Can I uninstall iTunes without losing all my music?

When trying to sync my iPod touch with my computer, I'm encountering an error in iTunes that tells me that the "Software for the iPhone is not installed..." and that I need to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it.
That's all well and good, however both methods of backing up your music that are listed on Apple's support site have not worked for me. I can't get the CD's to burn and trying to copy the music over using the iPod itself was a total failure.
I've got iTunes on another computer and it recognizes the Touch just fine. It's the iTunes on the main computer with all the music that's giving me problems.
So, is there any way to uninstall, then reinstall, iTunes on my computer without losing the music?
Can I make a back up folder or something like that?

i had the same problem but it was fix
try to open the command prompt as administrator an write 'netsh winsock reset', sometimes don't work but lets try it

  • Can I uninstall iTunes without losing all my files?

I am trying to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and to do so it says I need to uninstall itunes...if I do so will I lose all my files downloaded through iTunes?

There's no reason it should cause you to lose your files. Your music is in your iTunes folder, separate from the iTunes app. However, it is always recommended that you have a back up of any files that are valuable to you. An iPod doesn't count as back up.
Good practice would dictate that you back up any files on your computer that you can't afford to lose before doing a major system update. You can back up your iTunes by dragging the +entire iTunes folder+ to an external drive. This will save everything, including your playlists.
    Best of luck.

  • How can I uninstall yosemite without losing all my stuff?

I just installed Yosemite tonight and I've realized that I absolutely hate it. Not only does it look horrible, but my computer is super laggy, wont load anything but firefox, and for a while it completely locked me out of my computer. I need my computer for work and school so this is absolutely not acceptable. I really just want to go back to mavericks, however I don't have an external hard drive or have time machine. How can I go back to mavericks without losing all my stuff?

Unless your machine shipped with Mavericks or, if not, you saved a copy of the Mavericks install app, you're screwed. Without a bootable backup/clone or TM backup of your previously good Mavericks installation, there's no way to get from here to there; unless you know someone that kept the Mavericks installer.

  • HT1386 My computer broke and I've since gotten a new one. I don't know how to sync my phone to iTunes without losing all my music.  How do I get my old iTunes back on a new computer?

I studied abroad and my computer broke during the trip.  I eventually got another computer after I came home.  I can no longer access iTunes on that computer, but I still have all my music/photos/apps on my iPhone.  But if I try to sync my phone to the newly downloaded iTunes on this new computer, it wants to erase everything.  Is there a way I can have all my music back on iTunes without losing it off my phone?  My phone is the only place I have it!

If it's all purchased content, it's really simple. If not, then not so simple.
    To download previous purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If they aren't purchased from iTunes, then you are going to have to find them and download them onto your computer and back into your iTunes library.
You can turn off photo syncing, and import the ones from your phone onto your computer.

  • How do you sync your ipod to your itunes without loseing all your music?

Some how my itunes deleted all music (everything except my purchased music and I dont have my other music anywhere else only on my ipod.). Today I tryed to add a new Cd but i cant do that untill i get all my music from my ipod back into itunes by syncing it without losing everything. how do I do that i need to know ASAP

You need to put your ipod in manually manage mode. When you plug in your ipod the box that pops up is gonna state your ipod has been synced with another library do you want to erase and sync or transfer purchases or cancel. Hit cancel. Under devices in theleft hand side of itunes click the name of your ipod. That brings up a summary page, then select under options on that summary page manually manage ipod then click apply. You can then add content by dragging and dropping from itunes library to the name of your device. this allows syncing with multiple computers withuot losing content.

  • Hi, my old laptop has died, and I need to set up my ipod on my new one, can I do this without losing all the music on it, as some of them are from  old cd's I no longer have??

Hi, my laptop died recently, and I have purchased a new one, I want to connect my ipod to it to synch to Itunes but I don't want to lose everything on it, as some are cd's I no longer have, is there a way of synching without losing everything x

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Is it possible to reinstall itunes without losing all the music we've already downloaded?

Our computer is telling us we need to reinstall itunes but we are hoping we can do that without losing the music we've already downloaded.

Reinstall iTunes normally; it won't affect the library. Back the library up anyway.

  • How can i transfer my ipod to my new itunes without losing all music

my computer crashed and now all i have is my cousins and i need to know how to convert my music onto her new itunes, hopefully without losing all my music. if thats possible, so there is no way i can go back to my old itunes, her computer is the only itunes i will be able to use. how can i transferr my ipod touch to her computer without losing all data???

    Welcome to the discussion,
Create a new user in windows to keep your iTunes library separate and log in. Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

my laptop had a virus and I am trying to sync my IPHONE 4 to my desktop, how can I sync my phone without losing all my music, apps and contacts?

You are talking about the menu bar of Itunes, right?
Yes. With iTunes open the menu bar is at the top of your screen.
where exactly is the Store/synck you iphone option?
After you authorize the computer connect your iPhone then follow the instructions here > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
When you are done transferring the data to the desktop, right or control click the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window then click Back Up.
That way you will have a backup just in case you need to restore your iPhone.
