Can i up load photos from my pc hard drive onto my mac

Just got my first mac and am wondering if I can transfer the contents of my old PC, such as photos, which I have stored on an external hard drive, onto my mac? Also, I have all my itunes library stored on the hard drive, and this would be great to get onto the mac too. I take it that I cant sync from my ipad or phone.

There is Windows Migration Assistant About Windows Migration Assistant, which you could put on your PC and it should help do this.
Otherwise you should be able to just connect your external to the Mac and it should mount on the Mac desktop; then you just drag and drop the files. Your Mac should be able to read the external HD; depending on the formatting of the drive, it might not be able to write to it, however, so after you migrate stuff over to the Mac you might need to reformat it to get it to read and write with the Mac, if that's what you want to do.
You are correct regarding getting the files from your iPhone or iPad onto your new Mac. iTunes on your Mac will only let you sync the iPhone or iPad to one computer each (you can sync multiple phones or iPads to one computer, though). So if you want to sync them with the new Mac it will erase your iTunes files first.

  • HT4528 how can you recover deleted photos from the iPhone hard drive?

Is there anyway possible i can recover my deleted photos from my iphone hard drive for free?

You can't for two reasons: First, the iPhone doesn't have a hard drive. Second, there is no Trash folder, so once something is deleted it is gone forever. If you were foresighted enough to sync your phone regularly the photos should still be in the app you used for managing photos from digital cameras on your computer, and they are also in the iPhone backup on your computer. If you enabled Photo Stream they are also in iCloud. But if you didn't take advantage of any of these backup options you are out of luck.

There is a whole lot of bad going on there.
There are problems both drive errors and USB errors.  I don't believe it.
I have a hunch the drive is starving for power.
USB devices are supposed to function all the way down to 4.25V.  Not all do.
USB ports are supposed to be able to deliver 4.25V at the end of the cable at 500mA.  Not all do.
USB 2.0 devices are not supposed to draw more than 100mA unless they negotiate for more.  Some violate that.
USB 2.0 devices are never supposed to draw more than 500mA. Some violate that.  Especially disk drives.
My guess is that your drive is drawing excess current and the voltage drop through the port and cable are dropping you below 4.25; or at least below the voltage that your drive goes "Tango Uniform"[1].   Does your drive have the option for external power?  If so try it.  Following up on wtx's comment;  USB 3.0 is capable of delivering more power.   Also, some drives have used a cable that violates just about every aspect of the USB specification:  A "Y" cable that plugs into two host ports to provide more power to the guest.  I despise this solution with every fiber of my electrical engineering existence; never-the-less, you might try one.

  • How I can transfer photos from an external hard drive to my mac?

    Hello,
I need help on how to transfer photos from an external hard drive (sumsung make) to my mac? If possible can you please tell me step by step, and also how I can post a video that was taken from my iPhone to facebook. It keeps telling me my video is being encoded, and then could not process. I must be dunce really. Your help is greatly appreciated.

What files are they? Is it a clone, a TM backup, or simply drag 'n drop?
If it's the latter, simply drag them back. If something else, please post back with detailed info.

  • I've backup  my iPhoto on WD My Passport.  When I try to pull up the photos from the external hard drive onto a different computer,  it says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto."  It says I have to use a later version.

After backing up my photos on a My Passport hard drive I can't open iphoto from the hard drive.  It says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iphoto.  You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto."  I have done all the upgrades for iphoto.  Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

What versions of iPhoto and OS X are on each computer? You can find out by going to your iPhoto application (from the Applications folder), clicking it once to highlight it, and click cmd-i to open its information window. The version number is in the General tab.
Your version of OS X can be found from the Apple menu, then About This Mac.
The latest version of iPhoto (9.5.1) requires OS X 10.9, so if you have an older version of OS X on that computer, you will have to upgrade to Mavericks and then upgrade to the newer iPhoto.

  • I have just replaced my hard drive and downloaded Yosemite and now I can't access my photos from my external hard drive

II've just replaced my internal hard drive for my desktop because it failed And installed Yosemite.  I had an external hard drive but it had Mavericks and now I can't access my old iPhoto.  What can I do?

backup your iPhoto and install iPhoto 9.6 - if you had iPhoto '08 or earlier then you need to download and run the iPhoto library before launch iPhoto 9.6
If that does not help then you actually need to tell us information and details - like version of iPhoto. exactly why you can not access your photos and any message you got

  • Why can't I download songs from an external hard drive onto iTunes?

