  • How can I update iOS without losing my media?

Hey guys, how can I update iOS without losing my media?
I've been told to sign into iTunes on another computer, authorize the computer in iTunes, then sync my iDevice before updating iOS. When I attempted that I got a warning message from iTunes saying the content on my iDevice would be replaced with the content on the computer so I backed out. I don't have my computer with me and I'd really like to sync my iDevice with another computer so I can update my iDevice to iOS 5.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks.

Wait till IOS 7 has been officially released in fall - now it is only available for developers.

  • HT201541 How can I update Safari without updating the OS?

How can I update Safari without updating the OS? I presently have 10.7.5 and 1.6.1
I am getting too many notices that my browser is out of date...
    b
PS, a note to Apple. You use terms like Mountain Lion,  Yosemite, etc. But in other places you use
10.6, 11.7, etc. Could you be consistent? use one or the other, not both. Please. Or always use both together.

Shoot Apple, you don't make things easy. I don't want to upgrade OS as you now require an itunes account to get upgrades, and I'm against that. (until I have to).
So I switched to the chrome browser, that works.
PS, Ralph, yes, I can lookup the version numbers, but I have not felt the need to memorize them. My question is why does apple make it so difficult that we have to memorize the version number to name correspondence?

  • How can I update Flash WITHOUT installing Chrome?

How can I update Flash WITHOUT installing Chrome?  I keep getting update messages.  I go throught the download and install process but there is no option to un-check installing Chrome.  I don't want Chrome. I'm not asking for Chrome.  I just want to update Flash.

There are a few threads around here with this same issue, and as far as I know Adobe has not addressed it adequately.  Many of us, when we are prompted with an update for Flash, are not given the option to opt out of installing google toolbar and google chrome.
Adobe is playing cute, pretending to be surprised at such reports.  They always demand screenshots of it, and then ignore them when the screenshots are posted. Then demand screenshots in the next thread with the same issue, feigning surprise that such an isue could occur. Sometimes they insist it isnt happening or it is somehow user error (as if it is user error to simply allow the update from their app to install after getting the update message from their app!  )
The problem , in my case, was that the update goes to a URL that autoselects chrome and toolbar.  I found if I manually edited the URL, that it would not automatically install chrome and toolbar.
Basically the URL has to be manually edited , so take out the " &a=Google_Toolbar_7.4&a=Google_Chrome_22.0_IE_Browser " at the end AND the "&dualoffer=true&chromedefault=true" bit in the middle.  Then it will give you the opt-out. Then do make sure to uncheck the box, obviously    And it is obvious that the users are not doing this on purpose, this is built into Adobe's updater, somewhere.   I went into a little more detail in   http://forums.adobe.com/message/5274050

  • I have iphoto 7.1.5.  How can I update iphoto without buying ilife, which i don't need?

i have iphoto 7.1.5.  How can I update iphoto without buying ilife, which i don't need?

I'm not sure where you are seeing the "negative reviews" but I like it and many, many people posting here do even though this is a forum for people with problems
No one knows when the next upgrade will be bu tit will require a purchase
I'm sure that there will be a few more updated for iPhoto '11 but probably not many - it has had a lot and is approaching the end of its life cycle I would think
And be sure to have a good backup prior to upgrading (as always) - I suggest in addition to your normal backup routine that you make one more copy of the iPhoto library on your main hard drive if you have space - remember that you need a minimum of 10 GB of free space jus tto run your Mac
And prior to launching iPhoto '11 the first time be sure to run software update and be sure it is up to the latest version

  • Have 3 Ipads how can I update all without download each time

I have 3 IPads one one computer how can I update all without downloading for each one ?

If they are the same model (iPad 1, iPad 2 wifi, iPad 2 CDMA, or ipad 2 GSM/sim) then for the second and third devices just press hold the shift key on windows, or the command key on a Mac, when clicking on the Check For Updates button in iTunes, and then navigate to the IPSW file - if they are different models then I believe that each model has a different update file.

  • Software Update is not show in general.... How can i update ios without this?

Software Update is not show in general.... How can i update ios without this?

What model iPad and what iOS are you running? The max iOS for the iPad 1 is 5.1.1.
    See
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5 or Later
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect to your computer & click on the "Update your device using iTunes".
Tip - You may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Can't restore new phone through backup without updating itunes, can't update itunes without deleting those backups.

I've got a big problem i'm hoping you guys can help with.
I recently updated my iTunes but now it refuses to open at all. I've googled this and it says that i need to just uninstall and then reinstall itunes, as the new 64 bit version has come out. My problem is this: I NEED the old itunes data that i have to sync contacts with my new phone. I made backup copies before my old iphone 4 crapped out, but i can't sync my new iphone with these copies without updating. however, i can't update without uninstalling everything and deleting my backups. see the problem here?
    please help!

