Can I sync music from more than one mac?

With all my previous ipods, I had disabled all autosync options and I think turned on disk usage.
I could then plug into any of my macs and manually copy 1 song or a bunch of songs to my ipod.
I can't seem to do this with my iphone, I'm told "this iphone is synced to another itunes playlist, do you wish to erase this iphone and sync with this itunes library"
Is this pretty basic functionality possible with iphone?

Not possible at the moment

  • Can you download music from more than one computer?

My sister and I both have ipod minis and is there a way for me to download some of her music from her to computer to my ipod mini as well as from my own?

Set the iPod mini to manage music manually, and you can then transfer music to it from multiple computers.

iTunes Match is not sharable across Apple IDs. The best way to get the music on her iPad is to leave hers signed into her Apple ID on the iTunes Store and sync via USB.

  • HT204291 Can you send music to more than one airplay enabled speaker at the same time

I have just purchased an airplay enabled speaker which is great, I would like another in the kitchen so as you move from room to room you can listen to the same music but I am not sure if you can play the music through more than one speaker at a time ?

iOS devices and Apple TV's will only send the audio to one Airplay speaker at a time. However, iTunes on a computer will send audio to multiple Airplay speakers. With the help of Home Sharing and Apple's free Remote app on an iOS device you can control iTunes as well as the speakers connected to it.

  • Can you put music in more than one genre without creating a new genre?

My question is more specific than the subject. Is it possible to put albums and music in more than one genre category and not have it make a new genre in itself?
(I view my music as a list, column browser on top. Genre is the left-most category and I narrow down what I'm looking for from there, left to right.)
For example, I would like to have one album (Kundun) in both the "classical" genre category AND the "soundtrack" category. When I highlight the album and view the information("info") and at the bottom write "classical, soundtrack" in the genre drop down box, instead of listing the album in both classical and in soundtrack, iTunes instead creates an entirely new genre called "classical, soundtrack." This defeats the purpose, because it now separates it out from the rest of my classical music, or soundtrack music.
Is there a solution to get what I am looking for? The album shows up in the soundtrack genre, and can show up in the classical genre.
    Thanks.
    Running iTunes version 9.0.1

  • Can I tunes play music from more than one directory?

Can anyone tell me if its possible to store music files in more than one location, say my I Mac hard drive and also an external hard drive, and set I tunes to play fiels from both locations? This is possible with Windows Media player.

If you open iTunes and go to Preferences>Advanced>General you'll see a box "Copy files to iTunes Music when adding to library". If you have this box unchecked then anything you add to the library from say a music folder on your hard drive and another music folder on a second drive get added to the library but but remain in the original location. The library will contain the location information so the song file can be accessed when you want to play it. Of course this would mean that any songs located on the external drive could only be accessed when the drive was connected.

  • How can I synchronize safely from more than one computer?

First, I have set up my iPod to work with two computers: my primary computer, which is my desktop at home. Later, I also "authorized" my laptop (as a secondary source) to also be able sync to my iPod.
My question is that when I go to synchronize some podcasts I just downloaded to my secondary computer (my laptop), I get the following prompt: "Are you sure you want to sync podcasts? All existing podcsts on the iPod '<my iPod's name>' will be replaced with podcasts from your iTunes library."
From this message, since my iPod is plugged into my laptop, I assume it's referring to my iTunes library on my laptop (which only has the few podcasts I just downloaded). And it sounds like it's going to delete the podcasts that are already on my iPod.
I definitely don't want it to "replace" the ones I already have sync'd from my home computer; +_I just want to add the ones I have downloaded to my laptop._+ How can I make it so I can safely add the new ones without disturbing those I already have sync'd and want to keep? I'm a bit confused about how syncing works when you have more than one computer to sync to the iPod.

You cannot do what you want.
The ipod touch can sync with ONE computer/library at a time.
When you sync to a different computer/library, the ipod touch will first delete the current itunes content form the iphone, then it will sync the content from the new computer.
This is the way it is designed.

  • Why cant i sync music from more then one computer without having to erase the music already on my ipod??

I have music on my ipod and i want to add more music from a diffrent computer but everytime i try it tells me i have to erase all the music already on my ipod. ihave tried to do multiple things and it does not seem to work.

Yes, you can use the one that's not broken. It just doesn't have the same stuff as your iPod. So when you sync the content will be erased. If you have a backup, then you can save your iPod content. Anyway, those songs, apps and books you purchased from iTunes can be re-download free of charge.

