Can I update my RAM in macbook pro after having it for 2 weeks?

I just got a MacBook Pro and I want to know if I can update the RAM from 4gb to 8gb after having it for 2 weeks or if I have to buy it with the 8gb RAM already installed

Assuming that you have a current model MBP, you can actually install up 16 GB RAM.  The specifications are:  204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
The two best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial. If you need instructions, go to the OWC web site and select the appropriate installation video.  You will need a #00 Phillips driver to perform the installation.
Ciao.

  • Can I add 2gb RAM to MacBook Pro 2.53?

I may be buying MacBook Pro 2.53ghz that already comes with 4GB Ram.
But in selling my MacBook 2.4ghz, the buyer doesn't need the extra 2GB that I fitted in there.
Question is, can I use the 2gb from my old Macbook to fit into MBP 2.53ghz?
Forgive my ignorance on this issue. I have no idea how the RAM slots work!

    No.
For two reasons. First, unless your old machine is one of the brand new late 2008 models, it does not use the DDR3 1067MHz memory. So the memory in that machine is different and won't work.
Second, even if your old machine was one of the brand new computers... the 2.53GHz machine already has 4GB installed. It gets there by putting a 2GB memory module in each of the 2 slots inside the computer. Meaning, there are no slots left.
Some sites on the internet are reporting that it is possible to boost the memory of the new MacBook Pro to 6GB, but the way people are getting there is to remove one of the 2GB modules and then replace it with a 4GB module. Because of a limitation in the design of the system/operating system, you can not currently pull out both the 2GB modules and replace them with 4's to get you to a max of 8GB.
    Hope that helps!

  • Can i take the ram from macbook pro and put it in mac mini?

Hey guys currently I have 8 gb of ram in my late 2011 mac macbook pro and was wondering if I could take it and put in into my new 2012 mac mini?  Thanks for the help?

Only if they use the same RAM. That means same specs. Your Mini requires faster RAM than is installed in the MBP. They are not interchangeable.

  • Can i update my "open box" macbook pro to osx mountain lion for free?

Hi, i had recently bought an "open box" macbook pro 13 in. I bought it in the time that apple has said a mac would need to be bought to qualify for a free update. Nut according to apple, my mac was bought in December of last year. Is there any way i could possibly get this download? Becuase i just bought it and i really dont know what to do. I dont think i should have to spen the fifteen dollars it is when i technically qualify for the free update. elp would be greatlly appretiated, Thanks.

Where did you buy this "open box" MacBook Pro?
Here are the specifics on the upgrade program:

  • Can I use my late 2013 Macbook pro as a display for my xbox one. I am currently sick with the flu and I do not have a tv in my room. Is there anyway to use the hdmi port on my mac and connect it to the xbox one?

I am currently sick with the flu and in my room I dont have a tv. I tried plugging my xbox one's hdmi into the hdmi port on my macbook pro late 2013 retina display. I even tried connecting the hdmi cable to a hdmi mini display mort converter and that didnt work. How can I use my Macbook as a monitor to play game on

I would guess that the HDMI port on your mac is for output only - no input, and that's what your'e attempting to do when you attach the mac to your xbox. I looked in Mactracker and it lists the HDMI port as video output for both the 13" Retina MacBook Pro and the 15" Retina MacBook Pro (your post didn't say which one you have), so looks like that is the issue..

  • How can I use pages on my new macbook pro after having used it on my old macbook pro?

I have pages installed on my old macbook pro and I just bought the newest model pro.  I thought I was transfering all of my programs using migration assistant, but after trying to start Pages on my new computer, this window asking me to buy or try iWork '09 keeps coming up.  How can i get rid of this window and start using pages normally again?  Maybe I have to run migration assistant again...

Do you have any other Apple IDs? I would just try signing in with other ID's, and checking the "Purchased" tab in the Mac App Store to see if Pages appears.

  • How can I save space on my Macbook Pro after making videos on iMovie & FCP ? Should I delete my files after?

Okay so I make a lot of videos on my mac for my Youtube Channel. I have quite a few projects and movies from Movie, but ive recently switched over to Final Cut pro and the rest is history. However im running out of space on my hard drive, FAST! to the point i cant even edit my new video. Silly me for not paying attention to the warning signs (ie slow computer duh...)
So my question is, is it smart to delete my projects, events and original videos once ive exported and uploaded the the final video? I think Im quite the hoarder when it comes to these things like im worried i might need it for something. Is there anyone who has a YT channel or makes videos regularly relate to what im saying and what are your ways on saving space and what you do once you've finished your project?????
Thanks a bunch if you can help I just need someone else's insight and opinion to help me decide what to do....

There are really two answers depending on how much money you are willing to spend, and how much editing you plan to do on the footage.
Option 1) You can rely on your Digital8 tapes for backup, and re-import them if you ever need the footage again. You can delete your event files (once you have completed all Projects). Once you have SHARED your projects in all sizes you need, the projects are in a compressed format. Once you delete the Event files, no further editing will be possible.
Option 2) Keep the Event Files on a large external hard drive, and back it up. This way, you have maximum flexibility for future editing, future new projects, and you don't have to worry about the lengthy import from a nearly obsolete tape format again. I recommend Option 2. External drives are relatively cheap these days, and your time is probably more valuable than the cost of an external drive and the cost of the re-import.

  • I am having issues with my Macbook Pro after having synced my iPhone 5.

It makes the trackpad act as a right click when tapping and the keyboard does not work properly. I found that by pressing the ctrl, alt and cmd keys together, or in combinations at the same time as pressing F1, it clears the problem for a while, then it does it again.
The first time this happened in December, it sorted itself after about 3-4 days and I just synced my iPhone 5 on Saturday and it started again and cannot seem to clear the problem.

You need to check the settings under System Preferences > Trackpad. This has nothing to do with the iPhone 5. Specifically check the first two options and click on the text below each.

Try resetting your SMC and NVRAM before attempting to install again.
    Resetting the NVRAM/PRAM
Note: This will not delete any data.
The NVRAM/PRAM stores information such as speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and recent kernel panic information (if any). You should reset the NVRAM/PRAM if you experience issues relating to these functions.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Turn on the computer by pressing the Power Button.
On the built-in keyboard, press and hold the Command (⌘), Option (⌥), P, and R keys before the gray screen appears.
Continue to hold down the keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup chime for the second time.
Release the keys on the built-in keyboard.
Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
Release the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.

Error msg " The serial no you entered is valid, but a qualifying product cannot be found on this computer" appears. Can't reinstall CS5.5 onto Macbook pro after Hard disc crashed & was changed.

It is not clear if you understand what that message is indicating.  It is telling you that you need to identify the older version of whatever CS5.5 upgrade you are installing to prove that you qualify for the upgrade.  This could be CS5, CS4, etc.

I'm in the same position, the store said they didn't know of any new release, so i bought my macbook pro to find out about mountain lion. I really hope that i'm not going to pay for the upgrade. New to apple, also last month bought my Ipad 3, really thought that Airplay would have been on my book pro, nope, waste of time.........need that update to use it. Back i the box then, get the windows 7 ultimate pro back out until then.
