Can I turn off features in iCloud in mountain lion?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion and signing into iCloud with my Apple ID and password - can I then turn OFF features/programs such as Mail or Contacts in iCloud on my computer  and keep ON the programs I wish to sync with iClound and my other computers (as I could with Lion or on my PC) ?

In the System/iCloud preference pane:
NOTE: the screenshot is from Lion but would be surprised if ML didn't have the same preference pane.

  • Can you turn off autosave and versions in mountain lion?

    Is this possible?

Still haven't checked in ML, got delayed with real-world things like doctors, but FWIW, this Terminal command turns off auto-save globally:
defaults write -g ApplePersistence -bool no
You might be able to do it on a by-apo basis. E.g., for TextEdit, try:
defaults write com.apple.TextEdit ApplePersistence -bool no
Finally, since versions are stored in each user's hidden ~/Library/Saved Application State/, lock the specific app subfolder,
    com.vendorname.appname.savedState/, to preclude versioning.

  • Bought a new phone and now I can't turn off FindMyPhone or iCloud from the other device.

I'm trading in my old phone and need to clear my personal info from it and turn off FindMyPhone before I do so. I've looked up how to turn off FindMyPhone, but it keeps telling me that it can't connect to iCloud or that my password/username is incorrect. Can I just restore my phone to the factory settings to clear everything off the phone? If not, can you help me with with getting my old device where it needs to be so I can turn it in?

After hours of working to reset my phone, I finally was able to turn off FindMyPhone and reset it. Sorry, I don't know how to delete my previous question.

  • How do i turn off messages with the new mountain lion os?

My husband and I share an Apple ID. When I use the iMessages on my MacBook it send them to both of our iPhones. How can I turn this off on my computer?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Mountain Lion. There's a Mountain Lion Support Community where everybody has Mountain Lion. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mountain_lion

  • HT4930 Turn off mouse scrolling completely in Mountain Lion?

After installing Mountain Lion 10.8.5, I have a slightly different Magic Mouse preferences window than I did with Snow Leopard. There is no longer an option for entirely turning off scrolling. This is really annoying while working in Photoshop as the cursor will periodically "jump". I also do not have "Universal Access" in my System Preferences. How do I turn off scrolling?

In case anyone comes here looking I made an applescript that does the job. You could automate this using automator so use a simple keyboard shortcut to activate it for easy access.
    Script:
    tell application "System Preferences"
         activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.universalaccess"
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
         tell application process "System Preferences"
tell table 1 of scroll area 1 of window "Accessibility"
                   delay 0.2
                   select (row 10)
              end tell
click button 5 of window 1
         delay 0.1
if value of checkbox 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility" is 1 then
click checkbox 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility"
         else
click checkbox 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility"
         end if
click button 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility"
              end tell
    end tell
    tell application "System Preferences"
         quit
    end tell
To do the automator method all you have to do is launch it and select "Service" Then set "service receives selected" to "no input". Search in the action bar for "Run Applescript". Paste the script code there and save. Now in System Preferences> Keyboard> shortcuts there should be a catagory called General. Under that should be whatever you named your automator service. Make sure its checked and then just click and add a keyboard shortcut!
Hope someone finds it useful. I made this for my brother because he hates having scroll on for games as well.

  • HT4436 How can I turn off another users iCloud from my profile on a mac

My partner and I share our Mac, he uses icloud and I dont. So since he has installed it my profile reflects his icloud preferences, it brings his contacts and uses hies details for autofill. Please can somone tell me how to sort out?

Go to system Preferences>iCloud and click the 'Sign out' button. However, if he has signed you in there, your contacxts and calendars may well have got mixed up with his, and if so they will be on the cloud and will disappear when you sign out. Check whether your calendars are listed under his login name or 'On My Mac'; if the former, follow the second set of numbered instructions here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmovecalendars.html
With contacts, you will need to drag them individually to the Deskop (or a folder on it would be better), delete them from the iCloud listing, and reimport them once you have signed out.

