Can I update my podcasts manually

Hello all.
I've been podcasting for a while now, I've got the recording and editing down.
However I'm still struggling with the whole XML Feed part of the process.
I started the podcast by hosting through my own .mac webspace, uploading nice AAC files.
I've decided to move to a dedicated hosting company and go just for MP3's.
Now, some of our listeners prefer the direct access to the MP3's via the host than using iTunes to receive the AAC's and I totally understand that. So I'm more than happy to loose the chapters and iTunes / iPod image and use MP3's exclusively.
My problem is that I wish to redirect my iTunes store to now pull the MP3 files from my new host, in order to not loose our subscribers or reviews.
I've done a lot of research into this and even been in touch with Apple customer support regarding the redirect which "should" solve my problems. I have tried to edit my RSS Feed which currently lives on my web space (which from what I can tell is what drives the shows which iTunes can see) and redirect this to my new feed (generated by my new host). But alas iTunes did not update, so I reverted back.
So I'm wondering if maybe i'd be better off manually editing the RSS Feed myself, each week after i've uploaded the new episode to my new host as an MP3, i'd be able to copy and paste the information for the previous show and edit the information (including the actual location of the file).
Now I'm hoping that I wont have to actually copy and paste the detail, I'm sure I've seen XML readers out there which can help me do this with greater success than doing it in word pad.
If anyone can help me with this I would so grateful. My new host provides statistics of downloads, at the moment I'm only able to see how many people are manually downloading the show from my web site and not how many subscribers I have.
Thanks in advance you good good people.
Matt

Thanks for the advise Roger.
I'm still a little unsure where to begin though.
I've been linked to that page many times now and each time I read it, I still leave scratching my head.
The whole <itunes:new-feed-url> tag for starters, do I need to wipe my entire xml file as it stands (it currently points to all of my shows) and replace it just the redirect link?
It also refers to maintaining the old feed for 48 hours. What exactly does maintain mean? Surely if the redirect is in place, wont the file have to forever stay there, as I was under the impression that my iTunes store will ALWAYS point to the originally specified xml file.
Again i'm probably wrong... but still need guidance
Thanks again
Matt

  • Can't update any podcasts

    Hi
With itunes 7.0 and 7.01I can't update any of the podcasts that I have subscribed to, and I can't update my ipod. I tried repair permisions, but they were alright.

I re-installed iTunes 7 twice and then for some reason changed the prefernces to keep all the podcasts and not copy files to the iTunes library and I can (for now at least) down load all the podcasts that I'm subscribed to.
Pity spell check doesn't know "podcast"'.

  • Can't update my Podcast Description - Help plz

Kia ora all - I sure hope I'm posting in the right section, I've also recently uploaded our podcast and am trying to get the main "podcast description" updated (the one you see when you click on one of the many possible podcasts).
I'm using "FeedForAll" but can also edit it in DreamWeaver. I just can't figure out where it's getting the old description from (when I look in the xml file I can't even find the one that is on iTunes. I've pinged it to update and it has just not correctly.
DOH! Any help would be great appreciated

Using FeedBurner can sometimes confuse things, but usually it's worth the hassle, because it so fun to see your stats (It is also great for making your XML code render nicely in a browser.) Be sure to read their terms of use before you burn your feed, though, because you want to first make sure that you are comfortable with the rights they may gain over your content.
I hand-code my feeds and use Burner, and have never run into an issue (I only have SmartFeed and BrowserFriendly activated); some people do have problems though. One thing you need to keep in mind is that signing up for FeedBurner will give your feed an additional URL, one that iTunes won't know about unless you jump through some hoops. This new URL is the one that has to be subscribed to in order to count subscribers/downloads. (That's a confusion factor right there - and it is the biggest problem you will have if you want to use your FeedBurner feed in iTunes.)
One method to fix that problem: If you have access to your server and understand the contents of the following, this is the method I use to keep my feeds under my control. Make sure you know what each of these steps mean and how to implement them before you make any real changes. This method has the added bonus of not needing you to make any changes in regards to iTunes, because they are also automatically redirected.
However, there are other ways to skin that cat, and they can be found here in the Technical Spec (look at the section on <itunes:new-feed-url>). If you are new to podcasting and iTunes, I would recommend reading through all of the Spec, so you have a basic working knowledge of how their system functions (or is supposed to function, anyway).
Otherwise, you can burn your feed and not mess around with telling iTunes about it, but the stats you get won't count your iTunes subscribers. Who you want to count is obviously up to you.
This post got sorta long and wandery, and I can't tell if it makes sense anymore, so if you want me to make any clarifications please ask.

  • Update Context File Manually

I am working on bringing up a 12.1.3 EBS VM Template instances on Amazon EC2 and one of the last steps in the MetaLink Doc ( 1205963.1) askes that I update the applications context file (see below)
How can I update these values manually since I am unable to logon to Oracle Applications and change these values?
    Thanks in advance!
The web entry point parameters in the Oracle E-Business Suite applications context file is now pointing to the private hostname. Since this host is not resolvable from the internet, you need to change the values for these variable as shown in the table below.
For eg: For a Web Entry Point URL : http://ec2-204-236-244-202.compute-1.amazonaws.com
    Autoconfig Variable
    s_login_page : http://ec2-204-236-244-202.compute-1.amazonaws.com/OA_HTML/AppsLogin

  • How can I make sure iTunes doesn't stop updating my podcasts

OK I'm subscribed to multiple podcasts, but I don't always get a chance to listen to them so some of them will stop updating and it says something like "iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you haven't listened to any episodes lately".
How can I make sure it doesn't do that? When I do get to listen to my podcasts, I would really like it if they weren't 3 weeks old.

someone made a script that fixes this. It seems to work for me. If you want it to do it automatically just make an iCal even for every 3 days or something that runs this script.