    Hello viclotto,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you need to update iTunes but you have concern for your information in iTunes. It is unlikely that any of your purchased or uploaded data would be affected affected by uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, but I would recommend making sure your iTunes library has been backed up. Your contacts are not stored in iTunes but rather in the contacts program of your Windows computer. Deleting and reinstalling iTunes will not affect your contact data that is stored in your computer.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
Media you've bought from the iTunes Store or songs you've imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. They won't be deleted by removing iTunes. Although it's highly unlikely that you'll lose any of your iTunes Library when following the steps below, first make sure that your iTunes library is backed up. See iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive for more information.
    Steps
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then restart your computer.
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • How do I get my Apple ID off my daughters iPhone that I gave her as a present? She Can't update anything without it going to my Apple ID password entry screen.

I need to get my Apple ID off of my old iPhone 5. I gifted my old iPhone 5 to my daughter as I got the new iPhone 6. I of course have no problems but my daughter can't update anything really without the store telling her to enter my password for my Apple Id. This is my third iPhone and I have never run across this problem before due to the fact my iPhone was never in great condition (#1) or I lost it and had to go retool at a retail store (#2). If there is any help for a poor guy like me let me know I'm racking my brains trying to tackle this one and it's not looking good for me. Thanks for trying to lend your expertise everyone.
    Robert May

Right. To figure out which of the Updates is asking for your ID, do not click Update All. Click on each app, one at at time to Update (this would be under the Update option in the App Store - you will only see apps there with the Update next to them that actually have updates pending). If it asks for the password to your Apple ID, then that app should be deleted.
So, it is good that her ID is the one signed on to everything on the phone now. Once you delete the apps from the phone, then she will purchase new versions of those apps using the App Store on her device. When she does that, the app will be purchased with that ID (or if free, will be associated with that ID since it was the one that downloaded it).
If she is primarily concerned about her Line app and her photos but nothing else, then you can just press on one of the icons on each Home screens until they all wiggle, and then click on the little "x" in the upper left-hand corner of the icon to delete it. Core apps will not have an "x" since they cannot be deleted. So, just delete everything with an "x" except the Line app....

  • Can't update software without credit card info

Geek Squad set up my new Apple ID on my laptop when they did a file transfer.  I wasn't given the ID or password, but it says I am logged in.  However, when I click on software updates it wants me to confirm my Apple ID and enter my credit card information.  Is there a way to update software without using my credit card?  Software updates worked fine on my old macbook pro and did not require this information.

Yes - set Payment type to None.

  • Can i update quicktime without updating itunes?

I want to update my quicktime but I don't know how to do it without updating my iTunes. When my sister updated the iTunes on her laptop, it wasn't able to recognize her iPod because the iPod was outdated. I have the same kind of iPod so I think that means it won't be compatible with an updated version of iTunes. How can Apple force me to update my iTunes to a version that will probably lose all my music and not recognize my iPod? Is there some way around this? I appreciate the help anyone can offer. Thanks so much!

That seems unusual. Not sure what is going wrong for you with that.
    Let's try another tack.
Open your Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). If ASU offer you the opportunity to just update your QuickTime (in other words, it offers you a QuickTime as well as an iTunes + QuickTime), then select only the QuickTime, and install that.
If it only offers you an iTunes + QuickTime, do no install anything just yet. First (in ASU), go "Tools > Open Downloaded Updates Folder". Delete any files currently in there. Now go back into the ASU main window, select the iTunes + QuickTime entry and go "Tools > Download only".
Once the downloads have completed, go back into the Downloaded updates folder, and doubleclick the QuickTime.msi file.
Does just QuickTime install for you? If so, launch the player. Does it launch, or are you asked for a newer version of Apple Application Support?
If the latter, go back into the Downloaded Updates folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi. After that installs, does your QuickTime Player launch properly?

  • I can't update iTunes without an upgrade of OS? Unable to connect iPhone 4??

    Okay, seriously.
I have been having issues with my phone and I finally just got it to work again and I decided now would be a good time to back it up. However on plugging it in (I updated to iOS 7 yesterday) I was instructed that I needed to upgrade to iTunes 11. When I attempted to download it, I was then told that I needed to UPGRADE to OS 10.6.8 where as I am running 10.5.8.
Does this actually mean that I can no longer connect my iPhone?

that's correct. new software = new compatibility. luckily for you, there is a solution (unlike others).
    purchase 10.6.8

It sounds like your iPhone is running a version of iOS that is older then iOS 5.
It is only after you upgrade to iOS 5 that you can upgrade the software on an iPhone without a computer.
