Can I uninstall itunes and re-install without losing my library?

My eject button has disappeared.  So I want to unistall Itunes and then re-install it.How do I do this without losing my library?

Your library is preserved with the following repair process, but you ought to be routinely backing up anyway.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • How to uninstall itunes and then reinstall without losing everything?

A few years ago my HD crashed and I lost 3,000 songs, so I'm skittish about doing this. I bought a used ipad touch and even though iphoto recognizes it, itunes does not. I want to try trashing it and starting over.
After I back up my library, what do I do to ensure everything gets back safely?

click here and follow the instructions.
note this will not touch your media files, playlists, ratings, etc.

  • I keep getting the error message "apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes and then install it again." I've done this twice and still keep getting the same message...I'm at wits end Please HELP!!!

I keep getting the error message "apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes and then install it again." I've done this twice and still keep getting the same message...I'm at wits end Please HELP!!!

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • IPhone 4 reset.  Can I uninstall iTunes and reinstall and still get to the backup?

Forgot iPhone4 passcode. Apple store reset back to factory settings.  Attempting to sync to iTunes and am told version 10.5 is needed.  Unfortunately, hard drive is low on space and cannot install update.  Can I unstall iTunes and reinstall and still get backup for my phone which includes all my configuration?

Thank you for the info regarding being unable to uninstall TM without reinstalling OSX - I suspected as much.
With regard to TM not supporting backing up to a NAS unless it is Time Capsule, someone should tell WD because an entire section of their user manual, and some standard WD MBL settings, are all about how to back up to a WD MBL using TM. See http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705058.pdf#page44
I just couldn't get it to work...

You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • Uninstalling itunes and re-installing

Hello, is there anyone out there that can help me please???
When trying to install a new version of itunes I'm getting,
    Invalid Drive: F:\
and when i try to uninstall itunes I'm getting,
    Fatal error during installation
I really dont know where to start!!??

At some point you had a digital camera card or memory card in drive F: and for whatever reason, itunes thinks it needs to be there again.
So plug things into your USB ports until you see a drive F: in windows explorer.
    Then try the install again.

  • I too need to re install Bonjour, If I uninstall iTunes and re install i tunes, will I lose all my music?

No. They will be right where you left them after re-installing iTunes.
Either way, you should be backing this content up anyways.

  • Uninstalling ITUNES and re-installing on another PC

if I unstall my Itunes software from my laptop and reinstall it on my desktop, will I lose my library? including the songs I purchased from the Itunes store? any help would be appreciated

You don't need to uninstall iTunes from one computer to transfer it to another, you can copy your existing iTunes folder. There are a few things you could do to achieve this, from networking the two computers, using an external hard drive or even using your iPod to make the move. Have a look at this User Tip: Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC
If you can network the computers there is also this one: Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows

    ok I'm good to go.
I had to uninstall QT first, used the Windows Installer clean up (found in another post) and used it to remove the iTunes installer left in the system.
After uninstalling QT and using the Installer clean up, I then used the iTunes newer version to update and all is well. It even shows up in my Add/Remove programs now!