So I have an external hard drive with some songs on it that I wanted to get on iTunes so they can be synced to my iPod. I plugged my hard drive in and then went to iTunes where I clicked on "File" (in the top left corner) and scrolled down to "Add folder to Library". I then found my external hard drive and selected the albums/songs that I wanted.
They loaded onto iTunes just fine. Everything looked right and the songs were all on the list. I even managed to get album artwork on most of them.
Then I went to "sync iPod" and an alert message popped up saying "Some of your songs were not synced to your iPod because they could not be found." (Or something very similar to that)
So none of the songs made it onto my iPod and when I checked the Library list again, all of the songs I had just put on iTunes had exclamation points in front of them.
What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Sounds like you
    1) added the songs to the itunes database, but did not copy the acutal files to the PC's internal HD
    2) unplugged the exHD and now itunes doesn't know now to find them anymore
If you plug the exHD back in, and it has the same drive letter as it did when you added the songs to itunes, it should work.

  • Moving photos from a windows hard drive to my mac.

    Hi,
I am trying to get all the photos off an old Dell computer that is painfully slow. The photos are located in numerous folders under several different users. I have removed the hard drive and am able to get it to mount on my mac. When I try to do a search of .jpg files on the windows drive, it comes back with no items found. However when I copy various folders onto my mac drive I am able to quickly locate the photos. I thought I could copy the entire content of the windows drive onto an external hard drive, but I get an error message (error code -50) after a few minutes of copying. I figure that this might be because some of the files are locked.
Is there anyway to search the windows drive and locate only .jpg files (all the photos are fortunately .jpgs) and copy them to my mac?
Is there a way to unlock all the data on the windows drive and copy the entire content to an external drive?
Is there perhaps an easier way to do this from the PC? It only locates some of the photos when I do a search in Windows.
    Thanks for any advice

I get an error message (error code -50) after a few minutes of copying.
I believe that is related to Permissions on the drive,
Is there anyway to search the windows drive and locate only .jpg files (all the photos are fortunately .jpgs) and copy them to my mac?
If they are all .jpg files then it should show up. However why don't you try to explore the folders in the Finder window and copy it.
Is there a way to unlock all the data on the windows drive and copy the entire content to an external drive?

  • Transferring Video from an external hard drive onto a mac pro via USB

    Hi,
I am planning to buy a Mac Pro in the next couple of weeks, mainly for video editing. Can i trasfer video files onto my mac via usb, or can it only be via Firewire? Also what formats will it accept? I was planning on using AVI or MPEG2

Can i trasfer video files onto my mac via usb, or can it only be via Firewire?
If you mean copying or moving files using the Finder, there is no problem at all.
But if you mean capturing or editing video while media files are stored on an external disk, than Firewire is the right choice, since USB doesn't guarantee sustained throughput (I use USB disks to backup video files, and FW disks to capture/edit video).
Since I guess you'll be using either iMovie or +Final Cut+, the format will be either DV Stream in .dv files for iMovie or .mov (with DV codecs for video and linear PCM for audio) for FCE/FCP. At the end of your editing process you can always convert to AVI or export to a DVD authoring application (e.g. iDVD) that will compress to MPEG2 before burning.

  • How can I combine the data from 3 old hard drives onto 1 newer hard drive and not duplicate the data?

Is there an app that will help me do this?

Finder. Create three partitions, then drag & drop each old HD onto a separate one. Alternatively, create three folders on the new HD and drag & drop each volume onto a separate one.

  • I have so many photos I only have 1G of memory left.  How can I move the photos to my external hard drive that is connected to my iMac?

I have so many photos on my Mac I only have 1G of memory left.  How can I move the photos to the external hard drive that is plugged into my iMac.

1GB? It's a miracle your Mac is running at all!
This is our resident iPhoto guru, Terence Devlin's, advice:
You can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How to load files from old external hard drive to new PC

Copied files from old PC (Windows XP) to external hard drive. Purchased new PC (Windows 7). Paid technicians to transfer files from old PC to new PC. Some files were lost in the process.
Please walk me through (step by step) on how to load spicific files from an external hard drive onto my new PC.
    Thanx, rp1

Click anywhere on the open desktop so that the Finder menus are displayed at the top of the screen.
    Click Go > Network
Double click the Time Capsule icon, then double click the icon representing the drive to mount it on the Mac's desktop. It is named "Data" unless you have changed it
You can drag/drop files to the "Data" icon on the desktop
235 GB is going to take forever if you try to do this using wireless. If at all possible, connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule.
Even using Ethernet, you are probably looking at 10-12 hours for the file transfer.  All bets are off with wireless only, but a guess would be several days....or even more.
