Can I sync iPod touch w/ iOS 4.1 w/ iTunes 9?

I updated to iTunes 10, and then updated my iPod touch to iOS 4.1. Can I switch back to iTunes 9, or will that mess up my iPod touch sync? I want to downgrade because I back up my music library to an external drive and share it with my older laptop, which is running 10.4 -- and you can't run iTunes 10 in OS 10.4.
Thanks for your help.

I have an iPod Touch 2G which I upgraded to 4.1 and I'm using iTunes 9.2.1 on OS 10.6 on my MacBook Pro...I hope this helps
I've been avoiding the iTunes 10...just been monitoring the dicussions to see if Apple finally fixes the problem, before I try to upgrade!

  • Sync iPod Touch 4th Gen to 2 different iTunes

Can you sync the same iPod Touch 4th gen to 2 different iTunes?
On my iMac early 2010 theres lots of songs I want on my iPod and on my Macbook Pro late 2011 theres photos I want on my iPod.

That means that you can connect the iPod other than your one syncing computer and copy music and videos from that computer's itunes library to your iPod.
The follows explans it but does not reflect iTunes 11 for exactly how to do it.
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers

  • Can't sync iPod Touch 4th Gen after updating to IOS 6.0

I've updated my 64GB iPod Touch 4th Gen to IOS 6.0, but now I can’t sync it with iTunes.
It connects OK, but iTunes isn’t detecting what is already there - it thinks it is full of 48MB of “Other” (rather than music, apps, photos, etc.). In other words iTunes isn’t detecting what is already on the iPod properly (it just knows it’s nearly full of something).
So if I try to sync, iTunes thinks it needs to add all my music, etc. again, and therefore says it’s way over capacity (i.e. 48MB of “other” + 48 MB of all my music, etc.).
    Help! Any suggestions?

    - Try resetting the car system if you can.
    Sometimes this works
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However. sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility. In that case you will have to wait for a firmware update to either the care system or the iPod.

  • Can't upgrade ipod touch to ios 5 beta 2?

Hi everyone! I recently tried to upgrade my firmware from ios 5 beta 1 to ios 5 beta 2 (I have a developer account, paid the $99 and everything).
The upgrade to beta 1 from 4.3.3 was pretty much flawless. When I tried to upgrade to ios 5 beta 2, it seemed to work until the last step, at which point the ipod touch was off and could not be turned on. When connected to a computer, it said it was stuck in recovery mode. I couldn't switch my firmware in Organizer any more, not even back to beta 1.
I restored down to 4.3.3 again cause I figured it would wipe the whole thing and let me upgrade back to beta 1 at least. That much worked, I have an ipod with 4.3.3 on it.
Now when I try to upgrade back UP to beta 2 or even beta 1 again, I get this error: "Could not allocate buffer (file exists)" and the ipod goes back into recovery mode, and I must again restore down to 4.3.3.
What file is this, how can I delete it, and how can I upgrade again to beta 2? This ought to be the last time I need to upgrade with a wired connection, since all updates from Beta 2 onwards are OTA as far as I know.
I was quite fearful of "bricking", but a friend who is far more familiar with the inner workings of the ipod touch than I am has assured me that since the computer detected it in recovery mode, it wasn't a lost cause.
I was originally attempting the install from a slightly older version of Xcode, which is probably the root cause of this problem and I am now kicking myself.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Can not update Ipod touch to IOS 5

I have a ipod touch 4th generation 32gb and I can not update my ipod to the new IOS 5 software. A error message keeps popping up saying that the network connection has timed out. I have tried various things to get rid of this problem restarting my laptop and also I have updated my itunes software to the newest one. Any help with this problem will be great cheers

    Two solutions:
    - Disable the computer's security software during the download and update.
    - Directly download and install the update using the instuctions here:

  • ITunes 8.1 Downloaded; Can't sync iPod Touch now!

