Can I update my IPhone 4S from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 8.3?

I never update my OS in my old iPhone 4S. There will be any problem if I update from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 8.3 directly?

DONT DO IT!!!! I have had nothing but problems with 8.3 on my 4s! my phone wont even turn on now. ive tried every "fix" on the net but nothing works. If your phone is working leave it alone!!!

You cannot. You can only upgrade to the currently supported version of the iOS which, at this time is iOS 7.0.2.

I get a message saying 'backing up'... and it completes... but then when I switch my phone off and
back on again I'm still on version 4.2.1.!!!!! I've tried three 3 to no avail.

I can only get as far as iTunes> File> Devices and then 'Transfer Purchases' is greyed out.
(nothing happens if I 'right click' on it either). Backup also greyed out...
And I'm sorry I don't know how to access the summary page of my phone!

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1. I just want to get to 4.3 or higher because a game I like now requires it. I'd be happy with iOS 4.3... but 6 will do too. When I connect my iPhone to iTunes, the Update button reads "A newer version of the iPhone software is available (v 6.0)" so one owuld assume that the Update button would get me iOS 6. But when I click on the Update button, it gives me an error message telling me that my version of iTunes (10.6) is current. I don't need to update iTunes, I need to update my iOS and the one button that does that can't tell the two apart. Help!

Thanks for the reply... but ugh, this is snow-balling out of control: Just to play a game that requires iOS 4.3, I have to upgrade iTunes, but to upgrade iTunes to 10.7.0.21, we need to upgrade the Mac OS from 10.5 to 10.6.8, which seems to cost $30. If I'm going to spend $30, I wish I could be giving the money to the game developers instead of to buying/getting 2 new OSes that I otherwise didn't need. So does anyone else have any other ways to get my iPhone up to iOS 4.3 (or higher) without all these steps and money?

On opening the app "Find my iPhone" I add my password and sign in, to be greeted with a screen that says;
"Update Find My iPhone. A new version of Find My iPhone is available from the App. Store. You must install the update to continue using the app. Update now"
On hitting the "Update now" button I'm taken to the relevant page on the App Store, to be told that I cannot update as it needs IOS8 to be able to continue and as my iPhone is only a 4 cannot install IOS8.
I'm left going around in circles. The only thing would be to delete the app, but looks like I could not re-install the version I would need. Any body have any thoughts or suggestions? (Apart from updating my phone, I have a few months left on the contract!)

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!

Downgrading the iOS is not supported, and likely has caused the problems you are experiencing.
You'll need to go elsewhere for support.

I don't follow your instructions... mine goes Settings->General->Cellular and from there it's just on/off options for Cellular Data, Enable 3G, Data Roaming, etc. Or I could go Settings->General->Profile APN Carrier Settings but when I click that it just shows as verified but no Visual Voice APN or MMS Settings. If I click More Details it goes to Signing Certificate which has a bunch of parameters for unlockit.co.nz but I am unable to change anything.
I just updated my iphone 3GS to IOS 6 and my internet (wifi and 3G), voice and text all work, but the only thing I can't do is send/receive pictures via text message. I am using At&t prepaid sim. OMG guys, i got it to work. Here's how:
1. kill everything on your iphone 4, settings, contents...
2. now uninstall itunes and install the latest one again
3. now update

I'm trying to update my iPhone 4 from iOS 5.1.1 to 6.1. When I try to do this using iTunes on my MacBook Pro (OS X v 10.5.8), with my iPhone in its cradle, clicking the "Update" button in Tunes gets a message saying "This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version." I can't get the iOS update to download.
When I try to update to the iPhone directly, I get a message saying "iOS 6.0.1 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the Internet" at the Verifying Update step. I noticed that this message refers to iOS 6.0.1, even though I want to update to 6.1. It is possible that, a few weeks ago, I may have downloaded but not installed v 6.0.1.

I tried powering down and re-starting the iPhone (as suggested at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275). This seems to have cleared the "...not connected to the Internet" problem, and iOS 6.1 is now in the process of downloading.

Here are detailed step by step instructions, for these who are not exactly super tech savvy. :-)
Adjusting you DNS settings work like a charm!
Google Public DNS IP addresses
The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
So do this on your IOS iDevice:
-Go to settings,
-Then to Wi-Fi,
-(Find the network your connected to) touch the blue arrow all the way on the right of the Network WiFi Name,
-Go down to DNS (you will most likey see something like for example: 192.168.254.254, 192.168.1.1) in that field,
-Totally delete everything in that DNS field,
-Replace the pervious address with exactly this: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
-You are all done, just exit out.
Then just retry to check for updates and all will go smooth, the problem is - I think some ISP's have got certain Apple servers address blocked, or Apple's software servers are not registered correctly to point to the right physical location your IOS iDevice is trying to get the update from, when on certain ISP's networks. For one I am on Windstream, and it appears they have some kind of problem either blocking or not routing the IP correctly.

I attempted to update my iPhone 4 from ioS 5 to ioS 6 from iTunes on my laptop using Windows 7 OS, I had downloaded the new ioS 6 and started the update on the iPhone 4 and everything was going routine until the phone had been going thought what I though was the update process when an error window opened up and said that an error had occured and the iPhone 4 could not be updated. I have never had a problem like this before and it caught me off guard and I did not note all the information in the error window, but it did not appear to indicate anything other than that I would have to abort the update and did not think it would be that big of a problem. However I could not get iTunes to recognize the iPhone 4 after this and still cannot after rebooting the laptop a few times and also trying to reset the phone a few times as well. The iPhone 4 just has the image of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an icon for iTunes. I have tried to get iTunes to recognize the iPhone, but cannot accomplish it to do anything else with the phone. It seems like the phone is in a state of where it does not have enough software loaded to do anything or I don’t know how to get it to. Any suggestions how I can get my iPhone 4 back into service. Note: iTunes still recognizes my iPad and iPods, so iTunes seems to be okay to me.
