Can i sync my iphone with more than one itunes library without erasing content?

So i just got a replacement iphone yesterday, and restored from a backup all my contacts and stuff.
I dont have my own laptop so when it comes to music i get all of my mine from other computers...this has never been a problem with my phone or ipods, but i guess it is now...when i click on manually manage it says:
"An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
so i cannot go to a second device and take songs from them without erasing the ones from the previous comp.
they used to be able to authorized on up to 5 comps right? is this a new strict setting, or is there a way around it??
thanks

No. An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
Basically you'd want to get the music to the library first, then sync it to the phone after you get it set up in your library.  iTunes will not transfer songs off the phone that were not purchased through the iTunes store, so they need to be in your library beforehand. You might consult with the googles if there are other third party ways to do that.
The 5 compy authorization is for iTunes account authorization, which means transfering music bought through itunes, apps, etc.

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entries and import the local content you have on that box.

  • Can you sync an ipad to more than one itunes account?

I'm sure this question has been asked, I didn't see the answer. My girlfriend bought an ipad for both of us to use, I have an iphone, she does not, we both have separate itunes accounts, any way to sync both to the ipad?
    thx

Yes, you can have more than one account on the same computer, that makes sense, imagine you have kids and you like them to use their own accounts…
In iTunes check the menu "Store", sign out for your account an sign in with an other account.
If the two computers are in the same network, it is easy to transfer Music, Apps and so on from one to the other. After consolidating the libraries you can use "Authorize this Computer". I believe you can authorize up to fife computers with the same account…

  • Can I sync apple tv to more than one itunes libraries?

    Hi
I have two different itunes libraries on my laptop - one that connects to an external hard drive and the other that has my laptop's hard drive as the source. My default library for my appletv is the library that is synched with my external hard drive. But, I sometimes rent movies on my laptop, using my laptop itunes library and want to synch those with my apple tv. I can't figure out how to get it to find two different libraries. Is this possible??
    Thanks
    M

A rental movie is a bit different from files you buy. You can only watch it on the device it's on, you can't stream it. You would need to move it to your ATV first before you can watch it there, assuming it's in the iTunes library your ATV is synced with.

  • I can not sync my iPhone on more than one machine.

    Hi,
I got a Macbook in replacement of my Windows PC that failed on me . When I plugged my iPhone into my Mac, I couldn't sync the phone because it said 'Erase and Sync' which is something I WILL NOT be doing. So I followed the steps on another community board but it did not work. When I plugged my iPhone into my original PC (that is only just working), it still said erase and sync.
I cannot erase my iPhone. I have thousands of pictures and videos on there which I can not do anything with as I cannot sync them with my computer .
To be honest, I think Apple really has made a huge mistake here. You should at least be allowed to sync your own iPhone with your own computers. I'm sure theres clever enough people to make it so it will not sync unless the phone and both computers are on the same apple ID.
This really has me angry! I even tried contacting Apple directly and was told by the website that I couldn't for some stupid reason.
I don't know what to do. I cannot emphasise enough that I cannot erase my iPhone. I also have work stuff on it which cannot be deleted or removed.
    PLEASE HELP!
    ~ Lou

The syncing it is speaking of is only the content that came from your computer to your iPhone.  So, are these photos & videos ones that were taken with your iPhone, or are they ones that your synced form your computer to your iPhone?
For example:  I take a photo of my car with my iPhone (Photo #1).  Later that day, I use iTunes to sync a photo of my house over to my iPhone from my desktop PC. (Photo #2).  Later that evening, I connect my iPhone to my new laptop and iTunes tells me that message you saw.
Photo #1 would not be removed from my device.  It is not 'synced' content.  It is original content.
Photo #2 would be removed from my device.  It is synced content.
Synced photos & music are 'copies', they are not the original.  If you did not have a backup of the 'originals' from your old computer, then you cannot transfer those 'copies' back over to another computer.  In essence, you cannot use your iPhone as an 'external hard drive' to save data from your computer.

  • Can I sync ipod touch with more than one PC?

    Hi all
I'll go and buy a ipod touch 4G tomorrow or Thursday down my Apple store.
My problem is my home desktop PC that I normally use to sync music and apps is currently in pieces waiting for some new parts. So I'll use an old windows XP laptop to active the ipod touch when I get it.
My question is if I active the ipod with the laptop, can I also sync it with my desktop PC later on?
Or another way to ask the same question: is the ipod touch restricted to one computer or one itune account?
Thanks for your help guys and girls.

Thanks, one more question if you don't mind. If I activate the ipod through itune software installed on a remote hard drive and copy the itune folder from the hard drive to my PC later on. Do you still think the ipod which sync with contents on my PC?

  • HT1296 Can you sync your iPhone to more than one computer?  I.E. work computer and home computer?

I would like to know if it's posible to sync my iPhond 4S to my home computer and my office computer.

No. By design, iPhone syncs or manually manages iTunes content with one computer at a time.

  • Is it possible to sync an iPad with more than one iPhoto Library?

I just backed up my iPhoto library to an external hard-drive to create space on my iMac hard-drive. I then decided to copy and import part of the old library back into the new as I am not finished working with some pictures. The order that they show up is really erratic. I think it would just be easier to be able to sync using files from both libraries. Is this possible and if so how?

Thanks for the tip and more importantly taking the time! I never thought of looking in the App store, will do.
I really hate the way that the application iPhoto files jpegs. The same goes for iTunes!

  • Will syncing my iphone 3GS more than one time daily wear out the battery?

Will syncing my iPhone 3GS more than one time daily with Outlook 2007 wear out the battery? An Apple Care advisor said I should only sync it one time per week, but I need to do it daily as I use the calendars and notes for work.

    No.

Whoever you talked to has no idea what they are talking about. Ignore their advise.

I've only got one ID so I can't test but Winston says you can be signed into iTunes with multiple AppleIDs (i.e authorise iTunes for more than one ID content) at the same time, and that even different account content will stream so long as Home Sharing ID in iTunes matches AppleTV Home Sharing ID.

  • Can i use my ipod with more than one computer?

i synched my ipod with one computer, hooked it up to another and it says i can't sync with more than one library? it says i have to restore it but i dont want to delete my music off of my ipod, i just want to add the music from this other library

I have two different iPods and two computers. I regularly use either iPod on either computer.
First set the preferences so itunes will not automatically sync when ipod is connected.
Then connect the ipod and set itunes to manually manage music.
Drag and drop whatever content you want to the device showing on the left.
If this was the default setup, there wouldn't be all these posts about people losing all their music when they connect their ipod.
