Can I transfer a paid app from my iPad to my wife's iPad?

My wife has a new iPad for Christmas. Can I transfer the paid apps that I have on my iPad to my wife's iPad. Can I just open my account in the App Store on my wife's iPad and download a purchased app that would be listed in my account to my wife's iPad. Or does my wife have to have her iPad registered to my Apple ID and account? As yet she does not have an Apple ID has not yet registered her iPad with Apple. If we download a paid app I have purchased on my iPad onto her iPad does this automatically mean that her iPad is registered to my account and that this cannot be changed?

The obvious disadvantages to sharing an ID for everything is that you can't each backup to the same iCloud account, sync your own Notes, Reminders, Safari Bookmarks, etc. It's a little more work (but totally possible) in order to use FaceTIme and Messages with one Apple ID only. If you use an app like Pages, you will most likely not want to sync what she is syncing or keep the same documents on both iPads.
You can share an ID for purchases, but you can set up another Apple ID so that you can each use iCloud, Messages and FaceTime. You actually don't need another ID in order to both use Messages and FaceTime, but you will probably want your own iCloud accounts anyway, and you need a separate Apple ID for that.
This explains how you can add email addresses to use with FaceTime and Messages if you want to share one ID.

The 90 day ID lockout has no bearing on whether the apps will work or not work. Once you download an app to your iPad, it doesn't matter whose ID that you used to download the app, it will always work whether you are signed into that ID or not. Your wife does not have to be signed into your ID in order to use an app that was downloaded with your ID. After the 90 days are up, and she switches back to her own ID, the apps will still work no matter whose ID was used to download them. You are correct in that she will not be able to update the apps as long as she is signed into her own ID, but she can sign into your ID and update the apps that way.
The 90 day lockout policy is to prevent the dishonest users from giving apps, movies, music, etc to one another without paying for them again, not to prevent a husband and wife to share purchases or a parent and child to share content. Since the minimum age for an Apple ID is 13, young children have to share an ID with a parent or they wouldn't be able to download anything at all.

If you want to transfer app dat you need to restore the new iPod from the backup of the old iPod.  Restoring from backup will result in your new iPod being just like your old iPOd except you will have to reenter keychain items like passwords since those only get restore to the same device upon a restore.

  • How can i change a paid app from an Apple ID to other different Apple ID?

    Hello,
When i puchased my Ipad 2 i purchased a couple of paid apps for my little daugther, however due the damage she caused to my device, i decided to buy a new ipad.
I need to keep my Apple ID intact and thats why i have created a new one for my wife to be used with her apps and my little dauther apps.
My question is: How to change just a couple of paid apps from my account to the new account? Do i have to buy the apps again to use it trough the new Apple ID?
    Thank you

yes u do. there is no way to transfer apps to another apple id.
u can, however, keep the same apple id signed into the itunes/app section of every device and be able to keep ur apps. if u want wife and daughter to have different apple id's then just sign into those id's in the other places (like icloud settings) but leave urs signed into the itunes.
if u do that then it might be a good idea to put restrictions on the other devices to prevent ur daughter from being able to buy anything

  • How do I transfer a paid app from one iPad to another?

I am not sure where is the best place to post this question, but here it is anyway:
The school I work in has 37 iPads split between 2 mobile carts.  For a variety of reasons, the staff wands the iPads divided up by classroom.  No problem.  The problem is that they would like the paid apps on the ipads moved around so the grade level apps wind up in the appropriate classrooms.  This is logical.
My problem is I have no real idea how to free up iPads from one iPad so that they are available for transfer to another ipad.  I use Apple Configurator to acquire paid apps from the Volume Purchasing Program and download/install them initially to iPads.
One knowledgeable individual gave me this advice:
"If you placed the apps on the ipad using Apple Configurator, then you should be able to attach the initial iPad to AC, unsupervise the iPad, and the apps' licences should be available for redistribution.  Then connect iPad #2 to AC, turn Supervision on in AC, then add the specific app to iPad #2."
    - - - - That sounded too good to be true.  I tried it and found out that that process does not free up app licences (at lest when I tried it).  What I think is the problem is that I don't know Apple products and iOS well enough and missed steps.  (I am from the Netware/Microsoft AD/Windows computing environment.)
Could someone help an old grunt out and possibly provide a detailled set of steps how to transfer paid app licences from one iPad to another?  I appreciate any help.  Thanks
    iPad 2, iOS 8.1.3

