Can I text on my iPad outside of the United States?

I currently own a iPad Mini. iPhone 4s & Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15inch. I have all 3 connected so I can reply to text messages on either device.. but I am going to go on vacation to Mexico and I plan not to take my iPhone because I dont have a international plan nor do I want one.. So if i leave my phone at home turned on can I still recieve text message on my iPad if I am connected to WiFi?

Yes. You most certainly can and it works well. The only thing to remember is that this is iMessage only and not normal text.

Just like wjosten said, Change the Password for your AppleID.
Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.
Click on Security and Password. It'll ask you two security questions that you orginal answered.
On the next page is where you can change the password, change it.
Now go to icloud.com and sign in, with the new password of course.
Go to Find My iPhone. Click on the iPhone 5s, even if it's off line.
Click on Lost Mode and enter a new 4 digit password. One that they won't be able to guess.
Now it's a paper weight.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

You should be able to switch stores but you cannot purchase without a billing address in that country.

I can see Canada…
I'll leave the others for someone in those countries, (no habla Espanol).

If you will not have Wi-Fi where you are staying, then you would have to set up international roaming with Verizon, and yes, it will cost more.

Unless you want that iPad permanently linked to your Apple ID, you really can't do what you're wanting to do.
if it's staying 'in the family' so to speak, then sure, set it up as new and keep using your old one. Your new one, if set up from the backup of the old one, will be a clone from the date of set up....so if you set it up now and gift it in December they will be different because all that you do on the 2 will not be reflected on the Air.

Sometimes the text fields automatically get locked. please check whether the fields are locked, if so unlock the text fields.
