Can I take my Time Capsule from the UAE to the US

I live in Dubai and just bought a Time Capsule. The cord is the standard 220v for the middle east and I am moving back to the US in a few months.

The Time Capsule will operate on 100-240 Volts and 50-60 Hz automatically, so it will work just about anywhere in the world, power wise.
You will need an adapter to allow the 220v plug to connect to the standard 110v AC wall sockets in the U.S., but a voltage converter is not needed.
If you do not want to use an adapter, you can buy a "figure of eight" power cord in the U.S. and not use the power cord with the 220v connector which came with your Time Capsule.
Wireless wise, insure that the Time Capsule is using wireless channels 1-11 to comply with the U.S. standards. You can do this easily using AirPort Utility, the application that is used to set up the Time Capsule.

can i unplug time capsule from the ethernet cable and still use it??

I have tried to extend that wireless line but as soon as i remove the LAN cable i have no internet connection anymore. So basically, does the TC get the signal wireless from the router??
The Time Capsule can wirelessly extend a wireless signal....but only if it is being provided by another Apple AirPort wireless router.
If the "main" rotuer there is not an Apple AirPort router,  you will need to connect to the network using a wired Ethernet connection.

  • Can I access the data on the time capsule from the Internet?

Can I access the data on the time capsule from the Internet?

You need to follow the BTMM via icloud instructions.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
There are plenty of other ways to do it.. but issues to do with Apple not using a dynamic DNS client so if your ISP does not allocate you a static public IP there is no way to find it, if the public ip rotates as they are designed to do hourly or daily.
Do a google search, remote access time capsule..
Or use the more like this on the right hand side... there are plenty of posts and even youtube video which go right through it.
BTW your school system may simply block the port.. if I was a school IT admin.. I would. You are dragging files across to the internal school network bypassing the firewall.. that is unacceptable risk to the whole school system.

  • Can I use 2 Time Capsules on the same network

Can I use 2 Time Capsules on the same network

Here is what I want to do. I currently have a time capsule used for one end of the house. Currently my 2 kids rooms are in an addition that I have run a cable from the time capsule to each of their rooms. If I want to give them wireless for that part of the house could I add another TC, for wireless and they can both backup their macbooks to that time capsule.
So Can I add a 2nd time capsule to extend by "N" network, or should I just go with an AP express or extreme and let them each have their own HD backup for each macbook?

Have bought many reconditioned (Refurb) product from Apple site and have always been happy with them. To date none have failed me and we have been Apple customers since 2006. With that said when you buy Refurbs make sure you know what model you are getting. The current TCs on the Apple site are last generation. The way to tell is to check the model number against the current one. Easy way to do this is to put both in the shopping cart and compare the model numbers. The Refurb model number is FB277LL/A and the new TC model is MB765LL/A. The first digits identify whether a Refurb or new, the rest should be the same if they are the same model number.
Before you buy, now which model number you want and then check other sites to compare prices. I recently purchased a new TC on Amazon for a better price then the Apple Store Site. For larger Refurb purchases like MBPs, we choose to buy directly from Apple; but for peripherals we often buy from OWC, Amazon, and other sites. Hope this helps.

  • Best way to access Time Capsule from the Internet?

I wanted to see if anyone knew of a program or setting I can use in order to access Time Capsule from the internet? I know that probably I will not be able to at this point access it directly, even though it is connected to the internet through my modem, but I do have a Mac at home that is connected to Time Capsule. Isn't their a way that I could connect to the Mac, but not through Back to My Mac, that would show Time Capsule as connected to it, so that way I could access the files? Any ideas would be appreciated.

It is possible to mount the TC as a network hard drive when outside your regular network.
    1) You will need to reconfigure your router to forward the ports used for AFP (by default 548) to the Time Capsule.
    2) Then when outside the network make sure Finder is active, press Apple+K to bring up the 'Connect To Server' dialog.
    3) Input the WAN IP address of the network to which the TC resides on.
    4) You will be asked for the password used to access TC.
    5) The TC should appear as a mounted drive.
It is then possible to access files on the TC as well as do a TM backup. To make life easier you can drag the mounted TC into your dock for easier access in the future.
However, it is obviously recommended to use a strong password to protect the TC (configurable using Airport Utility in the 'Disks/File Sharing' tab). You may also need to use a service like DynDNS if your network does not use a static IP address.
But I am using my home networks' Time Capsule successfully from the office.

  • Can I take a video clip from the web & put it in a keynote 5.3 presentation?

    Greetings,
hope someone understands keynote 5.3 better than I do.
Can I take a video clip from the web & put it in a keynote 5.3 presentation?
If so, could you give me a few tips on how to do it?
    Many thanks,
    Roger

Not all video from the web can be downloaded, the owner or the website may have prevented this.
I will not describe how to download as doing so may be illegal, but you can Google and read what is and not possible.
Once a file is downloaded legally, the file must be a Quicktime file, drag and drop the file onto a slide.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule from Windows

I have a time capsule that I have set up at work which works great with my laptop (MacBook Pro) at work. However, when I try to map the Time Capsule from home (Windows 7, not the same subnet), I cannot do so.
I have been able to ping it, as well as access the Time Capsule configuration page through the AirPort Utility that I have installed on my Windows machine at home (I do so by going to File...>Configure Other... and then log on). So I can communicate with it but I can't map it using the Windows "Map Network Drive" command.
    Any thoughts?

I figured it out. I had to change the Time Capsule to only allow File Sharing with Accounts. Then, using the "Map Network Drive" and \\ipaddressaccountname and - viola!

