Can I turn my G4 and G5 into a TV?

Once upon a time, I think Gilligan's Island was in first runs, I owned an Apple Performa 638 CD. Came with 8mgs Ram. I splurged and upgraded to 12.
What was really cool about this pre-powermac was that had (or has, I still own it and let the kids mess around with old applications on it) a coaxial input in back. I could and did run a cable from my house cable (Comcast) right into Mr. PErforma and could watch TV in the corner of my monitor. Or expand to full screen.
Very cool. Meant I didn't have to have a TV in my office with my computer. Don't know why that didn't catch on. Goodness, I can plug everything else into my mac now. Why not a cable for TV watching>
Anyway, what is an easy and cheap device I can buy to watch some TV on my Imac G4? Maybe something that plugs into as usb port, then plugs a cable into the wall jack and has some kind of tuner?
Thanks~! JON

Hello DadOfSixJon,
Look here, read the detail with an eye towards what you want to do (type of TV reception you have and what you want to do with it):

I have two systems in the family, personally taking it off the old antenna in the attic (close-in Chicago area), and watch HD broadcast TV on 12 stations. And easily and flawlessly record programing with one click from the TitanTV online subscription that comes with the product. Sort of like a HD TIVO but w/out any subscription cost.
There are a few other choices out there, but IMO, none of them compare.
Good Luck and have fun!
Respectfully,

  • How can I turn my French apple account into Australian one to be able to buy a Iphoto book I've made?

    hi
How can I turn my french apple account into an Australian one , to be able to buy a Iphoto book I 've created ?

And you need to set the "Print Products Store" in the iPhoto Preferences "Advanced" to the country you are in. The credit card you will be using with your AppleID needs to be valid in the country your AppleID is registered to. Will you be staying permanently in Australia? Maybe it wuld be simpler to create a second AppleID just for the time of your stay there.

  • How can I turn my Mac using iTunes into an alarm clock?

Here's my question: How can I turn my Mac, using iTunes, into an alarm clock?
I want to be able to put my Mac to sleep but have it set up so that when it wakes up at the predetermined time iTunes will open and start playing the music I've selected....
    A "musical alarm clock"...
A friend suggested using the Energy Saver option in Sys. Preferences to wake the computer at the right time. He said that then I could use iCal to start iTunes. I would then have to use an Apple Script to get iTunes to play the song I want.
But is there a SIMPLER way to do this? Are there any programs out there that do this already??
    Thanks for any help....

I recently got a copy of AlarmClock Pro from MacWorld UK. It is shareware, I think it is (USD?)19. I haven't had a chance to try it out much, but it does look quite good. I have an older version. The latest version looks even better.
I'm sure there's plenty of freeware apps out there. You might also want to try looking here for an applescript here Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes

  • In Yosemite, I can;t operate for more than a few minutes with Keychain or Safari asking for my login password.  How can I turn this off, and still be safe?

Using Yosemite, I an't seem to work for more than a few minutes without being asked for my login password.  Keychain wants it, Safari wants it, iCloud wants it..the list goes on.  Then in 10 minutes or so, they all want it again.  Passwords are being stored by Safari as usual, but new tabs or pages bring up the request.  How can I turn this off and still have protection?

    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

My Macbook Pro is frozen on the login page with a white screen and only my login picture. How do I fix this? I can't turn it off and I closed it and let it charge but it's still not working. It's only 3 months old and was working perfectly fine 30min before this happened.

    Hello Kierasully,
I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

My iPhone is in recovery mode and I do not see it on my laptop and on iTunes. Moreover, I can not turn it off and when I try it comes up all the time in the recovery mode.

    Hey Yan Heng,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your iOS device is not recognized in iTunes for Windows, while in recovery mode. The following resource may help to resolve your issue. While you should run through each step, the specific information related to your symptom is outlined in Step 5 (If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode).

  • Can i turn off icloud and get my contacts back?

just upgraded the operating system, and inadvertantly selected icloud.  dont want it.  all my contacts are gone from my phone.  Can I turn it off, and get them back?

Unfortunately, no.  This only stops your contacts syncing with iCloud; it won't restore them to your phone if they're gone.  Unless you backed them up somewhere, you'll have to recreate them.

  • Can I turn icloud off and on on my iPhone? If I do, will I only have to enter my apple id, and password, or will I be required to enter my email password as well?

Can I turn icloud off and on on my iPhone? If I do, will I only have to enter my apple id, and password, or will I be required to enter my email password as well?
I have forgotten my email password, and it's currently saved on the phone. I don't wanna change it because I have saved on other devises as well.

You need the owner of the account to remove the iPhone from their Apple ID, there is no way around this sorry.

Your phone is in recovery mode.  All data on it are already lost.  You must connect your phone to your computer and restore through iTunes.

Why can´t I create projects and tasks into a External Group?

At this time, it's not possible to collaborate on a Project with External Contributors or add an Externally-Facing group to a Project. This is functionality that we we hope to add at some point in the future.

  • Once I have synced my Google calendar to iCal, can I turn off syncing and save all info in iCal?

I have been using Google Calendar, and syncing info from it to my Mac, iPad and iPhone. Now that all the info I originally entered into Google Calendar is on my Apple devices, can I turn off syncing it and save all the events, birthdays, etc. that were put into iCal up to this point? I have only been adding to my iCal via the Mac, iPad or iPhone for several months now, so it seems silly to keep using Google Calendar.

Unless you have backed up your iCal data, there is no way to retrieve the now missing data. To easily back up your calendar data, simply choose the Back up Database… option under the File menu in iCal.
Microsoft cautions users that deletion of the Entourage calendar in iCal—without first disabling the synchronization function with Entourage—will result in exactly the outcome you see.
If you have not subsequently synchronized with .Mac since you deleted the iCal calendar, you can selectively restore calendar files as a collection of calendars from .Mac by using the Reset Sync Data… option in the .Mac preference pane by launching System Preferences, pressing the .Mac icon then the Advanced tab, and waiting for your client list to update. Once you've done that, press the Reset Sync Data… button, choose Calendars from the drop down menu and pick the option to replace the data on your Macintosh with data stored on the .Mac servers.

  • Can we backup from iPhone and iPad into time capsule?

Can we backup from iPhone and iPad photos and data into time capsule?

iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad back up only to iTunes on your computer or to iCloud. More details on backups here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
If you backup the iOS devices to iTunes, then iTunes in turn backs up to the Time Capsule using Time Machine.
