Can i throw away my previous sysytem..?

..if i have just performed a re-install (whilst keeping using preferences and users). The previous system is occupying about 10GB on my hard drive.. so my question is this.. can i throw it away..? Will it harm anything..?
Thanks in adavance.
Shane

One more thing guys,
As it takes about 2/3 mins to boot up my Powerbook now (since i did the re-install and evicted some fonts too, ran Disk utility etc) would it make performance quicker if i upped my IGB memory to 1.5GB memory..? Or should i continue to evict more fonts (i currently have about 1,400 installed in Fontbook).

  • Does anyone know if I can SAFELY throw away the following items ?

This may be a stupid question, but here goes :
Can I throw away, I mean permanently, "ODBC Administrator" and "NetInfo Manager" utilities to clear up a little bit of space ? I have never used these.I DO NOT wanna screw everything up, so please do not reply "yes I can" unless you are 100% positive I can ... are these vitally important ?

On my computer those two programs take up less than a total of 1 MB of space. If you are that desperate for space you'd be a lot better off even throwing away a single music file!

  • Can I throw away the stuff in CrashReporter?

I have an older iMac running OS 10.9.5 (Maverick) it has a 3.06 GHz intel core i3 processor.
My husband has a new iMac that runs via WiFi. (Sorry, I don't have the details of his machine. It's in another room and not accessible right now) I know he's running Maverick as well.
Anyway, he's had some problems with an on-line stalker. He thinks she may have planted malware, or a beacon or something on his machine.
If that's true, I suspect mine is compromised too, since his is piggybacked on mine.
Is there anything he should look for and anywhere he should look, to find out if she has planted anything?
He was looking through the bowels of his and found some things that didn't make sense. He has something called AirDrop identified in his library, but no where else. Its not on mine, that I can find.
What we both found, is in Library- Application support- CrashReporter. One named "anonymousIdentifier_DAF(a string of alphanumerics).plist" has him worried.
Each thing in the folder is a document.
I've just always been told to never take anything out of Library.
Also, there are folders he doesn't have access to. (like com.apple.TCC). I told him that's because they are used by the system and if he messes with them he'll break something.
As you can guess, I'm not that savvy, but neither is he. I don't try to fix what isn't broken, he's not so tame.
He's already had to take his machine into the Apple store to be reconfigured twice. I'm just trying to get some good information for him before he breaks it again.

    Yes you can.
You can use JWindow to display a window

  • My iMac with Snow leopard 10.6.8 can't throw away trash

I get error(8003) and can't find that error anywhere, what does it mean? How do I fix it? This is waht it says; "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)."

Top hit was this. As far as I went.

In my dock there was this weird program called "tutorial". While throwing away this program I had to fill in my password. Afterwards I tried to change my password, but my old password doesn't work anymore. Who can help?

What was this program for, or did you just assume it's something you shouldn't have and therefore arbitrarily decide to "throw it away"? Exactly how did you supposedly throw it away?
If you didn't change your administrator password, there's no reason it shouldn't work now, so that suggests you did something else, or changed it and then forgot what it was.
You can't recover that password; you can only change it. To do that, you would need to boot from your Snow Leopard DVD, choose your language, then choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu in the top menu bar.

Hi, I have a little problem. I downloaded a malware called Mac Protector, for my fault, and now I finally have deleted that program but I cannot throw away the relative icons (in my display). How can I do?

  • Is the nano worth throwing away my old ipod mini?

I just bought a ipod mini 1 month before the nano came out. So now i'm feeling kinda ticked off as you can imagine.
The month that i did have an up to date ipod, i was enjouying it alot. In fact i currently have 200 songs on it and listen to them all frequently. So now the big question for me is if i should sell my current ipod mini so that i can buy a ipod nano.
Is the ipod nano worth it?

Yes. Throw away the Mini. Not literally; give it to a 7 year old just starting to appreciate music. Or, better yet, donate it to kids playing street hockey as it will glide better than a roll of electrical tape.
The nano is that good. It's that much of a breakthrough. It re-sets the bar for all portable electronics.
It boils down to light weight vs. capacity. If you can't listen to 4000 songs in a week, what's the point of carrying around an iBrick on the train, bus, or plane? Use iTunes, that's what it's for. It's there to be your library of all 4000 songs that you own. Once a week (or month) just dock the nano with iTunes and tweak your song choices a little bit.
It's like carrying around a carton of cigarettes when you can only smoke a pack a day. Lots of extra weight and complexity that can be eliminated when you can have a more simple device that can do a better job.
Ditch the Mini, grab a nano, and don't look back.

  • Can I get away with 150ppi?

    Hi,
Im designing a poster (A3). As I know 300ppi is the acceptable standard for high quality printing but Its not a simple task to find materials in that resolution. What you think…can I get away with 150 ppi instead? This poster is for educational proposes only.
    Thank
    S

150 ppi will not hold < 12 pt type very well. Of course a raster doc won't hold it well at all if you're printing to a low linescreen.
All answers depend on your exact printing process.
But if you can keep the elements in your design that should be vector (traditionally logos and type) as vector, then cheating to 150 ppi will be OK.
I would create your document at the highest image resolution and upsample files. No sense in throwing away info on the files that have it. Of course I don't have to upsample much as I never steal from the internet and retch high-quality images. So someone else might be able to speak to the advantage/disadvantage of this.

