switch to the terminal I started X from, I can read the message: "(EE) AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad: Device has changed - disabling." When I restart X everything is just fine again. So, this is not really a problem, but an annoyance.
I could not find much in the web about it. Does anyone has some hints for me?
Thank you all very much in advance

  • I am switching to Apple macbook pro from Windows laptop.  Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?  How can I transport from Windows to Mac?  What I have saved on external hardrives, will I be able to open it on Mac?

I am switching to Apple macbook pro from Windows laptop.  Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?  How can I transport from Windows to Mac?  What I have saved on external hardrives, will I be able to open it on Mac?

Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?
Any computer is compatible as long as it can read and write Office files. But for perfect (or at least near perfect) compatibility, you would want to purchase Office 2011 for Mac.
How can I transport from Windows to Mac?
You can't directly transport any installation of Windows. All PC's come with a machine specific version of Windows intended for that PC. They don't have all of the hardware drivers the retail disks cover.
If you want Windows on your Mac, you would first purchase a full version copy (NOT an upgrade disk) of Windows 7 or 8. Those are the only supported versions on newer Macs. You install it through the supplied Boot Camp utility that comes with the Mac to create a new partition for Windows, and then install the retail copy of Windows you purchased.
The reason only these versions of Windows are supported is the same basic reason as a machine specific version of Windows for a PC. Apple only includes the necessary Mac hardware drivers for Win 7 or 8 on new Macs.
Once Windows is installed, you could then install the version of Office for Windows you already own. The nuisance of a Boot Camp partition is that you have to physically boot to either Windows or OS X, so you can only use the apps of the OS you're in at the time. To use both at once, you'd have to use virtual machine software (Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox) and then install Windows within that. Then you'd be able to run Windows inside of OS X and have access to both at the same time.

If you use the organizer, you need to buy the boxed version of PSE 12. You can usually find it at big box stores and online retailers for less than adobe's upgrade price, if you shop around. You need the boxed version because you get a serial  number that works on both platforms, and you will need to install PSE 12 in windows first, upgrade your catalog, then make a full backup to a removable drive and restore from that to the mac, after installing PSE 12 there.
If you don't use organizer, it doesn't matter.

Office for Mac, http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products, can open/edit/create Office documents. If your external drive is formatted NTFS then you can copy the Office documents to your computer and work on them. You won't be able to save the files back to your NTFS formatted drive. But you will be able to save the documents to your internal drive. You can move all the external files to your internal drive then format the external drive for Apple. Then you can copy the files back to your external drive for ongoing use.