    Hi Technician7,
It is true that you can "return" app licenses to Apple Configurator and redistribute that license to another iPad. The key is that both iPads must be "Supervised" in order to return the app license. See this from Apple:
    Removing apps from devices
If you use Apple Configurator to remove a redeemed VPP app from a supervised device, Apple Configurator marks the corresponding redemption code as available. It can be reassigned to a different device supervised by this copy of Apple Configurator for this Mac only. It is not available for redemption by other Macs or iOS devices.
If you unsupervise a supervised device, all apps will be removed from the device and the redemption codes used to install those apps will be marked available for reassignment. If you simply remove a device record from Apple Configurator, the redemption codes for any apps on that device will not be available for reassignment.
I hope this answers your question!

  • How can I transfer a purchased app from my laptop to my Mac Pro?

Okay, here's the problem: I always sync and backup my iPhone on my Mac Pro. However, I recently bought an app from iTunes on my laptop. Both my Mac Pro and my laptop are authorized for my account. However, when I plug my iPhone 4 into my laptop to add the app I purchased (in the usual way, by clicking on the App tab and dragging the newly purchased app into my iPhone home window), iTunes asks me if I really want to delete all of my other purchased apps (forty-something of them). Of course, I DON'T want to do that, but I can't figure out a way to transfer the purchased app from iTunes on my laptop to iTunes on my Mac Pro (where all my other apps live). I called Applecare, and they suggested that I copy all of the folders from my Mac Pro/Users/Me/Home/Library/iTunes/ folder to the matching folder on my laptop, which I did, but to no avail. Do I have to buy the app all over again (on my Mac Pro or directly on my iPhone)????
It just occurred to me that I might be able to back up my iPhone on my laptop in addition to my Mac Pro, after which I might be able to add the recently purchased app without a problem. But if the answer is so simple, why didn't the applecare person suggest this? Has anyone else run into this conundrum?

If you bought an app, if you try to buy it again it will just download the app again. You do not get double billed for the app. So you could down load the app again on your iphone or on your desktop. Alternatively you could use Home Sharing to sync purchased apps, movies, music between the computers. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 explains how to enable/use home sharing.
    I hope that helps

  • How can I transfer music and apps from 1 ipod to another?

My computer crashed and my 2 sons got new ipod toches 4th gen and all of their music and apps were on that computer. Is there anyway to transfer contents from their old ipod to their new one?

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • Can I retrieve a paid app that was lost when I restored my iPad?

The iPad was not available in my hometown, but lucked out and one was in stock out of state while traveling. I bought it and had it activated in the store so I could download apps and play on the 4 hour ride home. Problem was that now my iTunes would not recognize my iPad so I could not put any of my music on it. I restored my iPad and in doing so lost my paid app! Is there anyway to retrieve it? I have the email receipt that I purchased it, but for the life of me can't figure out how to get it back with out repurchasing it. I appreciate any suggestions.

Because it is not installed on your iPad.
If you are signed inot ht eiTunes store wioth the same account used to purcahse that app, click on Buy and it will tell you that you have already purcahsed it and ask if you want to redownload it.

How can I transfer a sound file from my "Voice Memos" app on my iPhone to my iPad?

In iTunes with your iPhone connected, click on the iPhone device, select the Apps tab, scroll down to the File Sharing section and pick an app that plays Quicktimes ("Files Connect" works in this example, but I'm open to suggestions of better apps for playing transferred Quicktimes) and drag your Quicktime from Finder to the Documents pane for the File Sharing app.   Once the file transfer is complete, go to the app on your iPhone to play the Quicktime.

  • How can I transfer all the apps purchased from one account to another?

    Good day,
I'm just wonderin' can I transfer all the apps purchased from my old account to a newer one?

No, apps (plus other content bought from Apple such as music and films) are tied to the account that bought / downloaded them and they can't be copied or transferred to a different account.

If you're using a first generation iPod touch, it is up to date. The higher iOS versions require a newer model.