  • Just joined PS cloud (free trial), can it use actions saved previously in old CS3?

Hi, I’m just having a go at the Cloud based Photoshop, and I’m currently on the free trial version Please can someone let me know if I can use my ‘Actions’ previously saved in CS3? – and if so, how to do it? Also can the Cloud version access RAW files? – and from all cameras? I have had compatibility issue in the past with RAW files? And also (sorry for all the questions!) – does anyone know if the Cloud version is compatible with the Topaz plug–in filters? – can these still be added? Thanks in advance, emma

Save out your CS3 actions from the actions panel flyout menu. Then load them into CC the same way. You need to save out action sets; not individual actions.
You should do some test runs to make sure they work as intended. Minor differences in behavior between versions can easily throw actions off - especially since exact commands are recorded (not "intentions").
Raw file support is added to new ACR versions as new camera models are released. Each new camera model requires specific support, and updating to the ACR version that introduces such support.
Don't know about Topaz, you'll have to check on their website. Don't copy plugins over from old version, you must install a plugin version that is compatible with the Photoshop version.

  • How much code do you throw away?

Every now and then I have some slow time when I have punted everything to the testing team and I start looking at the next thing to attack. In these process I kick around ideas and implement them to see if they are any better then the current way of doing things. Some times I get 80% the way down the path and hit an unforeseen limitation. Other times when finished it is not as good or better enough to justify implementing over the current way. The worst is when I believe it is better but am unable to convince folks it is worth the effort. Occasionally time runs out and the idea withers on the vine.
I would say about 80% of these skunk work projects end up tossed out. Probably, only about 30 - 50% of the code gets tossed the bit bucket since inevitably a bunch of new stuff is learned that is useful.
How much code do y'all throw away, or am I an odd ball this way?

Great, I thought it had to be the way things needed to be done. I actually would change careers if I could not experiment it is what makes the job fun. Now for the second and more difficult part, how do you break it to someone when the idea and code they have been diligently working on for the past two weeks is an interesting idea and even cool to see work BUT it is an overly complicated way to solve a simple problem. They are already complaining that their solution should be used since they spent so much time on it and hate to have wasted it. They created their solution in a vacuum with out calling a meeting of the minds. The ultimate problem is that this is the second or third time in a row the idea will get shot down.
My favorite quote from him is "I don't know what this solves but it has to solve something I just need to find where to use it.", it's maddening.Turn it around so that the time wasn't wasted, after all. Which it probably wasn't anyway. Then just tell them it's overly complicated, show him why and show your simpler alternative. If he's too thin-skinned to accept the facts, it's about time he learnt. Or, just live with it. Or just replace it without asking, if your culture allows it. Where I am, we all own the codebase, there's absolutely nothing to stop someone doing that, and it happens all the time. It then puts the onus on the guy to justify his more complex solution. An upshot of that is often that one or other of the solutions is actually proven to be the better, for a previously unseen reason, usually ease of ongoing maintenance

  • HT4623 I have the iphone 3Gs but whatsapp is no longer functioning. Does this mean that soon I'll have to throw away this useless phone?

I have the iphone 3Gs and an old Powerbookb but whatsapp is no longer functioning. Does this mean that soon I'll have to throw away this useless phone?

If Whatsapp is on your iPhone now and is not working, that would be a matter for Whatsapp support.
If you cannot install Whatapp due to iOS on your computer being to old, you can try upgrading iTunes to 10.6.3, if you haven't done so already, presuming your PB is running Mac OS X 10.5.8, which may allow you to upgrade iOS on your iPhone. If your computer is not running 10.5, then you'll need to find a retail copy of 10.5 and upgrade.
The last PowerBook was discontinued seven years ago, though, so it may be time to consider upgrading to an Intel-based MacBook.

  • Why does Firefox Update throw away all customization?

Every time Firefox updates, it completely throws away all of the toolbar arrangements and other customizations I have worked hard to optimize.
If you want people to update for "security reasons," why do you muck around with my GUI?
I spend a lot of effort trying to get the buttons where I want them and I configured plenty of little hidden features in about:config so that the browser works right, all for nothing....
Guess I will have to reinstall the old version I had and totally start over, this time turning update to "Never check for updates" to avoid wasting my time in the future.
Sorry for being pissed off. I appreciate security updates, but there is no reason to force a funky GUI on everyone, and this really is a humongous waste of time needing to redo all of my settings yet again.

    Hey,
Sorry about this issue with GUI changes, I hadn't heard of it before :/ The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.
If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox ''Help'' menu and select ''Submit Feedback...'' or use [https://input.mozilla.org/feedback this link]. Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues. Hopefully they'll be able to do something about this.

Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:

RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella

    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