Just a question to anyone out there who can possibly help me...
The other day I updated my iTunes software to 8.1, and now it won't sync my iPod touch at all. I've tried deleting and re-installing iTunes; I've tried resetting my iPod Touch; I've even tried downloading an earlier version of iTunes, but it says my library was created in a newer version and can't be used with an older version.
I've also read online on Google that others are having similar issues with their iPod Touches and iPhones.
Any suggestions? It's extremely frustrating knowing I can't add anything at all!

I have come to the conclusion that a simple uninstal does not remove all iTunes
you need to clear all files from Program Files ( apple tell you how to do this )
but you still have legion of references in Registry .
the only way to purge those is to manually remove ALL references to iTunes in the registry
That is the only way I have found to solve any and all problems with Itunes
Not what you want to hear no doubt

  • Can I sync ipod touch with more than one PC?

    Hi all
I'll go and buy a ipod touch 4G tomorrow or Thursday down my Apple store.
My problem is my home desktop PC that I normally use to sync music and apps is currently in pieces waiting for some new parts. So I'll use an old windows XP laptop to active the ipod touch when I get it.
My question is if I active the ipod with the laptop, can I also sync it with my desktop PC later on?
Or another way to ask the same question: is the ipod touch restricted to one computer or one itune account?
Thanks for your help guys and girls.

Thanks, one more question if you don't mind. If I activate the ipod through itune software installed on a remote hard drive and copy the itune folder from the hard drive to my PC later on. Do you still think the ipod which sync with contents on my PC?

  • 1st question: Can't Sync iPod touch 5th gen to another laptop, How do I sync it without loosing all of my music and info? 2nd question: How do I transfer a single onto the full album?

    I have two questions:
    1. When I first got an iPod touch (4th gen) I synced it (to start it up) on my mom's Mac Laptop. I finally got my own laptop and tryed to sync my music and info from my iPod to my ASUS laptop, but it said that the only way to do that was to clear all of my info. (I kinda forgot what it said my options were) but I am not sure what to do now. I want all of my stuff from my iPod on my laptop, but I don't want it to delete all of my stuff. Do I need to use a hard drive? Or download it another way other than syncing it?
    My second question was:
    2. I downloaded a single from iTunes before, but I ended up getting the full album later (CD) and downloaded it to my computer. Now I have two albums. One of them is just the single. And the other one is the whole album (other than the single). I want to put them together onto 1 album but I am not sure how to. How to I transfer the single onto the alum?
    Thank you

Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - For the album, right click on the songs and click on Get Info. Go to the Info tab. Change the track or disk number of the one song so it fits in with that of the other songs.

  • Can't update ipod touch to vers 4.0 with itunes 9.1.1

    Hi folks,
Itunes tells me that new software (vers. 4.0) is available for my ipod touch but when I click UPDATE it mistakenly informs me that my itunes software (9.1.1) is up to date. I want to update the ipod touch software NOT the itunes software. Anyone else have this problem? Solution?
    thanks for any help

Ok, to start with, iTunes version 9.1.1 cannot sync or work with iOS 4. You first have to download iTunes 9.2 in order to do so. If iTunes was wanting to download the latest version of itself, let it in order to upgrade to iOS 4. Or if it thinks it is the latest version, go to the Apple.com and download iTunes 9.2 . Once that's done, just download the iOS 4, sync it. And you're good. (warning, you may come into issues with the upgrade to iOS 4. just read one of my other posts that may solve it... or just keep trying till it works or contact Apple.) Hope this helped

  • Lost iTunes with Windows update, now I can't sync iPod Touch

My computer recently updated windows and I lost iTunes and my music library.  When I re-installed iTunes, I tried to sync my iPod but it's telling me that I am synced with another library and it wont let me transfer my music from my iPod to the music library.  It will only let me transfer purchased music.  Is there a way I can restore my old library or will I have to start fresh all over again?  It will not let me sync my iPod with my daughters either whether home-sharing is on or not.  I also tried home-sharing, it does nothing.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put verything back.
