Can I upgrade and install Windows 7 on a K7N2 Delta2

My sister has a computer which I built for her over four years ago. It has worked virtually trouble free since I gave it to her in 2006. It has XP on it and only two 512 memory sticks. She likes the computer but would like to have it updated to use Windows 7 if possible. I am not sure if Windows 7 would run on it. I would need to install more memory, probably three 1 G sticks. I would also install a new larger Hard Drive, probably a SATA, in place of the smaller IDE it currently has.
Does anyone know if that would work and if so, suggestions would be appreciated. I could also just assemble a new computer for her, if updating the old one is not feasible. Opinion please!

You might just want to start looking at a complete AM3 upgrade. Example would be an inexpensive setup starting with Sempron 140 CPU ($33, > newegg <) and 2x2 GB RAM ($54, > CT2KIT25664BA1339 <, newegg) would be worth consideration. Components used all depends on how much the budget for such a build would be, and then whatever MB you might choose from about $55 on up. With the current price of parts needed for AM3 system it's the best way to go. A new PSU would probably be needed, Corsair CX, TX, VX brand & models in the area of $50-$90 depending on how much power would be needed. Feel free to ask any questions along those lines.

  • Using Windows 7 on an iMac ...Can I wipe and Install Windows 7 only ?

i have installed win 7 evaluation copy (which expires in march i think) using bootcamp ..... works just fine except for one thing:
even though i have selected startup disk as windows in system prefs, it will often start in mac instead (and this is after i have shut down previously in windows)it's like it "forgets" it's supposed to start always in windows
    it's getting frustrating...what am i doing wrong ??
second...has anyone successfully wiped their hard disk and installed windows 7 on an imac without osx or bootcamp being present
i love the imac hardware but need to do some work in windows for a while

Start in Windows and select the default boot drive.
Yes, there are 3-4 threads recently asking about "Windows only."

    Hi LamboMong,
    just try this:
    http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

  • How can I unistall Vista from Satellite L300-11Q and install Windows XP

    Hello!
Help please: How can I unistall Windows Vista from my notebook and install Windows XP?
Should I do something with discs and BIOS before it, or I can just format disc C and then install XP from CD-disc?
How can I make a recovery disc before uninstalling Vista?
    Thank you very much!

    Greetings,
I had such a hard time finding exact information on downgrading Vista to XP recently, I'm posting this on several different threads in hopes I can save others some time and effort; sorry for cross-posting.
When installing XP over Vista, instead of worrying over getting Intel Matrix Storage, streamlining a CD with it and SPII, blah, blah, blah, why not just go into BIOS at startup and switch the SATA setting under Advanced Disk Management from (whatever the default is) to "Compliant"? This allows the XP install to see the drive as an IDE, (actually ATA), and POOF! Your problems are solved with a LOT less hassle. (The XP install disk DOES have to have Service Pack II on it.)
I just did this over the past weekend, and it worked great. (Actually I didn't have much of a choice, as the processor on my Toshiba is an AMD, not Intel, so all the downloading and configuring CD's with matrx storage in the world wouldn't have done me a bit of good; the AMD processor "chipset" is contained within the graphics driver setup.)
Save yourselves a lot of time and headaches and forget the whole matrix storage thing. As far as I can tell it would also work with an Intel processor, but since you can "turn SATA off", IMHO it's a huge waste of time mucking around with the matrix storage. If you want full SATA configuration after all's said and done, you can always go back in and turn the BIOS switch back to SATA after you have XP up and running and have just used the executable to install the matrix drivers.

hi, recently i bought macbook pro with retina display and installed windows 8 professional original software also. but in windows 8 track pad/ TOUCHPAD is not working properly. can you help me with providing drivers for trackpad to work on windows 8 professional .

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? If you did, did you use the Boot Camp Control icon to set up the trackpad how you want it?

  • I have a HP Touchsmart Laptop. Can I uninstall Windows 7 and install windows 8.1 ?

I want to uninstall windows 7 and install windows 8.1 on my hp touchsmart. Will the touch features work on teh new installation?

    Hi,
Yes and no. Why ? because it will work with the right driver, won't work if can't find the right driver. How can we know you can get a right driver when we don't know your computer. HP has dozens if not hundreds of models/products called Touchsmart.
    Regards.

