Can I upgrade from CS3 Design Premium to CS6 Design Standard?

I'm looking to upgrade my CS3 (and may need to as I'm upgrading my Mac OS X and not sure about compatibilty)... of course I know I can upgrade like for like, i.e. go from CS3 Design Premium to CS6 Design and Web Premium but I don't really need Dreamweaver and Flash so just wondering if I can upgrade to CS6 Design Standard?
Also, as I'm still relatively new to this arena and have never upgraded before... how does it work? Do I need to keep my CS3 software (i.e. disks) as well as the new software/disks? i.e. if for whatever reason I may need to re-install down the line...or can I get rid of the CS3 once I get the CS6?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can do that. But you only have a few more weeks. You may want to look into Creative Cloud instead. You'll need the CS3 serial number to upgrade to CS6 but the CS3 apps do not necessarily need to be installed.

  • Can you upgrade from CS5 Production Premium to CS6 Master Collection?

I have the student edition of CS5 Production Premium suite and Adobe Acrobat X Pro for Windows and I was wondering if there was a way to upgrade it to the CS6 Master Collection. If there is, how much would it cost? I would like to get InDesign and Dreamweaver. Or would it be easier to try to buy the two programs separate?

I saw that before, but I wasn't sure if it was an upgrade from the CS5 Master Collection or just anything CS5. Shouldn't the upgrade price vary depending on what collection of programs you have? Like shouldn't upgrading from the CS5 Master Collection be cheaper than upgrading from CS5 Production Premium? Will it change if I try to order it?

  • Can't find this info anywhere... Can I upgrade from CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5?

After using Adobe products for years and years, it's not only my opinion but the opinion of many of my colleagues that CS upgrades are only worth it about every other upgrade. That might be a subjective opinion, but it does lead in to my question: Does anyone know if I can upgrade from CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5?? I can't find that info anywhere on Adobe's site.
    Thanks!

Does anyone know if I can upgrade from CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5??
The Adobe Buying Guide clearly states that the answer for CS3 to CS5.5 is yes.
Design Premium example (other Creative Suites are the same):
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/design/buying-guide.displayTab2.html
You won't be able to buy CS5 from Adobe (not that you'd have any reason to).

  • Where can I download an upgrade from CS5 Design Premium to CS6 Design Premium?

I am frustrated with the site - cannot find a way to upgrade to CS6 from CS5.

    Hi there,
You can download Design & Web Premium CS6 from the below link:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=designweb_premium&loc=en_us
Once you download and install, you need to use CS6 serial number in the first screen and click next. On the next screen when it says "Previous qualifying version not available", please select CS5 Design Premium from the drop down list and enter your CS5 serial number and click next. It should then activate without any issues.

  • Can I upgrade from CS3 directly to CS5 or 5.5?

Or do I need to buy CS4?

Not sure which product you have (suite or standalone), but they all have different upgrade prices depending on which version you already own. You can upgrade directly from CS3 to CS5. It'll be more expensive than the CS4 to CS5 upgrade, but cheaper than upgrading to CS4 first, then to CS5. The last option would assume that you can even find a copy of CS4 to purchase.

  • Can't upgrade from prod prem CS4 to CS6

    Hey guys
the other day I was on adobe trying to get a price on upgrading to CS6 prod premium-- I had a disappointing online convo with adobe saying that my only 2 options are now because CS4 is technically 3 versions back-- were to buy the full version of CS6 for $1899 (instead of upgrading for about $750 as that is no longer an option) or go to the creative cloud, where for the rest of your life if you want to use adobe products you must pay a monthly fee-- NO WAY
When was this made public that we can't upgrade anymore from 3 versions back? How is this good business?  Who wants this creative cloud? Who wants to pay a monthly fee for using this software? Am I the only one that thinks this business practice is unnerving? Where is Adobe getting the data that says people want to be roped into a monthly fee indefinitely?
    Please help me understand
    Thanks
    Tony

Well, within certain version parameters, upgrading is still viable. However, the limitation was imposed on how many versions back still qualify.
Adobe is not the first software company to do this. Corel did it many years ago with CorelDraw. I have version 3, and skipped version 4, as I was using Illustrator for similar work much more often. Then, CorelDraw 5 was released, with some useful features. I found that I had to first upgrade to version 4 (near the full-paid price), and then to version 5, again at near the full-paid price. I mulled it over, and decided that Illustrator filled my bill well enough. At about that time, I upgraded my AI 3.x to 5.x, skipping a complete version, with no issues (old Adobe upgrade policy), and I think that it only cost me about US 80, where upgrading CorelDraw to the coincidental version would have cost about US $ 400, or about the same as buying the later version outright.
When PrPro CS 3 came out, I hesitated, waiting for Adobe to smooth out some kinks. Then PrPro CS 4 was introduced, with updates coming in a fairly constant stream. I waited, reading the forums closely. Then, with the introduction of PrPro CS 5, the new policy was announced, though that did change a bit. I went ahead, and went with CS 5, then upgraded to CS 5.5, to get the free upgrade, as soon as CS 6 was launched (small window of opportunity there). For me, CS 6 might be the end of the line, as I have retired, and am now only using the program(s) for personal use, plus working on issues for the forum.
For me, the CCloud does not really offer much of an inducement, but for many others, it is just what they need - the X-platform usage is a big plus for many, but being a PC-only guy, does nothing for me.
Am I the happiest patron? No, though at one time I almost never missed any release, or DOT release, for all of my Adobe programs. Now, well not so much, so I need to stay abreast of changes in upgrade policies. Like I mentioned, CS 6 will likely be the end-of-the-line, but only because I cannot amortize the cost of software upgrades, as I could before - not because I am dissatisfied with Adobe or their products. Software upgrade policies are, what they are, and I have just learned to live with those.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

