Can I turn Lightroom previews into jpgs?
I recently lost my original raw (CR2) files for a set of photos. They were imported and edited in lightroom 4.1. I still have the lightroom catalog but the photo previews are occompanied by the warning "The file name "#####.cr2" is offline or missing". I am aware they are missing, the only version of the photos I still have is the LR preview. I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to extract the image information in a lightroom preview and save it as a jpg. (Not including doing a screen capture of the preview).
If you don't mind the colors being off, then the Adobe solution John Beardy linked to above may suffice (no icc profile assigned means colors will usually be interpreted incorrectly).
If you want the colors to look right, then use PreviewExporter instead (proper icc profile assigned):

Can I turn greenscreen video into video with transparent background to overlay on another video in another program. probably export as avi. I know I can in after effects but comfortable with premiere. basically want to turn the greenscreen from a black to transparent background ppro cs6 windows
[ email address removed by forum host ]Harm is correct. It would be better to edit in the program where you keyed out the green. However, if you really must ...
DPX is one file per frame. While you may not be able to open it from Windows, it is only because Windwos has not been told to open them in Photoshop.
The whole point of the DPX file is to have a visually lossless storage of your frames that is designed to be used between applications (just what you want to do): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Picture_Exchange
However, if you prefer to use another option that you are more comfortable with, you can use PNG.
Or...
If you insist on a single video, use the Animation codec for Quicktime.
In any case, you need a picture format or video CODEC that can store an Alpha Channel.
Or.....
Export the video with the black and use a Luma key in the next application.
Or ...
Export the video with the black, and then export a video of just the alpha channel as a blabk and white image where black is transparent when used as a track matte, and then in the next application use the video of the alpha channel as a track matte.
Since you haven't said what the other application is or why you want to use it, we are having a little trouble offering a specific solution. -
Can I turn .wma files into mp3 (or something I can use in itunes)?

iTunes for Mac can't handle WMA files, iTunes for winsloth can.
if you have access to a PC, use iTunes there to convert the files. alternatively, you can get EasyWMA and use that app.
the files need to be unprotected in both cases.

If I get a 3GS, can I turn my iPhone into an iPod Touch?
I bought the original iPhone when it came out and I want to buy a 3GS when they are available. When I do, I'd like to use my old iPhone to run Remote to control iTunes running on my music server. Can I turn off the phone part of the iPhone but still have Wifi and run apps like Remote?
Hi,
Yes, you can use the original iPhone without a service plan.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406 provides more details.
Just leave the SIM that was last used with in the iPhone in it, so you can easily update and restore the iPhone.

Lightroom preview and JPG color difference.
I'm a Photographer. Using Windows Vista and a brand new Dell 24" HC LCD monitor. Freshly calibrated with a MonacoOPTIX calibration kit. The profile generated is my default monitor profile. After calibration, I looked at some of my past photographic work and the colors looked very saturated to me. And the images all looked a bit brighter as well. I was working in an uncalibrated environment before so I figured thats why my pictures looked different. I shoot in RAW (Canon) and I always (and still do) export all of my work as sRGB.
Yesterday I was working on a personal image and noticed my preview in Lightroom looks a bit different than the output in JPG. I verified my settings and I am outputting to sRGB. I'm expecting my preview and and the JPG to match almost exactly.
See the screenshot here: http://lifesharephoto.smugmug.com/photos/256400141_Qy7np-L-1.jpg
Notice the web version is much brighter and more staurated?
Why would that be?Lou, you are using a non-managed browser. No matter how much you calibrate, it will not show you correct color, even if you use sRGB. This is because your monitor's gamut will differ slightly from sRGB. IE7 is not color managed, even though Microsoft promised it would be a long time ago. Currently only Safari is color managed. Firefox 3.0 beta can color manage if you enable it in the settings. There is unfortunately nothing you can do about it and you have to realize that even if you do everything right, your audience will see different colors. They will all cluster around what you saw in Lightroom though and you should absolutely not trust your IE7 display, even if you calibrate. Only your monitor has that specific response. Other people will see more saturated greens, or more saturated blues, or the opposite. There is no predicting. It will all cluster more or less around sRGB though.

How can I turn mac mini into wifi access point for iPhone?
Hi,
I do not have a wifi router.
I want my iPhone to be able to use my broadband internet instead of the slow EDGE internet.
The simple solution would be to buy a wifi router whih would enable my iPhone to access the wifi home network.
*What if I could turn the mac mini into a wifi access point?* That would save me from the hassle of buying a wifi router.
Any idea how to do this??

