i want to create a back up of my firefox profile folder which
is win xp and install it in linux on another computer

It is better not to copy a full profile folder with all files, but only copy the files that you really need to avoid problems.

I created a report in winXP on SCOTT schemas and I tried at home to reopen the report.
I receive an error like UNABLE TO OPEN .....REP-0110.
I tried these reports on another computer with WINXP and they perfectly worked.
Only win2000 has this problem? Can I solve this problem without installing WinXP?

there should be no difference, except if you reports versions on those two machines are different. have you tried the other way around, create a file on win2000 and try to open it on XP ? maybe the file gets corrupted during transfer or something.

Can I transfer a document created in Notes to another IOS device?

I've created several documents in the Notes app. Can I transfer these to another user/IOS device? I've looked in the file sharing area of iTunes, but don't see it there.

If it is not possible is it any substitute to email it, copy and then paste in Notes, or better still, paste it into another document type which is more versatile?

Is there a way to merge the bookmarks on my old pc to those on my new pc? (PS: I cannot login to old pc using old profile but can access the profiles folder.)

My user profile on my old laptop became corrupted and I cannot log into it using my regular (admin) account. I would like to add and merge the old firefox bookmarks to another laptop, which already has existing bookmarks. I cannot simply copy and paste the profile folder as this would overwrite my existing bookmarks and settings. Unfortunately I did not set up the Sync feature on that browser.

I assumed you knew, but I should specify, that you are looking for the most recent backup in your old profile's '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. The format changed recently, so the extension might be either .json or .jsonlz4 which is a compressed format so it may be much smaller than earlier backups. Firefox includes a count of the number of bookmarks in the file name (after the date).

Can not transfer/sync movies created on my 3Gs!

Here is my situtation. I am using the latest version of iTunes. All my music sync's no problem. I created a few video's on my 3Gs but they do not sync over to iTunes. How can I force the sync? Is there a setting that I need to look for to make sure all video's sync? Also, what is the name of the folder the video's are sync to?

The videos, like pictures taken with iphone are not synced. You import them as you would a picture from the digital camera.

I can not transfer a folder from my desk top with photos in it to my ipad.
This is the first time the ipad has been connected to this computer if that matters.

It sounds like you're trying to replace a home folder. Replace the contents of the folder instead, or use Migration Assistant.

How can I transfer Firefox profile from One user to another on my pc (win XP)

At work I'm using Firefox as my default browser.
In my company the IT administrator installed new system s/w on companys main server and changed the user names.
So now firefox lost all the information (profile) I already had on my pc.
Now in "C:\Documents and Settings\" folder I have 2 users.
One with the old user name and one with the new user name
Also I can not any longer login in my pc with the old user name because the administrator has changed also the domain name.
How can I transfer the profile I had (with lot's of usefull bookmarks etc) from the old user-name to the new user-name?

Sounds like boot sector corruption to me! I suggest you download Testdisk a product of CG Security. Use the latest version that is NOT beta. Boot the computer to a bootable CD such as Hiren's Boot CD. Run the DOS version. Do NOT write anything to the hard disk, such as a log! Do a deep search for lost partitions. When given the opportunity, look at files and folders. Finally, do a rebuild of the boot sector, and compare that to the current boot sector and backup sector. The write a verified version of the boot sector back to the hard disk. Note: Testdisk 6.11.3, under DOS, will show DELETED FILES IN RED. You can then OFFLOAD them to another drive or USB stick. Good luck.

NOTE: you can skip this 1st step.
Step 1
I'm on Win7 so the paths might be slightly different... C:\Users\(YOUR PC ACCOUNT)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bnelgkol.default\bookmarkbackups ... Find the "bookmarks-[DATE].json" you want and copy it to the profile you want. You may want to change the date to a name you will recognize.
Step 2
Then on your browser "Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks or Ctrl+Shift+B ". This will bring up the Bookmark Organizer, I think they call it Library now. From there click "Import & Back up>Restore" this will bring up a drop down with your back ups. If you followed step 1, find the json you added and select it. If you skipped step 1, from "Import & Back up>Restore" select "Choose File..." Then browser for the json you want to import. Which should be in a similar location as mentioned in step 1.
NOTE: "AppData" is a hidden folder, will have to set show hidden folders to be able to see it.

My mother's computer was infected with the new "Win 7 Total Security" virus (apparently a fake antivirus program) - corrupted real av. To remove, we followed online advice to delete everything in AppData, for all programs, plus some other stuff. We moved it all to a flashdrive for safety, but after successfully removing virus, likewise cleaned & reformatted flashdrive. This apparently deleted Firefox profile(s), and after uninstalling & reinstalling, Firefox still won't open - I can't create a new profile. With v 4.0, I get an error message about not being able to find the profile. Found advice on how to open profile manager, but it won't open. Found reference to version 4 dispensing with profile manager, so tried installing version 3.6 again; still won't open, still can't open profile manager, but now no error message at all.

THANX for the reply cor-el. I've never had a problem using just "firefox -p", but i did use the full path like you advised after i read the profile manager article here before i posted my question. Unfortunately it didn't work. I've backed up all 3 profiles from the "%appdata% profile" file, and also from my remaining main profile that i'm on right now. I decided i'm going to uninstall ff3.6.28 & upgrade to "firefox 11" this weekend and hopefully create the other 2 profiles along with my main one. I do like in the newer versions of FF the tabs on top like googles chrome because it gives you more room on the page. I also like some other features too, but the main reason i kept my old version both times is because the newer versions didn't seem to load pages any faster than version 3.6.28. I'm not going to worry about some themes/personas not being compatible with ff11. I'll find some new ones. I think when i tried "ff9" awhile back along with my current version, i just deleted the shortcut that the article said to create on the desktop and still had all 3 profiles & no problems like i have now. In case your curious, the article on how to create more than one version of firefox at the same time was on the site "Dottech.org>[How To] Tip: Install multiple versions of Firefox to test before upgrading to latest release". It works but i obviously did something different this time that caused this problem. THANX again for your time/help, i do appreciate it.

If you want to be able to view the book with iPhoto on the other Mac you'll have to copy the library containing the book to the other Mac. You won't be able to import that book into the other library.
Make a duplicate copy of the library containing the book and rename the folder "Book Library". Open it with iPhoto and delete all of the files that are not in the book. Then copy the Book Library folder to the other Mac and open. You can also burn the Book Library folder to a CD as a way to archive the book in case you decide to order another copy at a later date. I create a separate library for each book I create and order and archive it to CD when I've ordered.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. I can't find my bookmarks in my profile folder, what should they be named?

I have my user Library folder unhidden, and use the "show in finder" button under troubleshooting info. IT brings me to my profile folder but all I can find is the bookmark backup folder (.json) and not my actual bookmark file that I can use to transfer my bookmarks to a different browser. Anyone have any advice?

Maybe use the portable Firefox version on a USB stick if you want to prevent access to your profile.<br />
Solutions that use an extension can easily be bypassed by starting in [[Safe mode]].<br />
Otherwise you need to locate the Firefox profile folder on an encrypted drive.
