Can I Tag Video Clips?

I imported into iMovie '11 (ver 10.0.2) digitized copies of old Super 8 film from the 1960s.
I'd like to tag the events to indicate
Location
Event type, e.g., vacation, birthday, etc.
People
Is there anyway to tag video clips?
Assuming there is, how do I search/select clips based on tags?
Thank you for your time and attention.

Sure.
Final Cut Pro X's keyword feature allows you to keyword an entire clip or only a portion of a clip, and also you can have multiple keywords per clip. So far, this is also how it works in iMovie 9.x. However, in Final Cut Pro X, when you add a keyword, it will automatically creates a keyword collection in your event of all clips with that keyword. You can also create custom smart collections.
This can make it very efficient to do editing. For example, let's say I have shot 10 interviews, and I want to edit together several answers to Question 1, several answers to Question 2, etc.  I would go through interview 1 and keyword each question, etc. Now, when I finish, I have a smart collection of all the responses to Question 1, etc, and I can easily choose the ones I want and add to the timeline.

  • How can i export video clips in iPhoto into iMovie?

how can i export video clips in iphoto into imovie?

    Hello andrewmarkp,
As long as the videos are in a format that can be used by iMovie, they will appear in your Event Browser, under 'iPhoto Videos.'
iMovie '11: Use video from your iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2196
If you’ve imported video from your digital camera into iPhoto, it appears automatically in your iMovie Event Library (as long as the video is in a compatible format).
To use iPhoto video in iMovie:
Click iPhoto Videos in the Event Library.
The videos appear in the Event browser on the right. You can select and use the video just as you would any other footage.
To learn about importing video into iPhoto, open iPhoto and choose Help > iPhoto Help.
    Cheers,

  • How can I capture video clips from you tube or my own DVD's

How can I capture video clips from my own DVD's or You Tube type of media, I am trying to create a presentation using Key Note

As long as you are using the clips with copyright permission (the organisation I work for has this for some distributers) try Wondershare (I am sure other converters are available). You can install an extension for Safari (I use FastestTube 2.2.9.3) to download from YouTube. However, please be aware that you could be breaking copyright laws when so doing.

  • Can I 'mute' video clips in iphoto

There is a slide beneath each clip which will mute when the clip is playing, but when it is then added to a Ken Burns slideshow the sound reappears.  How can I mute the clip without having to take it to iMovie?  Many thanks for any help

You've been to great places!  Like the slideshows. For your slideshow videos you can add the sound track in iMovie. Render the slideshow in iPhoto to a video file - without background music, and then add the sound track in iMovie.  If iPhoto added a soundtrack, use the "Detach Audio" command in iMovie to delete the audio from the clip.
Would you suggest Aperture would suit me!  I am willing to give it a go, but I do hate having to learn new programmes, hence my having held off from buying.  Really interested in your thoughts.
To use Aperture well, you would have to spend some time exploring the features.
The transition from iPhoto to Aperture is made easy, since both applications can share the photo libraries. You can switch back and forth between both programs and all edits done in one application will be visible in the other.
What you would get with Aperture:
More control when building the Aperture library. You have more views to browse the library; for example you could have more than one album or event open when browsing and can compare albums or events.
More access to metadata. You can display all EXIF and IPTC data with your photos and search for them in smart albums or searches, also create custom tags.
Hierarchical keyword  categories. You could define keywords "animal > bird > sparrow", and if you add the keyword sparrow, the image will automatically have the keywords "bird" and "animal" as well.
More control over the RAW development, if you are shooting RAW.
Better timezone handling. You can specify the timezone your camera has been set to, when you import your photos. That is very convenient for long distance travel and moving back and forth between time zones.
More advanced image adjustments. Many adjustments can be brushed in locally. You can lift adjustments from one image and stamp them on others, so all images will be adjusted in the same way.
Referenced images - you can have your Aperture library on one drive, and the original photos on other drives. This is convenient for growing photo libraries, that ill not fit on one drive. Aperture has tools to reconnect missing originals, also you can export partial libraries or merge libraries.  When I am traveling, I am starting a new Aperture library on my MacBook Pro, so I can get started with tagging the photos while I still remember, where the photos have been taken, and when I come home, I will merge the new library into my main aperture library.
Most important, if your workflow has repetitive elements, you can define presets for your most frequently used actions and apply them automatically to newly imported images.  I think it is a great tool, and do not regret to have switched my main libraries to Aperture, mainly because of the advanced options to keep my libraries organized.