  • Can I use bootcamp and install Windows 7 on an external Thunderbolt drive

    Hello,
I want to know if it is possible to install windows 7 on a thunderbolt external hard. I have a limited space on my harddrive and want to have windows 7 operate and store data on the thunderbolt drive.
Anyone know if this works or if its possible.
    Thanks

i use a thunderbolt ssd for my boot disc and it appears that bootcamp appears to start ok. in disk utility i can partition the drive successfully so i would be really interested if this would work. personally i cant see any problems.
are you thinking about formating the drive and installing windows without bootcamp? that will definately not work!
however with bootcamp you stand a very good chance of achieving your wish. please keep us posted if you decide to do this.
i know of one way that can absolutely do it, but it means installing osx on your ext. first. i have vmware on my ext. running win 8.1 works seamlessly.
i run bootcamp from my internal hdd with win 7.

  • I want to triple boot Have Snow Leopard and XP on separate drives and I want Windows 7 on another drive, can it be done by temporarily removing the xp drive and installing windows 7 on another internal drive?

I want to triple boot my Mac Pro I have Snow Leopard and XP on separate drives (osx on drive 1, xp on drive 2) and I want Windows 7 on another drive (drive 4, drive 3 is used by osx for storage), can it be done by temporarily removing the xp drive and installing windows 7 on drive 4?
I realise bootcamp only allows 2 operating systems and refit could change the size of my current xp drive to accomodate W7, that is not an option here for various reasons one being the drive is pretty much at capacity with only about 30gig free (I work with video so that free space fluctautes quite a bit). I have a brand new drive 4 with 1TB set aside ready for W7 but I'm unsure how to go ahead?
any help or advice would be really appreciated, thanks

Boot Camp is used to support Windows on the same drive.
You can have a different OS on every drive.
You could have Windows 7, Vista, and XP all on one drive if you so choose.
I recommend not putting Windows and OS X on the same dirve when talking about Mac Pro - unless you just need something small and lite.
Remove all your other drives while you install Windows 7.
You could even relocate XP - if you need it even - or recover the hard drive space.
You should always keep 30% free for Mac OS; same for data/media drives.
Considering 1.5TB WD Black $110.... and you want OS X to be on a fast high performance drive as well.

CS will not upgrade to CS5. Historically, only CS2-CS4 ever qualified for upgrade to CS5. Those versions are all long superseded and no longer available from Adobe.
Adobe currently only sells CS6 (for outright purchase) and the Cloud (by subscription only). Cloud members have access to both CS6 and CC.
The only way to upgrade to CS6 is from CS5. Adobe no longer sells CS5. Unless you purchase the full version of CS5 from elsewhere (I don't see any point in that in this case) you would not be able to upgrade to CS6. You'd have to buy the full version of CS6. Or subscribe to one of the Cloud plans. PS+LR is an excellent deal if you use those products.

I CAN'T DOWLOAD AND INSTAL MY ADOBE CS5.5

I have tried to install AE CS5.5 over the AE CS 5.0 and keep getting an Installation error.  The error wants me to reboot apparently because it thinks that is required to proceed.  Only I have rebooted 3 times and still I get the error.  Then it wants me to install Adobe ASA and to do that I am supposed to have AIR installed.  I have upgraded to AIR 3.5 and still nothing.  I am running Windows 7 Ultimate. What more do you need to know?  I have submitted the error package and there is no reply. There is nothing wrong with my AE CDs as they have installed before but the CS 5.5 is acting wonky.  Help is reall;y requested

  • The Safari on my iMac is no longer supported, how can I download   and install a new version?

The Safari browser on my iMac OSX 10.6.8 is no longer supported. How can I download and install a supported Safari browser?

If you’re running Safari 5.1.10, you need to either upgrade the computer’s OS or switch browsers.
To upgrade, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • How to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch

how to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch

There's not much sense in purchasing a Mac to run only Windows on it.  Keep in mind that drivers for Windows are a secondary concern for Apple.  While Windows will typicall run fine, things like power managment are not optimized under Windows (you'll get less time on battery while running Windows).  You will also not be able to install firmware updates.  Firmware updates might be necessary whether you run Windows or OS X as they are updates to the code in your hardware and are not OS-specific.  You must be running OS X in order to install a firmware update.  You can do this even if you boot off of an external drive with OS X installed on it.  At the very least, you should keep just a small partition for OS X on your internal drive.

  • Is there a way to leave Windows 7 OS and install Windows 8 additionaly

Is there a way to leave Windows 7 OS and install Windows 8 additionaly with Bootcamp 5, means to have a triple boot option or dual boot option where the windows partition can choose to start windows 7 or windows 8 ?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The problem you have is that Boot Camp doesn't allow you to create more than two volumes on the hard drive: one for OS X and another one for Windows, so you can't create another one for another Windows. If you want to test Windows 8, I recommend you to download a virtual machine application like VirtualBox, create a virtual machine and install Windows 8 there
