CAN I TURN MY MACBOOK PRO INTO A MONITOR?

Help I want to turn my Macbook Pro into a monitor for my Playstation 2 so that way I can record on my screen using quicktime. please help I used a vga adapter from apple a AV to vga converter, and is their any way for me to use an iphone on a mac to play ios games while recording?

I don't think you can without some sort of capture card (very expensive, and because most MacBook Pros don't have a card, you need to use the FW800).  MBP's Thunderbolt port only sends video signals out, you can't attach an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable from your camera to the MBP and expect to show video.
You could try a utility like Sofortbild.

  • How to turn a Macbook Pro into a second display for another Macbook Pro

So my school just gave me a Macbook Pro and I already have a Macbook Pro. I would like to know if I could turn my school Macbook Pro into a second display for my regular Macbook Pro. Thank You!
Both Macs are running Mavericks 10.9.4

If you need administrative access and it is denied to you, then there is no way, as ScreenRecycler and AirDisplay do need administrative access to be installed.

  • Can't turn on MacBook Pro after proper Shutdown

I can't turn on my MacBook Pro after proper shutdown. It's simply does not start at all. If I leave it over night, It boot's up normaly and I can work with it all day, restart, suspend, etc. If I shut it down or turn of with power button, it wouldn't start again. I tried to reset smc, vram, pram and nothing helped.

very indicative of a battery issue or feeding issue from same.  Call Apple support for genius bar appt. to see about a repair.
When you say "wont start at all" do you mean utterly dead,....... or "wont reach to desktop",.....big difference beween the two.
If utterly dead, then battery/power issue, ......if the later, and wont reach to desktop, then corrupt OSX or other issue.

  • How can I turn my Macbook Pro display off instantly?

    Hello.
I love having my laptop connected to my TV via HDMI cable to watch TV shows. But I dont like putting it in Clamshell mode because I have a VLC Remote app that lets me put the next film on instantly without touching the laptop.
I like to have the laptop display fully off / black so that i'm not see two images (TV and Laptop), so what I do is hold the brightness key down to turn off the display.
Does anyone know of a menu bar app, or a command to turn the display off instantly with a single click?
    Thank You

No eject key on new Macbook Pros...
I guess it depends on you Macbook Pro.  My 15" Macbook Pro (2011) has the eject key to the right of the F12 key far upper right corner of the keyboard.
My wife's 13" Macbook Pro Retina (2013) has a power button there, HOWEVER, Control-Shift-Power does exactly the same as Control-Shift-Eject.  That is to say Control-Shift-Power will turn off the screen.
So assuming you have a power button, use
         Control-Shift-Power
NOTE:  my older 2011 Macbook Pro has a power button in the case, not part of the keyboard, AND Control-Shift-Power also works on my older Macbook Pro to turn off the screen.

  • How can I tun my Macbook Pro into a wi-fi router? I have no airport/ethernet devices; I've airport utility though.

I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and I have no ethernet cable or airport devices. I have airport utility though. Is it possible to turn my Macbook into a wi-fi router under the current settings available?

I think I've figured out a way to do so without any ethernet cable and it's working pretty well for me since then. Although every time I initiate wi-fi sharing from my Mac, it says doing so could actually disrupt my connection (see screen shots); but I'm yet to experiance any kind of breakdown/disruption of my internet connection.
Anyway thanks for your answer and suggestions.

  • Turning my Macbook Pro into a server

I have read over and over (MacX -Missing Manual) on how to let people access your computer as server or FTP sever,Host my own sites etc... No matter what I try nothing works.
My goal is to have files on my Mac and let my band members access them when thy need them then reload them to my comuter when they finish their modifications. We were using my .Mac acct. but we are working with .WAV files and they are on the larger size.
I also want to host my own .coms that I already have from my Mac.
Can anybody direct me to the proper setup info?

Not sure that this will work:
firstly the personal web sharing thing is only for
computers on a network or intranet not across the
    internet.
That's not true - I used it for years to host my own website. The button in System Preferences simply issues the command 'sudo apachectl start' to start the Apache webserver.
Anyway, to host your website, you'll need to not only turn on Personal Web Sharing (the relevant firewall ports on the G5 should open up automatically) on the G5, but you'll need to set up your router as well.
Hopefully there's some place on your router where it shows you its WAN IP, i.e., the address that it has for the "outside world". That's the address that any visitor would need to connect to. Of course, this could change if you have a dynamic IP connection with your ISP.
The router also needs to be configured to forward traffic to your G5 if that traffic arrives on port 80 (the standard port for http traffic), and maybe on port 443 (for https connections). This may be called port forwarding or virtual servers or something like that, depending on whose router you have. You'll also need open up those ports on the router's built-in firewall.
If you want to use "proper words" in the URL, you need a domain name. Preferably, you'll have a static IP address to use with this, or if you don't, you can use a service such as DynDNS.
This is the setup in a nutshell. Work with getting this configured and see if someone can successfully connect to your server from the outside.
Feel free to post back with questions as much as you like. It will work; I had my old PM9600 (running OS X) operating as a webserver/mailserver for several years.

  • Can you plug your macbook pro to your monitor ?

    as topic
    thanks for answering
    cheers
    Ronald

Yep, you sure can. I have my MBP connected to a Samsung 730B via the digital input. This way I can use the dual screen feature to give me more desktop "elbow" room when I am working at home. Alternately, you can simply use the screen mirror option where what is on you MBP screen is also on your external monitor. If you have not purchased the external monitor yet, I would advise you get one with a digital input already built in.

  • Use macbook pro as a monitor

Can I use my Macbook Pro as a monitor for my G4 tower? I am trying to see if the existing monitor I have is causing my kernal panics on my G4 tower....

Monitors don't typically cause kernel panics. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics.
Open your Console application and locate the last panic log entry. Copy it and post here. Perhaps we can help if you provide more information about your kernel panics.

Boot into your recovery partition (restart, hold down ⌘R until you see the Apple logo), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Repair permissions too while you're there. OS X: About OS X Recovery

  • Hi, I turned my macbook pro off before I went to sleep, and this morning when I awaken. I can't seem to use the volume at all! I went to system preferences sound output BUT everything is light grey and it some-how looks like I don't have permission.

Hi, I turned my MacBook Pro off before I went to sleep, and this morning when I awaken. I can't seem to turn up or down my volume. It comes up with all the volume bars and a little circle sign with a diagonal line in the middle, like a stop sign. I have gone to system preferences > Volume > Output BUT all my volume preferences have gone all light grey and wont let me access them.
    Anyone help?