  • We traded our home internet service for a Sprint Hot Spot.  The hot spot does not have an ethernet port to connect through.  Can we connect our time capsule to the wireless hot spot?

Hello, we switched our home internet service from an ethernet modem to a wireless hot spot.
Do you know if there is a way to connect our time capsule to the hot spot?
Everything I read only suggests connecting through an ethernet cable.  I'm hoping there is a way to do this.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!!!

No you can't join a wireless hotspot with a Time Capsule directly via it's 'join' option (tried and failed - well to be exact it kinda works but the Time Capsule's ethernet ports no longer work).
What you can do is buy an airport express and use it's 'join' option to connect to the iPhone's hotspot. Then you connect the airport express via ethernet to the time capsule (in bridge-mode).
You can then connect your computers to the time capsule via ethernet or use it's wireless function to set up wireless network (with a different name to that of the hotspot) that your wifi stuff can connect to.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule from MBA

    Hi,
For some weeks I am facing an issue connecting to my Time Capsule. My setup is:
Time Capsule 802.11ac 3TB (the most recent one), running 7.7.2 (latest firmware), setup with Back To My Mac
Mac Book Air 13" Late 2010, running Mavericks 10.9.1, Airport Utility 6.3.2, setup with Back to My Mac
    iPhone 4S running iOS 7.0.4
Basically, I can't connect to the Time Capsule from my Mac Book Air:
Time Machine doesn't see it in the list of backup disks to choose from
Airport Utility on Mac Book Air doesn't find itHowever, it is listed under "Other Wi-Fi Devices / Remote Base Stations", from there I can configure it (i think this is thanks to the Back To My Mac settings)
Finder shows it in the left pane, and can connect to it
AirPort Utility for iOS on my iPhone sees it fine and can configure it with no issue
What I could get to work:
Choose "configure other" in Airport Utility File Menu, type IP address and passwd of the Time Capsule, and Airport Utiliy can configure it (but it still not displayed in the main screen)
After doing this once, the TC became available in Time Machine (seems to work, first backup ongoing...)
I tried rebooting, removing .plist files, even did a fresh Mavericks install on my Mac Book Air, same issue.
Any suggestions ? Is this an issue with Airport Utility ?

I think it more likely an issue with Mavericks networking.
    MOST IMPORTANT.
Do you have ipv6 set to link-local for the wireless client in the MBA??
This is now essential.. and automatic doesn't cut it. Set to the actual ipv6 requirement.
This is not unusual problem BTW..

For mavericks I would also ensure your TC has all naming that is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. That includes the TC itself plus the wireless.

  • Can i use 2 time capsule for the back of the same Mac computer, for improve the security of the data store

I will save my data in 2 time capsule at the same time for improve data security

Mountain Lion added this ability.. it doesn't do two backups at the same time but each time it backs up it uses the alternative location.
Under Lion you can manually set it to use a different target.. this isn't difficult but you must do it.

  • Can we use Time Machine to back up data on Time Capsule from the outside of network?

I have Time Capsule at home.  Can I use Time Machine to back up data of portable nootebook when I am working at office?

If you mean over the internet, you can but it will be so slow and more than likely so unreliable it is a poor method to use. Remember all internet is limited to upload speed.
Lion does a temporary backup onto local hard disk.. which is useless of course if the hard drive is damaged.. but helps if you delete an important file. Then when you go back home and it discovers the TC is available it will then backup again from where it left off.
I think it is only a major issue if you are away from home for major lengths of time, weeks or months.

  • Can I have two Time Capsules in the same network, use one as Time Machine and other to expand network?

I need to purchase a divice to expand my Wi-fi network. I was looking at the AirPort Extreme, but a friend has a brand new Time Capsule for sale. So, for the same price of the AirPort Extreme, I´m getting the Time Capsule.
I already own one and using it as Time Machine and wireless router. If I decide to purchase another TC would it have any conflict with the one that I already have?
Is it possible to use one as Time Machine and wireless router and the other to just expand network and storage only (not as Time Machine)?

If I decide to purchase another TC would it have any conflict with the one that I already have?
    No
Is it possible to use one as Time Machine and wireless router and the other to just expand network and storage only (not as Time Machine)?
Yes. The important thing to remember is that the "extending" Time Capsule must be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your "main" Time Capsule.

  • I can't see my time capsule in the finder menu

I just bowgth a new airport extreme time capsule 2T and it´s working fine with the wireles network but I can select it in the finder menu to use it as a back up disk. ¿why?

That's not the way of setting up your Time Capsule as a backup disk.
Instead, you need to set up Time Machine. Open System Preferences > Time Machine > Select Disk, choose your Time Capsule and your Mac will start making backups to your Time Capsule.
Also, are you sure you have bought an AirPort Time Capsule? Maybe you have bought an AirPort Extreme, and this one does not come with a hard drive, so you cannot see it in the Finder sidebar to copy files to it

  • Can I  use 2 Time Capsule with the same macbook?

I am commuting between 2 locations every 2 months
In one location I have a Time Capsule 1To working find
in the other location I want to install a second Time Capsule to have backup here.
Question is, when I will come back to the other location Macbook will recognize first Time capsule?
    Regards
    NG

I am using 2 TCs with my MBP. As far as I've been able to figure out, the macbook will not automatically detect and switch between time capsules. I manually switch backup location using the "change disk" in Time Machine Preferences.
I have no problems, but I am using one at work and one at home, so I am doing daily backups to each TC. I would guess that backups separated by 2 month intervals would take almost as much time as your initial backup depending on how many files have changed.
Also, you may want to check into accessing the TCs over the internet so you'd have access to the backups at the other locations. Maybe another app would be better since you don't have daily access to both TCs.