I think I am doing something wrong. I am doing something wrong in this setting *from ethernet to airport*.
see attached screenshot.
To start Internet sharing on a computer using Mac OS X:
1. Open System Preferences, click Sharing, and then click Internet.
2. Select how you would like to share your Internet connection, and then click Start. You
can choose to share your Internet connection with AirPort-enabled computers,
computers with built-in Ethernet, or both.
Note:
If your Internet connection and your local network use the same port (built-in
Ethernet, for example), contact your ISP before you turn on Internet sharing. In some
cases (if you use a cable modem, for example) you might unintentionally affect the
network settings of other ISP customers, and your ISP might terminate your service to
prevent you from disrupting its network.
3. If you want to share your Internet connection with computers using AirPort, click
AirPort Options to give your network a name and password.

How can I turn captured video into a DVD
I am a premiere newbie. Can anyone tell me the basic steps to take captured video (already can do..) and turn it into a DVD which can be read on a regular TV-DVD player.? Even a few basic starter steps to send me down the right road would be helpful and VERY appreciated. I can capture to Premiere (Pro CS4), but then what? Thank you!!
OK, you've got your material Captured from your camera. It should appear in your Project Panel. At this point, your Timeline will be empty. This is where the editing comes in. I'll keep it simple, as there are a couple of ways to do this.
1.) from the Project Panel, drag each Video Clip to the Timeline's Video Track 1. The accompanying Audio wll come in with it, and should go to Audio Track 1, below that little "beltline," that separates your Video (above) and Audio (below).
2.) you can alter the Duration of your Clip by click-dragging on the Head, to shorten it there, or from the Tail, to shorten it there. If you have material that you wish to remove from anywhere but the Head or Tail, look in the Toolbox, usually to the lower-right, but it can be moved. There is a Razor icon. Place the CTI (Current Time Indicator - that little triangle with a red line, that moves when you hit the Spacebar) where you wish to Cut with the Razor. Click with the Razor selected and both Video and Audio will be sliced. Move to where you wish this extra footage to end, and do the same thing. Rt-click on this new "Clip" and Choose Ripple Delete. This will remove that segment and close up the other parts of the Clip. Repeat for all of the rest of your media Assets.
3.) add any Transitions, music, etc.
4.) when done, you will Export this to Adobe Encore for DVD authoring. There are several ways to do this, but Adobe Dynamic Link is probably the easiest way.
5.) in Encore (if you use DL all selected Timelines will come into that program w/ Audio and Video), you create your navigation with Menus (Encore has a full Library of these).
6.) Check Project
7.) when done, chose File>Burn to DVD.
Note: use good media, like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden and burn at the slowest possible speed.
Done and good luck,
Hunt
PS remember that there are many ways to do the steps above. The manual and the Help files will go into a lot more detail, and you might find that you like another way better. Read, and then experiment. -
Downloaded jpg pictures - can't paste cut images into jpg's
I've downloaded some low resolution jpg's from the Web and intended to do some image cuts from photos I took - and to paste those cut images into the low res downloaded pictures. Using Elements 9, I can cut and paste from photo to photo if they are pcitures I took on my camera just find - just can't seem to cut and paste into the downloaded low res images. Cutting from a self took photo and pasting into the low res jpg does create a layer, but it shows up blank. I even took one the jpg's I downlaoded from the Web and scanned it so it might take off any protection that may be comng down with the downloaded jpg. Nothing seems to work. Thoughts?
Try opening a blank canvas in Editor
File à New à Blank File
Set your dimensions and background e.g. white or back
Set resolution for print or web.
Drag your images up from the project bin on to the canvas. -
How can I install lightroom 5 into windows vista?
I can download it with Adobe Application manager, but when I am doing an installation, it says me that there is error!!!
Help me please, how i can istall lightroom into my laptop, i have windows vista business (service pack 2).
Thank you very much!http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/windows-vista-supported-lightroom-5.html
"Windows Vista is not an officially supported operating system for the release version of Lightroom 5, and it doesn't run on Windows Vista."
Lightroom 5 requires Windows 7 or Windows 8.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
Unofficial workarounds exist online to get Lightroom 5 running on Vista but try them at your own risk. There will be no support if anything goes wrong.