  • Need help on how to a user can control a video clip using their mouse

    I need help. I've got a video clip of a rotating 3D
object(left to right) and i would like the user to be able to
control the rotation of the object using their mouse. I've looked
everywhere and i'm at a lost. Can anyone help me
Here is a link to what i'm trying to achieve:
    http://www.sun.com/servers/blades/6000/gallery/index.xml?p=1&s=2
I know they use Java but i'm sure this can be done in Flash.
    Thanks
    Ray

    Here are the instructions...
    Update firmware with DOS CD
To boot from CD you have to hold down the option key (<alt>) during startup. A HDD icon and a CD should appear on the gray screen. The HDD has the volume name written below and the CD is named Windows. Select the CD and boot to DOS.
Hit <ESC> to skip the README.TXT
Use PG UP/DOWN keys on an external keyboard to scroll through the readme, using arrow keys may lock DOS.
SeaFlash offers some options you should explore before performing the update. If you just want to do it ASAP then hit <D>.
Hit <L> to list compatible drives and FW version. (Column New FW version should state SD24, hit <ESC> to go back to main menu.)
Hit to scan your drive(s). (Shows your model and FW, <ESC> for main menu)
Finally hit <D> to update your Momentus XT to SD24. (takes about 15s to update)
    Power off your Mac.
-- Although it did made sense to what you are saying to just follow Seagate's instructions. But they only had instructions outside the realm of MS Windows is to burn it on a disk and run a cold boot to the disk drive. Otherwise if Seagate did provide detail instruction on how to install this then can you provide me a link?
    Thanks again....

  • How can I get video clips dated 12/29/10 and later do not show in view screen. (iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/OSX 10.6.8)

Pre 12/29/10 clips show fine in viewer window but anything more recent does not. Consequently, I don't have any way to work with them. I'm still on iMovie '08. Would upgrading to '11 help? My video clips were entered into iPhoto from a Canon still camera with the ability to take one minute video. The video format is labeled MVI (#) AVI in iPhoto. None of the video clips  run in iPhoto but they all run on my 1st generation iPad!
Can anyone help me with this problem? I'd like to do a movie of my grandson as well as our new puppy.
    Thanks, Ruth Sumner

You are only running on 2GB of RAM. IMHO 4GB woud be the minimum to realistically run Mavericks on, although the more the better.

  • Can not upload video clips from mini dvd

When I try to upload video clips from mini DVD recorded on Sony Handycam it stats the files are read only.  I have tried finalized and un-finalized clips.

    Thank you for the reply.
Although what I posted in my post numbered 2 is interesting and useful information in the Premiere Elements ripping of VOBs from DVD-VIDEO, it is not answering your issue regarding a "read only" issue and did not target your specific "read only" message. Sorry about that.
The VOBs are typically read only files on the disc.
I have never run into a "read only" issue with regard to the Premiere Elements 10 Windows 7 64 bit Add Media/"DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive"/Video Importer. For that matter, not with any version of Premiere Elements with this particular feature.
When are you getting this message.
    a. When you click on DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive after Get Media
    b. When you click on Get Media in the Video Importer or other
Do you ever get a thumbnail for the VTS_01_1.VOB in the Video Importer? Is your burner drive recognized in the Source field of the Video Importer?
If you open and explore the DVD disc, go to the VTS_01_1.VOB in the VIDEO-TS Folder, go to the VOB's properties, can you remove
the mark next to "read only" and then have the Video Importer route work for you?
Also, if you copy the  VTS_01_1.VOB from the opened DVD disc and paste it to the computer desktop and remove the "read only" marking, can you then import
the VTS_01_1.VOB into Premiere Elements with its Get Media/Files and Folders?

  • Can I put video clips back on my iPhone so iMovie project will work???

