Can I sync my device (iPhone/iPad) to a new iTunes without losing my old apps?
My family and I have been sharing the same iTunes account for a while now. We have three iPhones and my iPad all using the same iTunes on our home desktop. I recently got my own Pro and want to creat my own itunes and sync my iPad and iPhone to it. I want to keep my three devices together and use iCloud only with my devices. Most of my apps are free so I know I can just download them again but I do have a few paid for apps like Pages that I do not want to lose and pay for again. Is there a way I can bring over my paid for apps to my new iTunes library???
If you are using the same account again, disable autosync in iTunes, set up your account, set up at least one contact and event on your Mac, to be able to merge data during the first sync.
Connect your device, right click on it in the device list and choose "backup". This will back up your device without syncing. Transfer your purchases the same way, to copy all bought media and apps to your new library.
The first sync will erase your device, but you can use the manual created backup to restore your settings and data again.

Don't forget to authorize the new computer as well. Launch iTunes and go to Store>Authorize this Computer.

1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Make sure that you move your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one as well for all of your music.

If you do not have a back up of the crashed hard drive you can download an app to copy from the iPhone to iTunes on the new hard drive.
I have used Pod2Mac. There is also Pod2PC.

I have the itunes home sharing set up. I have 2 different laptops, each with it's own iTunes on it, and each has it's own library. I have my iPad and iPhone synced to Laptop #1, but this laptop is old and I want to sync my devices to Laptop #2. I've used the home sharing to transfer the songs, videos, etc to move everything from the iTunes on Laptop #1 to the iTunes on Laptop #2. But when I connected my devices to Laptop #2, I got the message saying that my devices were synced to a different iTunes and they can only be synced with 1 iTunes at a time. It warned me if I synced to Laptop #2, I would lose the data on my device, and the data on the iTunes of Laptop #2 would be transferred.
I don't want to lose any of the data on my devices, but I want to sync to Laptop #2. How can I do this? Any help is appreciated, thanks!Hello again and sorry to bother you. I was hoping you could help me with iTunes 10.5. This update has been a pain. When I first installed it, my entire library was gone. Luckily, I saved the "iTunes Library" file before updating and copied it in place and my library appeared. When I click on the "Do you want to find the original file" I can find it in the appropriate folder. I checked the "Preferences" and under "Advanced" I re-mapped it to the appropriate location and already had the 2 boxes for iTunes organizing files checked. Then went to "File" and "Organize Library" and clicked the first check box and then got the "Copying Files" bar. When this was completed, I thought it would be able to find the original files. But I'm still getting the same error message about not being able to find the "original" files. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

No you don't. You log into iTunes with your Apple ID but you can use one Apple ID for iTunes and a different Apple ID for iCloud. On your device go:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and sign in with a new Apple ID
This will only change the Apple ID for iCloud and both devices will continue to download apps and backup to the shared iTunes account. -

Help...The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer. -

If you mean spreadsheets from within the Numbers app on your iPad to your computer's iTunes then there are instructions here. If you mean that you want to copy the Numbers app from the iPad to your computer then you can copy it to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases; but if you want to use Numbers on your Mac then you will need to buy the Mac OS X version.

The easiest way is to copy the iTunes folder from your old PC to your MB (put it in the Music folder as a subfolder), along with the other valuable data on the old PC. Or restore it from a backup of your old PC. Then authorize iTunes on the MB to the same account you had on the PC. When you sync it will warn you that your content will be deleted, but it will be replaced with the same content from the MB. Before syncing you should also make sure there is at least one entry in iCal and Address book on the MB (assuming you sync to Outlook or equivalent on the PC) to assure that your contacts and calendar entries will move over correctly.
Al alternative that is less effective is to connect the iPhone to the MB without syncing, and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the iTunes File menu. This willl copy purchases music, videos and apps, but not ripped tracks from the iPhone to the MB. -

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

My iphone just wont back up on my PC - and I've tried deleting the old backup on the Edit/Preferences tab in iTunes - in fact there is no backup for this device listed there at all.
Without being able to backup, my iphone can't sync, so i can't get music onto it - which was one of the whole blessed points of the bloomin investment.