Can you turn an iPhone into an iPod touch when no longer used as a phone?
Can anyone help with turning an iPhone that is no longer in use into an iPod touch?
If it is your old one and is already activated in your iTunes software, Just keep using it. You don't need to do anything to it. Without an cellular service account linked to it anymore, it is now, effectively, an iPod touch (although if you leave the SIM card in it, it could still be used for emergency calls, at least in the USA).
If this is one that you do not have, or never had, activated in iTunes then follow the instructions here - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3406 to activate it in iTunes so you can still sync it and so forth. -
How can I turn "pages" files into a bound book?
Hi,
I am putting together a portfolio for tenure and promotion at my college. I'd like to create the manuscript using Pages2 so that I can add photos of my students in the practicum setting, etc. Then, I'd like to print my book through Apple's iphoto. Is that possible? I would love to know how to do this.
(I did find an online company, but they post the books online too, and I can't do that because of permissions -- many of my photos were taken in public schools.)
Thank you,
Anne
Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8) Powerbook G4iPhoto has a very good yearbook template. Simply add your photos to iPhoto and select the photos and click on the 'book' icon on the toolbar. Assemble your book from there and then print it to a pdf or send it to Apple's publisher. This is really the easiest way to do it.
While I think this is cool for beginners, I personally like using Pages because I can play with the formatting more.
To make a booklet in Pages use the free CocoaBooklet. This neat app takes individual pages and imposes them in the correct order in a pdf document booklet. It is indispensable for long, extended projects.
Since pdf's are cross platform you may be able to bring a CD with the pdf into a printing company and have them bind the book for you. You can also do it yourself with Book Binding Equipment. I saw a fairly inexpensive set up at Staples.
For my booklets I have created two different custom paper sizes in my print dialogue:
Letter half (5.5x8.5)
Legal half (7x8.5)
I put my Pages docs in one of these sizes and work on the pages one at a time until I am done. Then I use CocoaBooklet to make them into a pdf booklet.
To create these custom page sizes so they are available in every doc:
1. Open Pages and select a blank doc.
2. Open the Inspector and click on the tab to the far left to open the page setup dialogue.
3. Click on the Page setup button.
4. In the top pull-down menu (Pages Attributes) select 'custom page size'.
5. Click on the 'new' button
6. Create your new custom size by entering the measurements in the boxes provided and then name the size.
7. Click o.k
Now this size will appear anytime you go to page setup.

How can I turn dropped text into .txt instead of .textClipping files?
I like the idea of being able to select text, drag it and drop it, and have the finder save it as a file. But I don't like the .textClipping files that it creates by default. Is there a preference or a .plist flag I can set somewhere to tell it to just use good old plain text instead?
Nope. That's the way it is. However, you can select the clipping, open it, select all, and paste it into a TextEdit or other text editing program.

Can I turn Frontpage webs into Dreamweaver ones?
Hi all
I've been designing a web on Frontpage 2002, but that
program, although OKAY, is pretty lame. Is it at all possible to
use the html from my Frontpage site, paste it into Dreamweaver (at
which I am also a novice) and do fancy stuff with it using CSS? Are
there any tutorials for this sort of thing?
ThanksBefore doing anything else, take a couple of weeks to
gothrough the DW
tutorials, and also to study HTML and CSS. The more you know
about those,
the easier your transition will be. DW expects alot more from
you than FP
did, and as a result, you may find it much more frustrating
to have the raw
reality of web development staring you in the face rather
than the wizards
of FP.
> Is there a way to convert a Frontpage site into a
> Dreamweaver site
1. I'd define a Dreamweaver site that points to a location on
your hard
drive for the local site's root, and to the current FP site
on the web as
the remote site
2. I'd use Dreamweaver (if your host supports FTP
connections) to download
the remote site to the root of the site you just defined on
the hard drive.
This will pick up all the pages *after* webbot action so that
shared borders
and all are already present in the page HTML. This will also
pick up all of
the server scripting. Note - in the event that you are not
able to connect
using FTP since some FP hosts block that protocol, you will
have to use a
third party 'site copier' like Black Widow, QuadSucker, or
WebCopier, (or
even the DW extension called SiteAssist from WebAssist) to
connect and
download using http protocols. Doing it this way will *not*
retrieve any of
your server-script code, if any (unless you have used the
WebAssist
extension).
3. I'd create a DW template for the pages, that captures the
"shared
border"
effect you had in FP.
4. I'd copy and paste content from each FP pages to a new
template child
page and then save the new child page with an easily
identifiable
nomenclature that is distinct from what was used on the FP
site (since you
are saving the new child pages into the same local site as
the FP pages).
5. When the basic site is completed, I'd upload the new DW
pages to some
staging area/webspace, and by using the browser, I'd verify
that the site
(as it now exists remotely) is complete.
6. Then I'd create a *new* DW site in a new location on the
hard drive, and
connect to and download all the files from the staging site.
7. You can now delete the original FP site from your local
system if you
want.
You now have a complete site (minus any of the FP extension
server-side
code) that has no FP footprint.
If you have used any FP server extension functions on the
original FP site
(form processing, guestbooks, tables of contents, includes,
etc.), you will
have to recreate those functions in DW using 3rd party
scripts, or scripts
that you write yourself.