I spent ages making a video on the iMovie app on my phone. I then did an import of my photos into iPhoto and said delete photos not realising it would delete all my video clips too so now when i open my project on my phone there is nothing there and it took ages to make. Have I lost it forever? Can I somehow move the video clips it needs back on to my phone so it'll work again??
I'm really annoyed Apple doesn't separate photos and videos out when asking if you want to keep the photos you just imported. The answer was no, I didn't want to keep the photos, but I did want to keep the video clips.
Help, have I now got to start my project all over again on my iMac, because the clips are no longer on my phone??
before anyone says that its better on the iMac than the app, I know, however when you have a newborn baby and are constantly feeding them, it is much easier to do things on the phone! I created a lovely montage of the first 6 months of his life and it seems I wasted a lot of time and will have to start all over again unless someone has a magic solution?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You can upload some types of Excel spreadsheets to the cloud using the iWork feature on the iCloud.com website, by dragging and dropping from your computer desktop.
Once in the cloud, the document will be converted to a numbers document when opened on an iOS device, where you can make changes and save the document back to the cloud. When you come to require the document on your computer again, you will be able to download it from the iCloud.com website in one of three formats (numbers, Excel, PDF).

  • Can I play video clips that have been saved onto a thumbdrive on an iPad without saving the clips to the iPad first?

Is it possible to play video clips from a thumbdrive on my iPad without transferring them to my iPad first

    You can't.
Try uploading to Dropbox, Box.net or Sugarsync to play video.

  • Can't read video clip pixar

I bought 4 video clip on itunes when I was on Mac OS 10.3.9 and that run well. After that I install Mac OS 10.4.3 and I can't run the video I only have sounds. It's the same thing to preview video on Itines store
    Somebody could help me??
    Merci

    Bonjour Nello:
When you installed OS 10.4.3, did you do so via a clean install where you overwrote your entire hard drive and reinstalled software, as an upgrade or as an archive and install.
I am thinking that maybe you overwrote the most current version of iTunes (v.6.0.1), and the OS reinstalled a non-video enabled version.
Have you tried downloaded and installing the latest version of iTunes?

  • Can I pin video clips to a soundtrack?

Hi. I am making a short video of a band recording music. Is there a way to pin video clips to parts of the sound track? For instance, if there is a short guitar solo, highlight and choose a few seconds of this and force it to play in a certain part of the track timeline? Then choose other sequences, place them into gaps and continue to build from there?
If not, is this type of work flow a feature of say Final Cut?
    Thanks in advance. G.

In general, iMovie is video centric. You add video and it will adjoin the previous video or go between 2 previously added clips. Then you add the audio clips.
There is an important exception to this. It is called the beat marker feature.
You can add a music track. Then go to the the clip trimmer for the music track and add Beat Markers. Then you can add video clips that will snap to these beat markers. You must add the video clips in order.
Here is a good Tutorial on the Beat Marker Feature.
There is another way to do it if you do not know exactly which video clip you will choose for a certain location.
Under the Maps tab in iMovie 11, you will see some Placeholders. You can add these, and then later come back and add the real clip onto them. The real clip will be the same length as the placeholder.

Just use the plain linear fit!
(If you are discussing something you found in the forum, you should always include a link so we can see what you area talking about. What you probably found was a workaround that forces an intercept of zero for a special scenario. If you want to use general linear fit anyway, your matrix simply also needs a constant term)
If you still have problems, show us your code and some data.

  • Can I rotate video clips in iphoto?

    Hi;
I just finished taking a combination of photos and video clips for an event.  I downloaded them into iPhoto. I noticed when watching the slideshow of the event that some of the videos need to be rotated (I guess I took them in "portrait" not regular "landscape"). Also - I have one video clip where I must have rotated the camera mid-way through and need to rotate only the part of that video where it was "portrait".
Any ideas on how to do this in iPhoto? Must I do this in iMovie instead?

If you have Quicktime Pro 7 and Quicktime Player 7 you can rotate the movie. Like Larry I'm not familiar enough with iMovie to know if it can do that.
There may be 3rd party apps that can do it. Go to MacUpDate.com and search for "rotate movie" or other permutations to see what you find.