Vielen dank vorab

  • Multiple problems installing upgrade from CS5 Design Prem. to CS6 Design Prem.

I had started a thread a few days ago regarding problems that I was having while installing my upgrade from CS5 Design Premium to CS6 Design Premium.  Everything seemed to install fine with the exception of Acrobat X Pro.  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4716847#4716847
I thought that I had resolved the issue through tech support, but apparently not.  First of all, they had me install the trial version of Acrobat X which actually let me install with no errors. A couple of days passed and Acrobat asked if I would like to continue my trial or enter a serial number. I tried to use my serial that came with my upgrade but it rejected it, so I opted to continue the trial.  Then earlier today as I was working in InDesign, upon launching I got a script error message.
    Error in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS6\Flash\Flash-12.0.jsx
    Line 153: if( app.name = = flashAppname && (module.name = = 'DefaultScript' II module.name = = 'Flash'))
    Cannot open resource file.
After clicking OK it seemed to open InDesign fine and I was able to open files and go about working. While working I noticed that I had no effects in the dropdown menu under 'Object'. Tried the shortcut for them and nothing happened.  I have yet to try to open any files containing effects (drop shadow or something) but am guessing that they will not work. My next course of action was to try to Uninstall and Re-Install. I removed CS6 and Acrobat X Pro from my computer and ran the Creative Suite Cleaner program. Then instead of installing the upgrade from the DVD, I decided to download the program from the Adobe LWS and give that a go thinking that maybe the download files are more up-to-date than the DVD that I recieved.  Now it seems I am back to square one with the same problems (InDesign missing 'Effects' and who knows what else, and Acrobat X Pro failed to install), but this time I have diffent errors on the "error summary file" that shows up as a link in the "Installation Complete" dialog box. Sorry for being windy, but I really need to get this resolved. Thanks for any and all input.  PC is Dell Precision T3500 running Windows 7 and is current on it's updates.

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5 Design Premium??

Hi there, I work for a small print company and we are in the process of upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5 Design premium, the company has purchased a new Mac (runs Lion 10.7), our old Mac is on 10.4 and it has run CS2 upgrade, and a few years back we installed the CS3 upgrade. We have not installed any of the creative suite onto the new Mac and I am wondering can I just buy the CS5.5 upgrade and use the CS3 upgrade serial number when installing? Will this be enough?
Or do I need to go back to the initial Creative Suite that the company brought from scratch and enter that serial number?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Just have the serial number from CS3 handy when you install.
More good news for you. Starting today if you buy CS5.5 you get a free upgrade to CS6 when it ships.

  • Want to upgrade from CS3 [Design Premium] to CS5

    Hi,
Want to upgrade from Design Premium CS3 to CS5 and saw there's a difference in price from upgrading from CS4 & CS3. Dumb question: If I bought the CS5 upgrade, would I be able to install the suite or would it ask for the previous CS4 version? If it only asks for CS3 I would really save some $$$$$$.
    Can you help,
    Ellen

What do you mean, there is a difference between upgrading from CS3 and CS4? An upgrade is an upgrade, there is only one price for an upgrade.
In CS4 (and CS5) Adobe introduced tiered upgrade pricing for suites only.
    http://www.adobe.us/products/photoshop/photoshop/faq/
What is Adobe's tiered upgrade pricing policy?
Adobe's tiered upgrade pricing policy offers customers who upgrade at every release a lower upgrade price relative to customers who upgrade less frequently. This means that customers upgrading to Creative Suite 5 from Creative Suite 4 will pay a lower upgrade price compared to customers upgrading from an earlier version of Creative Suite.
Why does Adobe offer tiered upgrade pricing?
Customers who upgrade regularly have long requested better pricing compared to those who upgrade infrequently. Adobe introduced tiered upgrade pricing in 2008, with the launch of Creative Suite 4, to reward these customers.
Does tiered pricing also apply to individual Creative Suite components?
No. The tiered upgrade policy applies only to editions of Adobe Creative Suite and not to upgrades to individual components, such as After Effects, Flash Professional, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and so on. Customers can upgrade to the CS5 version of individual CS components from up to three versions back. The only exception is Adobe Premiere Pro; customers can upgrade to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 from any earlier version of Adobe Premiere.