  • Can you sync Ipad with more than one computer?

I am just curious, can I associate my Ipad with more than 1 computer.  I have a desktop and a laptop both with itunes and same library.  Can I sync the Ipad on both computers without it totally erasing the Ipad or should I only sync it on one computer?
Than kyou in advance for the help.

In theory - If the libraries are identical, yes it should work. Keeping the libraries identical might become a little challenging. You may want to make sure that you always manually transfer purchases whenever you sync to each computer to make sure that all content is always being transferred into each iTunes library and I would think that you would want to backup each time you sync as well. And you might want to sync with the one computer right after you sync with the other computer so that all of your data remains intact in the backups of both computers.
You can always check by giving it a try and see of you get the "this iPad have been synced to a different computer" message and see what happens. If the message pops up, just cancel and don't sync.
However, I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you absolutely have to for some reason.

  • Syncing iPhone with more than one Mac

Up to now I've synced my iPhone with just one of my Macs, the main desktop machine that sits at home. However, when I'm away from home for more than a few days I miss the ability to sync podcasts, applications and do backups.
Is there a way of syncing the phone with a second (or third) Mac without having to have the full iTunes library on those computers? I would like to be able to backup the phone, sync apps and podcasts. Music and videos do not matter as long as the sync doesn't wipe existing copies from the phone. Incidentally, I use MobileMe for syncing calendars and contacts, so that isn't an issue. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I think that without the steps in that 'minefield' the iPhone will detect a change of Mac and even if all the content is on the other Mac, it will all have to be re-loaded onto the phone. Probably not a good idea to keep the library remotely, I expect. But, copying the whole library may work - if you have the time, it's worth a try. Just sync the iPhone to your desktop machine first so the backup is updated, then copy over the library to the portable, then try syncing there. If it works, great. If not, you can Restore the iPhone from the desktop if you need to.

  • Sync iPhone on more than one mac and deleting app

Hello everyone,i have two mac, a laptop and a desktop that are in two different places and not connected to the same network, I would like my Iphone it synced automatically with the itunes of both and that my content was present equally in all 3 equipment: music and app. How can I do?
A second problem concerns the app: when I delete an app from the iphone is not deleted directly from the itunes mac and I must go among all the app hope to remember which one it is and delete it manually, is there a way to do that once deleted from iphone is also automatically delete on the mac itunes?
    Thanks in advance

You can't. By design, iPhone syncs or manually manages with one computer at a time. Each time you change computers, all iTunes content gets erased from your phone.

Sorry, no way to do that either.

  • Buying music from more than one music store

I have a slight twist on a topic that has appeared here before. I have an account with the US music store, but my company sent me to Tokyo for six months and got me a Japanese credit card (with a Japan billing address). I think I can now get an account with the Japan music store and yes? no? have it download to my existing library? i.e. have two accounts and buy from either store (with the appropriate account), download to one library and sync to my ipod with no problems? any thoughts?

I would think since you "qualify" with the address and CC that you should be able to purchase from either store. Give it a try. I can think the only confusion is that your Apple ID knows you as a USA Store customer who is now trying to purchase in the Japan store. You likely will have to change your info in the Account detail before purchasing in the other store.

  • Can I receive mail from more than one POP account in Mobile Me?

I have added a POP account on Mobile Me, but I'd like to add more. Is that possible?
    Message was edited by: Faasse

No. Only one POP3 account can be added at a time.
You could forward your second POP3 account to the 1st one that MobileMe picks up, if your email provider allows forwarding (most do).
By the way, the MobileMe forums are here: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116

I understand all the legal implications.... file sharing of music, videos,,,yada yada.... But, I have a G4 MDD at home and a G5 2X2.0 at the studio. I want to be able to sync my iphone to BOTH macs. I am a studio engineer, and when I am mixing I like to put my work in progress on my ipod/iphone to I can listen to it on the go. I dont want to lug around my old ipod just for this. I could sync my ipod to multiple macs, but not the iphone.
Does anyone know of a 3rd party app that will let me do this?

    Try this : http://tinyfish.net/2008/07/18/how-to-sync-iphone-with-multiple-computers/

  • Can Time Machine backups for more than one Mac be sent to the same external hard drive?

It's pretty straightforward, really.  We have two Macs, both running Mountain Lion.  Can we use the same external hard drive for Time Machine backups of both?

It would be best to partition the HDD - one volume for each Mac (you cannot partition a Time Capsule).
Note that by doing so, you will lose both backups should the drive fail.
