Can i upgrade a power PC G5 to snow leopard

I saw an earlier post that this was not possible because snow leopard only runs on intel based macs. However, my mother-in law has an old
Dual 2 GHz Power PC G5 and she wants to use the newest iTunes to sync her music on her iPhone. It seems that the newest iTunes will only be supported on an OS like snow leopard or later. Is there any way she can upgrade her machine to an OS that will accept the new iTunes to sync her music? (sorry not really sure the best place to post this question)

Snow Leopard requires an Intel-based Mac, but she can upgrade her PowerMac G5 to Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard which will, at least for now, support the most recent version of iTunes. Apple no longer sells 10.5, so she or you will have to look to private sellers for a copy. She'll need a retail (black label) version, not the system disk from another model of Mac (grey label).

Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

I am trying to add a new linksys router ea3500 and it will not run the setup utility becasue it says my "architecture is not compatible....will upgrading to snow leaopard help? or is my computer just too old for this?

You cannot use 10.6/SL at all it equires an Intel CPU, not an IBM CPU in our G5s, but you really don't need that App/Utilty...

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard and can be upgraded directly to Mountain Lion 10.8 without going through Lion 10.7.

Thanks for the link, I wasn't aware you could burn the install file to a boot disc. I had assumed you'd have to install snow leopard, upgrade to 10.6.8, then re-download the massive install file for every machine you wanted to install lion on. You know, it's kind of ridiculous how little information there is about this considering some reports predict that lion could be released as early as tomorrow.
It would be nice to know if snow leopard is in fact mandatory so I could get my leopard to snow leopard upgrade out of way in advance. If the upgrade isn't necessary I'd obviously just wait until Lion ships and save myself the trouble. In my original post I had assumed that if something went wrong during the lion installation that you'd only be able to recover from a snow leopard time machine backup and not a leopard one; if you can only install from SL --> Lion it would make sense that you could only recover your data from an SL backup, that's why I included an extra "full backup" in my upgrade path.
It's kind of absurd that there's no clear answer to such a straightforward question as "What do I need to install Lion?". Something as simple as "Lion can only be installed from the App store." on the "How to Buy" info page for Lion would let those of us still running Leopard (and those of us who have to coordinate multiple installations) know how to prepare for Lion's release.

I can't upgrade from 10.5.8 to snow leopard?

i've got one of the old black macbooks. i've had it for about 3 years and last week used the cd's that came with it to format the computer back to factory settings which obviously put it back to quite an old os x version. i've tryed to get the new itunes and quicktime but both are saying i need at least 10.6.8? do i have to buy something for this? i've always been up to date with itunes and everything before i formatted but now don't seem to have the right operating system to be able to use them. until i get the new itunes i can't even plug my iphone into my computer!!!

If by "posted to you" you mean shipped, yes. Usually UPS or FedEx is used by Apple. Note that you may need to access the Online Store that's for your country. You either have to restore the Snow Leopard backup you made prior to installing Mavericks, or create a separate Snow Leopard partition to boot to in order to run your older PowerPC applications.
Either that, or upgrade the apps which won't run in Mavericks to newer versions that do.

It sounds more like you are trying to use an updater rather than the Snow Leopard installer DVD. You might read over the following:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
