Can I transfer Video 8 to Hi8/Digital?

I was transfering all my old 8 mm cassettes filmed on predigital Sony camcorders to Hi8/Digital, but my Sony TRV120 started playing the tapes back all jerky, or with lots of noise and lines. The small amount of research I did made me think it would be cheaper to buy a camera from eBay rather than send mine in to get fixed, so I did so. But this camera (a Sony TRV 260) doesn't seem to read these older tapes at all, although it does fine with the Hi8 tapes. Did I just buy the wrong camera? I thought Sony's would read all these formats. Any ideas for a cheap solution of how to transfer my 8mm cassettes to computer?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Nancy - you were nearly on the right track, but......read this:
"This model is NOT backward compatible with old analogue Hi8 tapes. So, if you have some old footage from your old analogue camcorder that you want to dump into the computer, this is NOT the camera for you. I was told by the store that it would play them, but it doesn't. And Sony also agreed that it does not. That feature is not available until the 460. " Comment from an unhappy customer.
So you will have to sell your 260 and get the up-graded model - OR borrow someone else's (after all, once you have done your transferring you would be MUCH better off having a mini-DV camera (one that plays tape, NOT a DVD model!). A friendly camera store may be able to help, or even a camera club - is there one in your area?
Sorry that there isn't a cheaper and simpler solution!

  • Transfer video from a non digital camcorder

Wondering if there is any way to transfer video from my Hi8 camcorder to the Mac?

Just to add to the fine advice already posted above. The best way is to use a minidv camcorder with digital pass thru feature.
Or you can use a media converter as mentioned. Canopus makes some great converters.
Sony no longer makes these but you may be able to find a sony DA1 or DA2 on ebay if you are lucky.

  • I can not transfer video from my sony handycam DCR-HC36 to ivideo in imac

I can not transfer video from my sony handycam DCR-HC36 to ivideo in imac. Help!  THANK-YOU!!

Take both back to the salesman in the store and ask him to show you how it works, or, if he can't, then maybe you want to make an exchange or return. Unfortunately, it appears that the salesperson didn't look carefully enough at the camera specs to realize that the MacBook doesn't have the video input needed. You can capture the audio from the camera through the MacBook audio line-in, but that's about it.
You need some kind of USB TV/tuner input device that has the plugs needed to connect to the camera and import the video into the MacBook. Cameras with FW ports allow direct uploading of the digital video to the computer.
An external DVD drive that can load the miniDVD's in its tray is another possibility.

  • How can i transfer videos without losing the sound to my iPhone 3G?

    Hi
I have bought my iPhone 3G yesterday. I have found out how to transfer music from iTunes however i can't transfer videos. I'm selecting the videos i want to transfer on the videos tab after i chose my iphone from the side menu and pressing apply. iTunes says that its syncing my iphone but it doesnt transfer the videos.
Lately i have found out a function on the advanced menu for movies as "create iphone or ipod version". When i used that it transfered that video to my iPhone however the sound was completely lost besides that action takes too much time(around 10 mins for a 3 min video and i have a pretty strong computer).
How can i transfer videos without losing the sound to my iPhone 3G?

One thing I'd recommend is that you make sure the video/audio you're trying to transfer falls within the guidelines listed in the 'Video' section here:
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
What's most likely happening is that the file is not converted as such so when you try to transfer it, it's wanting to convert it but is unable to for any number of reasons.
There's software out there that might make this easier for you but I can't recommend anything specifically.

  • HT1535 how can I transfer videos from my itune library to my friend's ipod

how can I transfer videos that I've made at home, and that I converted so that I could play them on my ipod, which are now in my Itunes library, to my friend's ipod, without erasing all the stuff on his ipod?

Email the files to the friend to import to their iTunes library.
Copy the files to a flash drive to be imported to the iTunes library on their computer.
Burn the files to a CD/DVD.
Any of a variety of options that in no way involve connecting your friends iPod to your computer.

How can I transfer video taken with my iPhone to my iPad WITHOUT using a computer or iTunes? I'm going to Europe for a month and want to use my iPhone to take pics and video, then come back to the hotel room and use my iPad to edit/store each evening. I don't want to use my iPad to take the video...too large/bulky. And I WON'T have a computer with me...I purchased the iPad to take with me so I could use the RDC to my home computer and avoid taking my computer at all. Is this possible?

here is a cheaper solution than camera kit and a lot easier if you have WIFI available.
I use the PhotoSync APP (I think its a $1.99) will transfer videos and photos over WIFI to any other IOS device or even PC/MAC. Great app since I like doing video and photos on my IPHONE and transfer to IPAD2 without synching through computer or doing cloud based storage.
You can even send photos/videos from your MAC/PC to your IOS devices that way too. Makes it so much easier.

  • Can't transfer video out of iPhoto...

Hi- hope this is the correct place to post this- if not please re-direct me.  Thanks.
question: I can't transfer video file from iPhoto (9.5.1) to iMovie (10.0.4).  The video is 6 minutes and 465MB.  I tried to trim but that doesn't shorten actual file.  Any suggestions?  There seems to be a size limit.   Also- what's strange is that when I click "import" from iMovie,  I can't find any library of iPhoto events.  So, I tried to drag the file from iPhoto to iMovie (seems to work for smaller files) and that's when I discovered I couldn't drag this bigger one.  Thanks,
    Brad

Can you export the video to the desktop as kind = original and see if you can then import it to iMovie

How can I transfer videos in photo stream

You can't. They aren't stored in the photo stream.
HOWEVER! With third-party apps like PhotoSync ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photosync-wirelessly-transfers/id415850124?mt=8 ), you can easily back up / transfer your videos to / via Dropbox, Picasa/Google+, Facebook, SmugMug, 500px, Flickr, Box, Zenfolio, (S)FTP, WebDAV and Google Drive. (But, of course, NOT Apple's Photo Stream.)