  • I can't update podcasts after updating to 11.2

Widows 7 64bit. When I click the update button, things start normally for about 2 seconds then stalls. After about 3 minutes, I get a Windows message saying iTunes has stopped responding and closes iTunes. If I have task manager open while I try to update, it's obvious there's a memory leak. Memory usage gradually climbs up to about 3GB and then Windows intervenes. I've tried deleting SyncServices and even tried renaming the "Apple Computer" folder. The folder gets recreated but I still can't update podcasts. Ideas?

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • Can't update to iOS 7.0.3 manually on iTunes & Restore my iPhone manually on iTunes?

    Hi everyone,
I tried to download iOS 7.0.3 on my iPhone 4S (it was previously Dad's, all his data, apple id etc still on there :O argh), but it failed. I looked for information online to solve this problem, and the solution was to manually update my phone on iTunes. I was going to do that, but -- I decided to restore my phone first, because I was sick of all my dad's large data, and wanted to start clean. I tried to restore my phone, but my phone asked for a restrictions passcode. I vaguely remember going on the phone (at the time it was Dad's) and poking around in the restriction settings and creating a restriction passcode. I do not know why I did it, I didn't restrict anything however. So anyways, I've forgotten my restrictions passcode and want to restore my phone another way -- I looked online, I have to manually restore the phone on iTunes. So now the things I have to do are: Restore my phone and update my phone manually on iTunes. I tried to do the update to iOS 7.0.3 first, this comes up: "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "Krishna Narayanan" An unknown error occurred. (-23) " Okay, so now I decided to restore my phone as updating isn't working and I may as well strike a goal off my hit list... BUT, when I click the "Restore iPhone..." button, it comes up with a window and on it a button Restore AND Update . I click that, and the same error message (from the unsuccessful updating, obviously) ! It's obviously the update, it's causing an error. Why can't I just restore the phone?!?! Oh well, so now I can't do either of the two.
Oh, when I press "More information" on the error message window, I tried ALL the solutions on the link
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275?locale=en_GB
(restart, removing other USB devices, uninstalling Norton anti-virus temporarily, downloading the latest iTunes - done already: 11.1.2) several times.
I tried recovery mode and DFU (Direct Firmware Upgrade) mode, those aren't working either - the same 23 error message comes up! And a site said that if recovery mode wasn't working, DFU was the second option! But I am out of options now! I really want to restore and update my phone, how to force it??

    HALF-SOLUTION!!!! (Restoring only, basically.)
    Restore the phone via iCloud.com
    1. Go to iCloud.com , and log in.
    2. If you want a back up, make sure you back it up to itunes now!
    3. Now back to iCloud.com - select the device you want. Press "Erase iPhone" (or iPad, iPod whatever).
You will go through a few steps. Skip the phone number and leave a message, as it isn't lost. Your phone will be restored. No need for plugging in!
    4. IMPORTANT: Just set it up as usual. Language, country blah. But then you'll get to a step where it says something like "This iPhone was erased with iCloud. Log in with the Apple ID you used to erase it". In this case, my Dad's. So please do that. Later on, the phone will ask for an Apple ID to be used for the phone. I put my own one as I didn't want my dads!!!! Lol....
    5. Plug into iTunes and back-up.
As for updating, I'm still on 7.0.2,,, it ain't working on my phone or itunes!! :(

  • Rhythmbox error: Can't update podcast & use Magnatune Store plugin

Hi, well recently I noticed that Rhythmbox wasn't update my podcasts, hitting the 'Update all feeds' does nothing. Also the Magnatune plugin fails to load the playlist properly.
So I try running Rhythmbox from terminal and this is what I get:
(rhythmbox:5601): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to start mDNS browsing: MDNS service is not running
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
    The line:
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
happens evey time Rhythmbox is trying to update feeds.
I checked on the Wiki to make sure that I got every libs installed (gnome-python, gstreamer-gnome-vfs, etc.) but it still doesn't work.
What is the problem? I used to be able to download feeds with Rhythmbox without and problem, until now. Is it because I need to open some ports for Rhythmbox to work? (I had firewall up and running recently.) Thanks for helping.
BTW: Rhythmbox have no problem playing internet radio. Weird.
UPDATE: I delete '~/,gnome2/rhythmbox' folder and podcast now seems to work (I can update and download a podcast). But I still get this error:
(rhythmbox:5601): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to start mDNS browsing: MDNS service is not running
    When running Rhythmbox from terminal.
What does this error means? And how do I fix it? Thanks in advance for helping.
UPDATE2: Ok, now I think I know what cause this: Magatune Store plugin. It seems that it tries to write change into '/opt' folder (which it can't) and give this error:
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/magnatune/MagnatuneSource.py", line 312, in __download_update_cb
    out.write(catalog.read("opt/magnatune/info/song_info.xml"))
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/zipfile.py", line 471, in read
    zinfo = self.getinfo(name)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/zipfile.py", line 462, in getinfo
    return self.NameToInfo[name]
    KeyError: 'opt/magnatune/info/song_info.xml'
After the plugin tried and failed to write change into '/opt' folder, the problem with update & download podcast return.
    Can anyone confirm this?

Ok for anyone interest, I post the above questions on Rhythmbox IRC channel and got some answers regarding these error messages. It appears that the first error mesage:
(rhythmbox:5601): RhythmDB-WARNING **: trying to sync properties of non-editable file
Is nothing serious and seems to have been fixed in 0.11.x. So all is fine.
Magatune Store plugin error was caused by the location of the file on the server was moved. It was already fixed, so wait for 0.11.x or if you just can't wait, moch post me this link to the fix: http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/rhythmbox/ … 92&r2=5279
Huge thanks goes to moch for taking time to answer my questions.
