Can I transfer my windows 7 over to my new computer?

Alright, I've set up my new MacBook Pro and I didn't transfer everything over because I wanted to start fresh and all and only manually transfer over stuff instead of everything. Now my problem is that I want to transfer over my Windows 7 that I use with bootcamp. I would just reinstall it, but it was an upgrade so I'd have to load my copy of Windows Vista first, which, since I have the most recent Mac OS, that's not possible. Any suggestions on how to transfer over my Windows 7? Can I just copy over the partition? Or will that not work?
Thanks in advance!

Well you see Carolyn, I have the install disc for windows VISTA and the upgrade to 7, and while Microsoft will let me reinstall vista on my new computer, I cannot, so I am here trying to see if there is a work around that isn't overly complicated/back doorish.
If using Boot Camp, Windows needs to be installed on the new hardware, not transferred or copied. If your new hardware/operating system do not support Vista then you need to get a full Windows version that is supported and install that.
The simple work-around is to install your Vista in a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox rather than nstalling Windows using Boot Camp.

  • Can one transfer music to itunes from ipod on new computer

How does one transfer music from ipod to itunes on new computer?

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • HT1420 i recently had to buy a new home computer.  How can I transfer my iPad programs, etc to my new computer and synch with it?

I recently had to purchase a new home computer and lost all my hard drive data.  I want to transfer all my iPad data (contacts, files, etc) to my iTunes on this new computer.  The Synch process will erase all iPad data and replace with what is on this computer.  Is there a way to do what I want to do?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • HT201269 How can I transfer my old iTunes library to a new computer?

I just got a MacBook Pro and I'd like to be able to access the iTunes library from my old computer on it. I've tried Home Sharing but it doesn't allow me to transfer my old library to my new computer, it just allows me to listen to the songs from it. I'd like to be able to sync my iPhone with my current computer without the "Erase and Sync" message popping up. I've authorized my new computer to access my iPhone and I don't understand why I'm not allowed to transfer my old library to my new computer.

  • Can I transfer music from my i-pod to new computer?

I have just bought a new computer and was wondering if there was any way of transfering the music and video from my ipod to my computer as I really don't want to have to sit and put all of my cd's back on to my computer.

  • Can I transfer adobe acrobat from my old to new computer?

My licence for Adobe Acrobat9 was included when I bought my old laptop. I've got a new laptop and would like to run the software on this PC, (how) can I do this?

    Hi iws transfer,
What version of Windows does your new laptop have? See System requirements | Acrobat.com to see what versions of Windows Acrobat 9 supports. If your OS isn't listed here, you may be able to install and use Acrobat, but Adobe can't officially support the setup.
That said, you'll need your the installation media and your serial number. If you don't have the installation media, you can download Acrobat 9 Pro from this page:  Download Acrobat products | 9, 8    (Acrobat Standard isn't available for download.)
And here's some instructions for retrieving your serial number: Find your serial number quickly - Adobe

Thanks for your adivse. reg 2), how do I hack my apple TV?
Not really something that can be discussed here in detail.
Did you have Time Machine running? If so you may be able to pull back iTunes files.
    what is SSH? please adivse.
If you don't know I think hacking might prove daunting for you.
I've not hacked my AppleTVs so can't offer advice one way or another but I suggest you do not update your AppleTV to 2.2 yet, and you must not sync AppleTV to a new itunes library or it'll trash the exisiting content.
    Google 'AwkwardTV' and 'AppleTV hacks'.
Personally I'd say that your safest option is probably to dismantle the AppleTV and connect the internal drive to a Mac via a USB or Firewire enclosure then manually track down the files - copy them only and don't alter anything on the drive. This would of course void any warranty - depends how important that stuff on AppleTV is.
It also emphasises the importance of backing up stuff regularly though in practice we may not do so as often as we'd like.
    It also highlights two things:
1 - There really should be a method of accessing stuff from AppleTV by manual drag and drop. I really don't understand why they don't implement it as your kind of issue is very frequent and you'd really thank Apple if that feature were available.
2 - Currently AppleTV must not be regarded as external storage or a backup copy of iTunes files/photos. It is not designed to be a backup but with a little software enablement it could clearly to this. I suspect connection via USB would be frowned upon as people might try and access system files, but a 'rescue mode' via iTunes perhaps accessed via the diagnostics/system restore/reboot menu would be ideal.

My hard drive is dun. I'm get a new Mac. Can I put my music form my IPhone and iPod onto my new Mac.

    Hi,
With a single user activation license, you can install Acrobat on two machines.
If you want to install the software on third machine, then you might need to deactivate it from the old one.
If the hard disk has crashed, then please contact Adobe Customer Service as they would be able to help you out for the same.

  • My question is the my daughter has an ipod touch with alot of music and games on it, but the computer that had itunes in it and all the apps and music is now gone. How can I transfer all her games and music her new computer without loosing her stuff?

My daughter has an ipod touch with alot of games and music on it. The computer it was synced to is forever gone and on her new computer some of the games dont show up along with her music. She is worried if she connects it to her new computer all will be lost. Is there anyway for this to not happen? The ipod is on its last life due to a cracked screen, and as for the games she has spent money on them such as smurf village and others. When i looked at game center on my phone about less than half of that game showed up. Is there anyway to fix these things before its to late and eveything is gone forever?
    THANK YOU.