  • How do I turn off "Automatically adjust brightness" on Mountain Lion using AppleScript

I'm new to Mac, Applescript and Automator and I'm trying to make a automation for when I perform on stage and found a script to set the brightness all the way up but can't find a script to disable "Automatically adjust brightness". Any help would be appreicated.

You could even both “set the brightness all the way up” and “disable Automatically adjust brightness” with just one and the same script:
    tell application "System Preferences"
        -- launch
        -- activate
set current pane to pane id "com.apple.preference.displays"
reveal anchor "displaysDisplayTab" of current pane
        tell application "System Events"
            tell process "System Preferences"
tell group 1 of tab group 1 of window 1
set value of slider 1 to 1.0 -- max
                    tell checkbox 1
if value is 1 then click
                    end tell
                end tell
            end tell
        end tell
        quit -- optional
    end tell

  • Can't turn off iCloud in iTunes on MacBook running 10.6.8

I can't turn off my wifes iCloud in iTunes on her MacBook that is running 10.6.8. I have read that that way to tun this off is to go to the iCloud icon but this isn't available on 10.6.8. So how do I fix this issue? She can only get access to 50 songs and not her whole library.

Your question makes no sense, given the issue you describe.
But iTunes cloud function is under the iTunes menu >> preferences >> store.
If you mean iTunes match, that's under the store menu.

  • Help turning off feature that opens all pages and numbers docs.

How can I turn off feature that opens all numbers and pages documents each time I open the respective program?

What version of OS X are you using? That information will help in providing a specific solution.
If you close all documents before quitting Numbers or Pages, you won't have them reopening when you launch the app again. You can quickly close all open windows in an application by typing ⌘ ⌥ W (Command + Option + W) or hold down the Option/alt key while clicking the red close button.
Other things you can do to turn off this resume feature:
In Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks you can set System Preferences > General to close windows when quitting an application.
Try Mountain Tweaks The option to turn off resume is at the bottom of the left-hand column under Lion. This solution does not work in Mavericks.

  • HT203521 In iOS8 I can't turn off shared iCloud calendar alerts. I share iCloud calendars with 3 others and am constantly getting their alarms for upcoming appointments. Settings- Notifications- Calendar- Shared Calendar Changes turns off changes only.

Have had new iPhone 6 for 2 months, using iOS 8.  I share iCloud calendars with 3 others and I am getting bombarded with their upcoming appointment alerts.  There seems no way to turn this off.  I went to Settings->Notifications->INCLUDE(Calendar)->Shared Calendar Changes and turned everything off, but this only blocks alerts about new events or changes to events being added to the calendars, it does not block the 5-minute/10-minute/etc. alarms that go off immediately in advance of the appointment.  There used to be a setting in iOS7 in "Mail, Contacts, and Calendars" way at the bottom to turn off alarms from shared calendars, but I don't see that in iOS8.  Any ideas?

Finally figured this out when I read jodiemcneill 's post about Google calendars.  Thanks!
Reposting the basic idea: to turn off event alerts from shared ICloud calendars, select the Calendar App, then click the "info" (i.e., the circled red 'i') icon next to the shared iCloud calendar to be silenced. Go down to "Notifications" and turn the slider off for "Event Alerts: (Allow events on this calendar to display alerts.)"
For good measure, you can also turn off the slider for "Show Changes" to prevent the calendar from displaying messages when shared events are added/modified/deleted, although this can be done "globally" for all shared iCloud Calendars in Settings->Notifications->Calendar->Invitations (turn off all sliders, click "none" for Alert Style).
This has been a major pain in the ... neck ... for the past 3 months.  So glad to start the new year with a suddnely-much-quieter iPhone 6.

i can't turn off find my ihone, always show "there was a problem when canceling the registration of this iphone with icloud" please help me. i can't restore my iphone before turn off find my iphone

If you are the original owner of the phone and know the Apple ID and password that were used to activate it originally, and if you have an existing backup to restore from, you can force it into recovery mode (which will completely erase it) and restore it as explained here: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.  When you do you will encounter activation lock, and will have to provide the ID and password used to activate it originally in order to activate it again.  If you can't, you won't be able to activate and use it.
