Can I un-update itunes or simply run it on an earlier version?

I just ran the itunes update and I absolutely hate it. I can't find anything and in my opinion, "simplicity" should not be more important than easy use. I was wondering if I could somehow un-update or how I could run it on the version that was right before the new design change. If I can that would be wonderful because the new design is making me avoid opening itunes and listening to music because I don't want to deal with any of it now. Help is much appriciated.

Hi Lilian, before downgrading to 10.7 see if these steps help
enable Top Menu Bar Ctrl + B
View > Show Sidebar ( This will show the left hand sidebar where the Library Devices and Playlists are displayed
View > Show Status bar ( This is the gray bar that used to be at the bottom of itunes where Number of Songs etc are displayed)
Turn off Search Entire Library by clicking on the downward pointing arrow to the right of the magnifying glass in Search. Untick Search Entire Library. (iTunes then runs faster ans Search works as in iTunes 10
It will take 5 Mins to do this and you should be able to do everything as you used to do in iTunes 10
Drag And drop onto Devices and playlists etc.
See what you think and if you still want to downgrade then search this forum as there are multiple questions about this.

    hi
I had the same problem (update failed for normal user, update worked for administrator, but then normal user still got asked about installing the update even though it was already done).
Following the advice on http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_update#Software_Update_not_working_properly worked for me, in particular to remove the update-related xml files.
    good luck

  • I have an iBook G4 and iTunes is no longer updating. The last update is 9.2.1 but it doesn't support my iPhone or iPad. Is there anything I can do to update iTunes or is my only recourse to update my laptop?

As Niel has suggested Mac OS X 10.5 Lepaord.
But first of all make sure that your iBook is above 800Mhz and you have at least 512 Meg of memory. (1 GB recommended)
Please note, that if you do install Mac OS X 10.5 on your iBook, it will not allow you to install the latest version of iTunes version 11. The most recent version of iTunes that can be installed would be 10.5, which will be compatible with your iPod touch 4th gen, provided it's not been updated to iOS 6.
Sadly you can't install any version of Mac OS X above 10.5 Leopard, as it they requires an Intel processor, which your iBook G4 does not have.
    Hope this helps.

You need a Time Machine backup to restore an old version. If you don't have one, you'll lose your library because it can only be used with iTunes 11

    Many thanks.
That suggests that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

    Hello sphsphsph,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. You may need to reinstall iTunes, the following link will assist with downloading the latest version of iTunes and then run the installer.

  • Why can I not update iTunes, or reinstall it?

When I still had iTunes on my Windows PC computer, it would not let me update to iTunes 10.5, and now not 10.6 either. So I tried to go into my control panel and repair the program and then update it; no luck whatsoever. Then I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it, now I can't even get iTunes back. How can I get the new iTunes 10.6 on my Windows PC computer? Please help me

What error messages are you getting when you try to install, uninstall or repair iTunes? (Precise text, please.)

  • Why can't I update iTunes?

When I opened iTunes, it reminded me I had an update (10.7). I just ignored it at first because I was in a rush. Later, I wanted to install a song onto my iPod, but because I had already updated it iOS 6 I needed to update iTunes first. When I went to Help>Check for Updates, 10.7 came up but when I clicked download now, the window closed but nothing else. I tried this several times, and closed and reopened iTunes, but I still couldn't get it to work. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

The installer will uninstall the previous version of iTunes prior to installing the new version. (That's actually what happens when you update using Apple Software Update too ... it's just not explicitly flagged as happening during the update process.)
Updating to 10.7.0.21 using an iTunesSetup.exe or iTunes64Setup.exe shouldn't touch your content. By way of an example, I've updated to 10.7.0.21 on two different computers using the downloaded installer files (using an iTunes64Setup.exe on the 64-bit system and an iTunesSetup.exe on the 32-bit system) and didn't lose anything.
(That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times, in case of disasters of any sort.)

  • Where can I find "Update iTunes Match"?

The Help says to "choose Store>Update iTunes Match". I see no such option. Where should it be?

Are you going to Store at the top of the page when you open iTunes? It should be there, not when you go to iTunes Store in the program itself.
