I have tried resetting an iPhone 3 and I am unable to activate and sync it. How can I reset the device without using a computer?
Hello anacc,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Connect your USB cable to your computer but not to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until step 3.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button down, connect the USB cable to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen. When this screen appears, you can release the Home button:
Note: If the image of a battery appears, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again. If you don't see the Connect to iTunes screen, try these steps 1 through 4 again.
iTunes should automatically open and display the following message:
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."Note: If iTunes not open after two minutes, please open iTunes yourself.
Use iTunes to restore the device.
Best of luck,

Sorry, you can't. If your phone is carrier locked, you will need a sim card from that carrier, to activate it.

If using a phone locked to a carrier, you must have the original SIM or one from that carrier to activate your iPhone.

My eldest son gave my youngest son his ipod. He locked it with a passcode, couldn't remember and now it is disabled. Will not work trying to get it in recovery/restore mode. Original synced computer not around anymore, either is eldest. Not worried about losing data as my young son can have it now. What else can I try?? I follow the steps and it still says ipod is disabled on ipod screen. iTunes keeps saying it needs passcode.....
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Next try placing the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:

If necessary:
Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
For MAC or PC

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store -
IPhone software update errored. How can I fix my iPhone without having to do a restore?
I plugged in my iPhone 4 to do a sync this afternoon. I got the message that there was a software update. Sadly, I've updated to the crappy iOS7, so I chose to install the update (which I think is 7.0.2.) The update was downloaded, and was loading to my iPhone. I suddenly received an error that my iPhone couldn't update. I think it had an error code of 411. My iTunes refreshed, and is now not showing that it recognized my phone. Now the only thing I can get to show up on my screen is a graphic of the iTunes icon, and an arrow directing me to plug in my phone. When I do this, a message appears that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and that I must restore this phone before it can be used with iTunes. I don't want to perform a restore. I will lose all my data. So, why did this error? How can I fix my iPhone without doing a restore?
I think it had an error code of 411....So, why did this error?
There is no such error code. No one can tell you why without the correct code.

There is no way to get out of recovery mode without restoring.
You mean you actually didn't back up before updating, really?

If i've forgotten my passcode, is there any way i can get into my iPhone, without restoring it?
No. But if you restore from backup on the last computer your phone synced with, this will remove the passcode.

I have purchased ringtones from iTunes for my iPhone 4S, I have never had a problem with it but I had to reset my phone and of course I lost everything and I can't find how to get my ringtones back without buying them again, which I will not do. How can I recover my ringtones without using a computer?
You ringtones will only be where you put them. You get one download. As always, it is your responsibility to backup your content.
Did you keep a copy on your computer? If so, then sync it to the iphone.
If not, did you keep a backup copy anywhere? -
Hi,
I lost my computer.
How can I sincronize me Iphone with the new computer without loose my contacts and apps?
Thanks
ThaschorIt has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to move everything to the new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from the iphone: File>Transfer Purchases
If you enter one unique contact and calendar entry on your computer, then when you first sync you should get the option to merge the data. -
Can I transfer my iTunes from 1 iphone to another iphone without using my computer/iTunes ?

I Want my iphone 5s unlock code
This is threadjacking. Where someone posts something in a thread that has nothing to do with the thread. If you want to ask a question, then start your own thread. You won't get an answer here. But to keep you from having to start a thread, there is no iPhone unlock code. -
Can i use my iphone without a sim card as a ipod
can i use my iphone without a sim card as a ipod?
The SIM card is not required to use an iPhone as an iPod or to be used for anything else besides cell phone related services.
For a no longer activated iPhone, the no longer activated SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated must be inserted in the iPhone in order to install an iOS update and for no other reason. -
When I set up email for the first time, I had to enter a 4 digit pin. Since then, every time I switch my phone on, I have to enter this pin. How do I remove or bypass the pin so that I can switch on the Iphone without having to first enter a pin?
Go to Settings>General>Passcode Lock>tap Turn Passcode Lock Off, enter your "pin".
Edit: Are you saying you are getting a prompt for your email pin, or are you talking about the passcode lock that appears when you turn the phone on? -
Does anyone know a site where i can get a new iphone WITHOUT A CONTRTACT!!!
MY phone got water damaged and i want a cheaper new iphone but i already have a contract..so i need a site where i can just buy the iphone without a contract so it would be cheaper and i can just put old sim in new iphone!
PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The cheapest area you are going to find a cheaper iPhone is Craig's List. However you seem to want a new one, so that is going to be difficult. You could check eBay, however they are in the business of trying to sell unlocked phones, so the prices are "through the roof". Fortunately, the best bet is to take it to the Apple Store and get an "Out of Warranty" replacement, and that will run you $199.

I purchased Words with Friends on my iPad. I then purchased an iPhone, however, this app is not showing up under "purchased". How can I download to iPhone without paying for it again?
Which version did you buy on your iPad ? If you bought the HD version then that is only compatible with the iPad, so you will need to buy the iPhone/Pod version (or download the free version) if you want to use it on your iPhone.
